I live in a house converted into flats. I don't know the lady upstairs that well but well enough to have conversations with if we bump into eachother.

The door to her flat is right opposite my door. For the last 2 days I haven't heard her come in or go out, and her keys have been in her door. WIBU to go up and check nobody's dead in there?! Or is that overstepping boundaries?

so the door is still ajar or the key is on the outside of the door. FGS why wait before thinking something may be wrong?

The OP has possibly been scared off by the "are you stupid?" comments.

Or she called the police, and they've advised her not to comment on social media (as that could out her).

How come the neighbour lives upstairs but the OP has said that her neighbours door is right opposite her own door? That doesn't make sense to me

OP and neighbour both live upstairs. Neighbours door is opposite hers.

I was going to say YABU, as I used to live in an upstairs flat and wouldn't have liked people wandering into my flat willy nilly (even though I did know them very well!)
In the circumstance you describe though, then yes. I would want you to intervene. Her keys have been in her door for the past two days and you've heard no comings or goings?!

Kerplunger - I don't understand either. OP says "I don't know the lady upstairs that well." but then says that the door to her flat is opposite hers. Later on OP describes how there are only three flats and the other is downstairs. So i am confused about reference to knowing the lady upstairs.

It us possible for the doors to be opposite if it's a conversion. I've lived places where my front door opens direct onto stairs so technically mu entrance is the same level as my downstairs neighbours, even though my actual flat is above. Depending on the config it's possible for what the OP is stating to be true.

My last flat was in a conversion - the door to our upstairs flat was next to the door for the downstairs flat and lead straight onto the stairs.

Maybe she called her the lady upstairs to differentiate her from the lady downstairs?
Also, think about the flats in men behaving badly. They were in a convertion and the upstairs flat had a door down stairs.

Also given that they are clearly bending the fabric of the universe in this flat anything is possible.
