If you saw a picture of Frida Kahlo, you would recognise this person? Or AIBU?

I know the name, would recognise self portraits. Prob know the photo as well, I think tho hard to be sure having seen name, then pic iykwim.

I know her name and had an idea of what her art was like, but only from reading a Jacqueline Wilson book as a teen.

Yabu! I know who she is as I am interested in art, but most of my friends couldn't give two hoots about it. You should not assume people know/should know everything you do and be interested in every thing you are.

But I am old. I 'gave' her to an 18 yr old friend as part of that 'Fill Facebook With Art' thing that was on recently and he had no idea who she was. But he does now and he likes her too :)

and why does it bother you that some don't? to you and I she is an icon but to others she is just a face and a name.

Yes I know who she is and, recognise her picture. Madonna used to bang on about her.

Just interested, that's all. It arose as part of a conversation on inspiring women/international womens day. I said I thought she was inspiring, only 2 of the group had heard of her. Because of the film perhaps I thought she was more recognisable than she really is.

My kids have her self portrait on their bedroom wall. (3 and 6 yrs) so we all know who she is !

Yes, saw exhibition of her work at Tate Mod a few years back. Have also seen film about her life with Selma Hyek. I love the eyebrows - they are striking and brave, like her and her work.
