AIBU to think most people know who Frida Kahlo is?

Well I do (& admire her no end!)... However I only heard about her in my late 20s, kind of 'stumbled over her' as it were, then saw signs of her everywhere, once I was looking.

So, although I think she's famous and her work very important, I don't know if people will have her embedded in their cultural consciousness...

I would recognise her but have to double check her surname. There was a film about her a few years ago iirc.

She's that Mexican artist isn't she? There was a movie about her a few years ago, although I confess I haven't seen the movie and had never heard of her before that.

i have heard of her and know a bit about her - that she identified as Mexican although she was actually German - was married to Diego Rivera? -did a lot of artwork that involved an empty dress - ummmmmm (dredges memory)...blank....
but no i would not recognise her from that pic.

She's great. As was Rivera.... it's worth googling their work. You will recognise the style if not the names.

Kahlo was a fiery tempered, extravagant woman, a martyr to her health and Marxism.

"Most" people - seriously?

I know who she is but I was lucky enough to have a reasonable education, went to University and mostly mix with well educated people. She's hardly a household name.
