Piercing babies ears

So.... AIBU to think that piercing young children's ears and esp babies is on some level abusive as it's not got any medical reason and only the vanity of the parents?

I'm not saying it's up there with beating etc. But to purposefully put your child through pain, for a cosmetic reason isn't right surely?

Something came up on fb. I thought yes, piercing their ears is outrageous (and somewhat chavtastic IMO), went tobthe comments and loads of people were saying they had their kids ears pierced at 6 weeks etc and they saw nothing wrong with it which left me [shocked]

But yes, I'm pregnant, in bed is DS3 and because I'm practically an angel I've told DP to go out as his friends are around (they all live away). So pretty bored!

However there are some annoying people on this thread who think that some topics are too often discussed/beneath them which is why they give sarcastic in-joke cliquey replies. Not everyone spends their life on here and sometimes things get repeated.
