Piercing babies ears

fifi669 · 31/12/2013 21:05

So.... AIBU to think that piercing young children's ears and esp babies is on some level abusive as it's not got any medical reason and only the vanity of the parents?

I'm not saying it's up there with beating etc. But to purposefully put your child through pain, for a cosmetic reason isn't right surely?

Owlbegoing I'm actually lol at how stupid that's sounds!!2 totally different things woman die getting that done has anyone ever died from getting ears pierced?? Like I've said lots of times now it's one of those subjects your either for or against it and I'm for it

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 18:31

That's a stupid stupid comment regarding makeup and heels lol!! Apart from my dd ears pierced she's a normal child nothing alien about her lol!!!

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 01/01/2014 18:46

did it upset your dd to have them pierced weelady? I mean, did she cry? I struggled watching them have their jabs, personally.

owlbegoing · 01/01/2014 18:56

You may think it sounds stupid Weelady but I think your attempt at justification for willfully harming your child is stupid. As I said before just because it's happened for years is no excuse!

TheBigJessie · 01/01/2014 19:02

Both Female Genital Mutilation and Infant Cosmetic Ear Piercing are procedures carried out on children's bodies, without consent.

Female Genital Mutilation is manifestly more serious, yes. It causes lifelong suffering and can cause death. I will not argue that they are the same.

But infant ear piercing is still an act which upholds the parent's cosmetic choices over the child's right to bodily integrity. Which is one of the sources of objection.

"It doesn't cause death" isn't that much of an argument to me. Besides, if I want to spend all night on google, I'd probably find a case of death caused by infant ear piercing.

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:04

I think it's stupid comparing ear piercing which Christ knows how many people in the world have done to mutilation!!!

As I've said and I'll say it again I can see every single one of your reasons why it shouldn't be done and once again I'll say again it's each to there own! I've gave you my reasons why I got it done, it was my choice as she is my daughter but because it's not to your liking i get shot down in flames!!

harriet247 · 01/01/2014 19:05

Its awful, my dd is beautiful as she is...

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:06

Yeah she cried for a minute or so which I didn't like but after a cuddle she was fine!

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 01/01/2014 19:06

because it is abusive to some extent and people just aren't in favour of that, weelady.

harriet247 · 01/01/2014 19:07

and as long as I live I will never cause her to be in pain unnecessarily

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 01/01/2014 19:07

and you willingly did that to her for no other reason than 'she's my daughter and it's my choice'?

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:07

And my dd hasn't changed! She's not got 3 heads now Grin

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:10

Does anyone actually read what I'm writing!!! Lol

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 01/01/2014 19:10

I also find it decidedly creepy and controlling. 'It's my baby. I'll do what I like.' Eeeew. They're not fucking dress-up dolls.

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:12

Now now language!!!

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 01/01/2014 19:12

I'm sure your dd is beautiful, weelady, with or without ear piercings.

TheBigJessie · 01/01/2014 19:14

I don't think seeing and understanding others' belief in bodily integrity is compatible with "to each their own". Human rights are universal. That's how they work. They can't be suspended for a couple of individuals. 'Tis entire point of word "universal".

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 01/01/2014 19:14

You must be new Wee we can say all sorts of swear words on here.

Doctorbrownbear · 01/01/2014 19:17

A chance for people to let out their bitchy sides OP I think. FWIW I think it is unnecessary and a bit cruel. I certainly would not do it to my baby and wonder why anyone would do it to theirs. On mumsnet there is an army of women who leap defensively on topics such as this and benefits scrounging and will not have a discussion (funny as I thought that this was called 'talk' not attack!).

owlbegoing · 01/01/2014 19:18

Maybe it's because your reasoning makes no sense! Why not go the while hog and have got her nose pierced while you were there?!

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:19

If it was sooooo bad it would have been banned from doing in the local high street!

Swearing is just very chav Wink

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:21

It makes no sense too you!

I've put my side over you don't agree, it would be a funny old world if we were all the same Smile

MorrisZapp · 01/01/2014 19:24

Sorry, what was your side again? All I've seen you say is each to their own and you did it to your dd.

Have you got any reasons behind your actions?

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 01/01/2014 19:24

I think many people believe it should be banned. What's done is done though Sad.

Weelady77 · 01/01/2014 19:28

Morriszapp scroll down and read why I done it I'm sick of writing it lol
