To just invite a bunch of random MNers to my wedding to boost up numbers?

I'm only half joking :o
DP and I are (hopefully) getting married next autumn, and we'd love (me especially, DP isn't as bothered as me) a big wedding with loads of friends and family. But neither of us have many friends, probably about 10 between us! It probably sounds daft but I want to be surrounded by loads of family and friends and have a big party in the evening. But we just don't have the friends!

Okay I'm not really expecting a bunch of MNers to rock up for a wedding party, I was just having a bit of a self-pitying grumble.

I know getting married isn't just an excuse for a party but I want a big party with loads of people :(

AIBU?

I don't have a partner either. OP your DP is going to have to make some male friends very quickly. We need a contingent of single men Wink

TiggyD · 27/11/2013 18:39

I don't have a partner to go with. Maybe I could borrow a Mumsnet spinster? No cat ladies please!

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 27/11/2013 18:42

MrZing is going to look after the kids so I'd love for you to be my "date" Grin

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 27/11/2013 18:42

Really isn't that far from me - certainly for such a stunning vebue ans beautiful bride I'd be delighted to help boost numbers.

Maybe you could hold wedding guest auditions for the next six months or so and build up a suitable guest list?!

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/11/2013 23:04

Of course, we'll all expect cake! What kind of wedding cake are you planning?

SignoraStronza · 28/11/2013 11:00

Ooh, I'm only half an hour away. If you need a motorcycle outrider/bouncer for the event I could bring dh?!

ZombiesAteMyCunnyFunt · 28/11/2013 13:13

Crikey. Looks like this is going ahead then :o as for a save the date, we don't have a date yet, so just keep the whole of October and November next year free :o

DPs work colleagues will be coming, asfaik they all have wives or partners but DP tells me none of them are very faithful Hmm

Signora yes I need a bouncer to stop all these loons women coming in who will be wearing white dresses!

Cake will be a tier of chocolate, a tier of vanilla and a tier of lemon, there will also be a seperate fruitcake for anyone that would like fruitcake although judging by this thread there'll be enough fruitcake with just the guests :o

BigWelly should there be a list of roles? I see there are already a few people going for "inappropriate white dress wearer". I'd like to audition for the part of "drunk uncle".

Manchesterhistorygirl · 28/11/2013 14:49

Count me in! We could do with a nice weekend away in the autumn!

I also really love cake, but not fruit. Leave that for the nuts. Wink

liquidstate · 28/11/2013 14:58

Count me in! I met a lovely lady on a wedding chat forum and first met her on her wedding day Grin

She had several people from the forum come to the evening do. She remains a very close friend and I felt blessed to be part of her day after the support she gave me during the planning process.

LastOneDancing · 28/11/2013 15:51

Oooh good cake choices!

Bagsy lemon.

ZombiesAteMyCunnyFunt · 28/11/2013 16:16

Sorry Ginocchio, the part of 'drunken uncle' has already been filled. How about 'drunken cousins uncles brothers friend'?

OP posts:
TimeAndRubberBulletsInSpace · 28/11/2013 16:25

Or drunk uncle wearing an inappropriate white dress?

DoctorTwo · 28/11/2013 17:01

It's only an hour up the road from me. I'd love to come, not been to a wedding in years.

Ginocchio · 28/11/2013 17:13

Zombie Done.

MushroomSoup · 28/11/2013 17:56

Ooh! Me and my friend will come. In very high heels. And drink gin. And start the dancing off!

ZombiesAteMyCunnyFunt · 28/11/2013 18:13

Aren't new DH and I meant to start off the dancing? :o

By the way I hope everybody likes discos and karaoke!

Bettercallsaul1 · 28/11/2013 18:21

OP, that sounds like a superb cake! I wouldn't know which tier to try!

GimmeDaBoobehz · 28/11/2013 18:27

YANBU.

I don't know where you are but I'll turn up. If you want my partner and little baby there too, that's all well and good too.

I'd love a big ish do, perhaps 100ish people in the reception, maybe 40-50 at the church.

We both have a few friends but not very close friends, most are pretty immature as we are one of few who have children out of our social group, hopefully that will change soon.
