AIBU?

AIBU to feel upset my friend didn't lend me any money?

I've known him for 8 years as a neighbor and I have never asked to borrow money off him before .We have always got on and I consider him a friend .I hate asking to borrow money off anybody but needs must and he has plenty of it .I over spent today on brand new jacket for £15 which should have been £60 but I couldn't let it go and I was confident of borrowing against it . I have a direct debit which is due out tomorrow for (£12) and I've messed it up .I wish I hadn't asked now. My grandmother used to say to me the best way to lose a friend is to lend them money.I disagree with that because I always pay back my debts if I ever have them.Anyhow this supposed friend said to me I don't like lending money and refused to lend me any.AIBU to feel upset about this?

Calm down Monty Hmm

Id leave this thread OP. Doesn't matter if you've clipped his manky old-man toenails every fortnight for 8 years, these crazies will still be calling you a selfish entitled slut for daring to ask if he might lend you a tenner.

Eskovs
Please stop with the name calling. So far we are all loons and now crazies. We hold a different opinion to you. Deal with it but do not resort to childish name calling.
At the end of the day people shouldn't post on AIBU if they don't want to be told YEs at some point.

Ebenezer Scrooge became disillusioned in his youth as he thought people only ever wanted him for his money hence he turned in to a distrusting miser. It took 3 ghost to show him that nobody had ever asked that of him and instead people only asked for his time, company and understanding.
The ghosts also showed him how willing others were to give him all they had even though they had very little themselves.
At no point in that story did Tiny Tim say "oh Scrooge can you lend me a tenner as I've spent mine on a new coat". GrinGrin
Although that could be a fun twist to an old classic!

Glad to hear your mother helped in the end, but you were being unreasonable to get so upset over your neighbour.

We borrowed £500 to DPs then best mate when he was moving with his girlfriend. DP had known him since nursery and trusted him, and persuaded me that he would pay back every penny. This friend ended up doing a runner with our money, and some of his girlfriends money and no one has heard from him since. Bastard.

So from now on, unless you are family (or my very best friend) and need it for food (in which case I will come and put it on my card) then you aren't getting a penny! People get burnt borrowing money, and some find once they start lending it out, they keep coming back for more and don't always get it back.

Stick to asking family in future!

"Neither a borrower nor a lender be" is a sensible way to live but I am a bit Confused that the meaning of borrowing and lending seem to have become similes despite being opposite actions. Must have missed the memo, but I can see how these discussions get so bloody confusing.
