To just invite a bunch of random MNers to my wedding to boost up numbers?

I'm only half joking :o
DP and I are (hopefully) getting married next autumn, and we'd love (me especially, DP isn't as bothered as me) a big wedding with loads of friends and family. But neither of us have many friends, probably about 10 between us! It probably sounds daft but I want to be surrounded by loads of family and friends and have a big party in the evening. But we just don't have the friends!

Okay I'm not really expecting a bunch of MNers to rock up for a wedding party, I was just having a bit of a self-pitying grumble.

I know getting married isn't just an excuse for a party but I want a big party with loads of people :(

AIBU?

I think you've all scared her off! Don't worry OP I'll protect you if I can have an invite Grin

ICameOnTheJitney · 24/11/2013 08:55

If you're in my neck of the woods I will come too! I love it when Mumsnet gets involved in things....someone once got married at a register office and had no one to witness so a MNr and her DH went! Lovely. x I am in same position as you OP....not that many mates....nothing wrong with inviting some online pals....this is the world today...we make friends online too!

daisychain01 · 24/11/2013 09:04

I need to check first, do you cater for vegetarians (if not, who not?), and can you organise transport for me so I don't have to drive Grin

I would be happy to be part of MN rent-a-crowd, count me in.

BTW please can you send me a Save The Date card? I need to block out the week so I can recover afterwards.

LoreleisSecret · 24/11/2013 09:10

I'd come!!! Grin

ZombiesAteMyCunnyFunt · 24/11/2013 10:32

Aww thank you everyone Blush I wasn't actually expecting loads of you to happily agree to come! This is where the ceremony will hopefully be, the reception will be elsewhere as we want a bar and disco :o sometime next October or November when the leaves are all golden. We can cater for vegetarians, it'll be a buffet so there'll be plenty of choice. Child friendly, lots of children in the family so it would be daft to exclude them! Cheese and pineapple on sticks is a must. I quite agree. I can certainly include a poem in the invite if you wish Wink

I love the idea of turning it into an MN meet up. Name badges and all :o I can just picture our families faces when they clock some of the NNs :o

I never got to eat buffet food at our wedding, will you have a buffet?if so I am in and will happily give you a gift x

ReluctantBeing · 24/11/2013 10:43

We'll come!

We'd be in the same boat, to be honest. Between family, friends and work colleagues, we could muster about 20 people, if partners came. It's one of the reasons we've been engaged for eight years and not got married.

ReluctantBeing · 24/11/2013 10:44

I live cheese and pineapple on sticks!

DameDeepRedBetty · 24/11/2013 10:46

MNetters have been the witnesses for a couple who wanted to do it on the quiet due to bonkers parents or something, will try and find the thread.

Lincolnshire's a bit far for me, but will happily have a glass of virtual bubbly with you on the day!

Mogz · 24/11/2013 10:47

Zombie we looked at that hall as a maybe for our wedding, it's gorgeous, lucky you.

TimeAndRubberBulletsInSpace · 24/11/2013 10:48

Too far away :( Have you considered having it closer to me? Cornwall is very naice for weddings I got married in a castle overlooking the sea

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 24/11/2013 10:52

Ooh I'll come OP. As PP's though, I would like a grabby invite please. Make it shocking!

ICameOnTheJitney · 24/11/2013 11:00

What a gorgeous venue! I'ts too far from me sadly...I reccomend that you build a list of MNrs who are coming so you don't end up with 1000 Mnrs on the threshold all demanding cheese and pineapple on sticks!

ZombieMojaveWonderer · 24/11/2013 12:40

Free bar and my husband and I will be there! Wink

ConfusedPixie · 24/11/2013 13:41

Do it, that's what I'm doing! Loads of the MN locals will be invited to mine Grin

I'm in South East if there are invites going Wink

Punkatheart · 24/11/2013 14:10

I am sorry that you don't have a huge selection of friends - but quality is better than quantity.

I am in the South East too. I am polite, funny and I can be very well-dressed. Ha - that would be such a lovely thing if we all filled the place. I also don't drink very much - so I would not be drain!

WeileWeileWaile · 24/11/2013 14:22

It's 203 miles from me & I don't drive - I'll head off now & I should be in time Grin

facedontfit · 24/11/2013 14:41

My 9 year old loves a wedding if she can be a bridesmaid I'll pay for her dress Grin

Punkatheart · 24/11/2013 14:59

All joking aside - why not organise a meetup local to you in the next six months and see if there is anyone on Mumsnet who you like enough to start a friendship? There are many Mumsnetters I think are lovely.

Whatever happens - it will be a lovely day.

PotteringAlong · 24/11/2013 15:06

Ooh, it looks beautiful.

I'll come. I'll wear my own wedding dress to give the other guests something to talk about if that helps? :o

GiveItYourBestFucker · 24/11/2013 15:29

Quite near me! Can I bring my dog? Grin He likes cheese.
