To let myself into upstairs flat?

MrsDrRanj · 20/02/2014 12:26

I live in a house converted into flats. I don't know the lady upstairs that well but well enough to have conversations with if we bump into eachother.

The door to her flat is right opposite my door. For the last 2 days I haven't heard her come in or go out, and her keys have been in her door. WIBU to go up and check nobody's dead in there?! Or is that overstepping boundaries?

Hope everything is OK.

RedFocus · 20/02/2014 22:29

I'm forever doing that and it drives my husband mad as he gets in from work and can let himself in with my keys, which also have my car keys attached! Oops Blush

TheCricketWidow · 20/02/2014 22:33

Oh god no update yet? Hope all is well.

Caitlin17 · 20/02/2014 22:50

If you mean her keys are in the lock on the outside of the door I'm astonished you didn't knock on her door as soon as you noticed the keys were still in the lock. I've done that and a passing neighbour told me.

mummyto2boysandagirl3 · 20/02/2014 23:00

Everything ok op?

CuttingOutTheCrap · 20/02/2014 23:08

Hope everything's ok

steppemum · 20/02/2014 23:12

If you can't make her hear, call the police.
I did this once with my upstairs neighbour, one of her friends knocked on my door, because upstairs lady had phoned her and asked her to pick her up a loaf of bread and now she wasn't answering her door.

After talking to her about ti, I called the police. They did not mind at all, were very nice, and kicked the door in. The lady had had a stroke, and the police thanked me for phoning them, many people are reluctant to call, and then they find a dead body Sad

RussianBlu · 20/02/2014 23:13

How odd that you would post this and then not give an update after so long. I had a similar thing with a neighbour once. I called the police but bizarrely they decided not to come round and see what was happening.

Cataline · 20/02/2014 23:15

OP where are you?

notapizzaeater · 20/02/2014 23:16

I've had someone knock on my door nice to tell me keys in lock. Hope it's just innocent and she's right them and not left the flat for a couple of days.

starfishmummy · 20/02/2014 23:17

Well Intent think she will have had a stroke (or collapsed) and then gone to ou the keys in the door!

Either she has dashed out and forgotten them (and ks away from home) or done a moonlight flit and left them there for the landlord

jellybaby25 · 20/02/2014 23:19

What happened???

AgentProvocateur · 20/02/2014 23:20

It's truly astounding that people need to ask an Internet forum about things that, to most people, are basic decency. I hope your neighbour is OK, OP.

Caitlin17 · 20/02/2014 23:22

Agent I agree. If keys were left in the lock what is there even to think about? You knock on the door to tell the person.

MamaPingu · 20/02/2014 23:22

I've done this a few times for a few hours but never for days!
Hopefully she's on holiday and made a daft mistake with the keys!

WorraLiberty · 20/02/2014 23:23

It's basic common sense Agent, that you don't sit there for two days, staring at your neighbour's keys left in their front door...especially after you've already knocked to tell them and got no answer!

RussianBlu · 20/02/2014 23:25

She let herself in and realised that her favourite program was about to start, rushed in and forgot all about the keys. She has been too busy watching tv, eating cakes and sleeping to think about going out again and therefore hasn't thought to look for the keys or perhaps she is searching the flat for the keys and wearing headphones and is getting really irritated that she still cant go out.

I think it would be more worrying if the door was wide open without any keys in the lock.

Lets just hope all is ok.

FoxesRevenge · 20/02/2014 23:30

Perhaps the OP has gone into the flat and met the same fate as the resident

Pipbin · 20/02/2014 23:32

There will be a post in a few days from someone saying that the people in the two flats upstairs have vanished and should they go into the flat with the keys in the door to investigate?

Is she OK OP?

BiscuitMillionaire · 21/02/2014 00:24

All the people saying they're astonished she hadn't knocked on the door - read the effing thread! OP says in post further down that she has already knocked on the door and had no answer, previously. She was then going to ring the doorbell downstairs.
