To just invite a bunch of random MNers to my wedding to boost up numbers?

I'm only half joking :o
DP and I are (hopefully) getting married next autumn, and we'd love (me especially, DP isn't as bothered as me) a big wedding with loads of friends and family. But neither of us have many friends, probably about 10 between us! It probably sounds daft but I want to be surrounded by loads of family and friends and have a big party in the evening. But we just don't have the friends!

Okay I'm not really expecting a bunch of MNers to rock up for a wedding party, I was just having a bit of a self-pitying grumble.

I know getting married isn't just an excuse for a party but I want a big party with loads of people :(

AIBU?

I've just bought a jaunty hat and so I'll come and wear my jaunty hat and try to look inconspicuous

stubbornstains · 27/11/2013 10:43

I think your DH will match the colour scheme, rather than clash (trust me, colours are my Thang). So no worries, you won't need to replace him Grin.

That venue looks fabulous, but I'm afraid I'm part of the Disgruntled Cornish Posse....

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 27/11/2013 16:06

where's my fucking invite?

monkeynuts123 · 27/11/2013 16:26

I'll come!

ThenSheSaid · 27/11/2013 16:28

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis. Don't worry, I think our invites must have got held up at the post office, I am sure postie will be bringing them tomorrow Wink

ClangerOnaComeDown · 27/11/2013 16:32

Eyes up gossipyfishwife

Bring it!

LastOneDancing · 27/11/2013 16:32

Grin Zing.

I'm planning to cop off with an usher.

Are there any fit ones? Because going on previous form I'll ignore them and find myself the odd one with a lazy eye/ limp/ terrible personality.

TiggyD · 27/11/2013 16:33

Too far for me. You'll have to move it closer to Berkshire. Please post again when you have.

And I was planning on wearing a pale gold dress too, so you'll have to change that as well.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 27/11/2013 16:44

I'm expecting my invite any day, delivered by owl post. I am only 114 miles away or thereabouts Wink

SpacegirlRevisited · 27/11/2013 16:48

I used to work in Gainsborough down at John Copeland and would pass The Old Hall daily. I think regardless of numbers you will have a smashing day in such a beautiful venue.

Maybe you could see if any of their re-enactment people could boost numbers. They would be in Elizabethan dress which would be amazing!

Mogz · 27/11/2013 16:49

Wonderful, I'll send my dress off to the dry cleaners and polish my tiara in anticipation. You don't mind if the dress is a bit, erm, white and meringuey do you now dear?

Your stbdh's hair should go great with an autumnal theme, I bet they can deck that hall out with some great autumn/natural themed bits too.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 27/11/2013 16:50

This thread counds as a Save The Date, right? So it would be very rude of you to uninvite us all now and would probably lead to a long-running multi-part thread?

ditsygal · 27/11/2013 17:05

I'll come, I havn't been drunk since having a baby a year ago - I promise I will get drunk quietly, dance for a while and fall asleep under a table without fuss. I've been told I'm a very obedient drunk so I promise not to make a scene!
Oooo and if you want help planning the wedding I can do that too - I soooo miss planning my wedding!

Groovee · 27/11/2013 17:08

I ended up with 220 at my wedding. My dad has so many cousins who had to be invited. One of them knows my dh and asked him why he was there... Dh replied "I'm the groom!" I knew a few people but very few really.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2013 17:23

It's going to be a little unbalanced in the female to male ratio isn't it?

LastOneDancing · 27/11/2013 17:34

Soup - Are we bringing partners then?

This may seriously cramp my usher-copping-offing.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 27/11/2013 17:45

If I start out walking tomorrow, I think I can be there on time.

TimeAndRubberBulletsInSpace · 27/11/2013 17:59

If you don't move it to Cornwall so that I can come then I will start an AIBU thread about the Bridezilla who wouldn't move her wedding hundreds of miles to suit someone she doesn't know

:o

stubbornstains · 27/11/2013 18:11

Ooh, maybe OP could come to Cornwall for her hen weekend? Grin

SoupDragon · 27/11/2013 18:18

Soup - Are we bringing partners then?

I'm not as I don't have one. And, by the looks of things, I won't find one at the wedding unless I change my sexual preference!

bundaberg · 27/11/2013 18:21

I am quite sad that you're so far from me Zombie. I do like a good wedding!

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 27/11/2013 18:22

adventure

of course it does!Grin

Anyone needing a lift?
we have an 8-seater and I'm happy to be the designated driver!

Ginocchio · 27/11/2013 18:26

SoupDragon I'm in, if it helps balance the ratios! Grin Can't beat a good wedding!

Zombie that looks like a lovely venue!
