I'm loving Chris Evans and think he has redeemed himself from past awful behaviour BUT I can't help being annoyed that he has already started his son's future career on radio. I bet he's a lovely lad but...sorry, Chris...I think this is a cheek!

My friend served him and his missus in a cocktail bar of a posh golf-related hotel she was working in- she said he was really, properly lovely. She's not one to gush, and the place used to be heaving with celebrities during golfing events so it's not like she was dazzled by fame either. Thus, I believe her!

Mynewmoniker · 14/08/2013 22:38

For the people saying if you don't like the Noah bit turn it off I have to reiterate and say I like Chris Evans and his energy and enthusiasm so why should I miss out on the rest of the show?

For the people who say he raises loads for charity...so what? It makes him a generous person but it doesn't make him an infallible God. He can still do crap stuff.

On the nepotism list, Ben Fogle got his job via being the son of BBC vet Bruce Fogle.

For the one who asked if my son had missed out on a radio job...no. I am not a bitter mother; I am not effected personally but I do have friends who have attended college/university for media/presenter training and leave without being able to get a foot in the door as people with no training but connections or 'Z' listers have got the presenting jobs.

My only initial point was why Noah needs to be on there if not to set him up for life?

Ben Fogle's mum is the actress Julia Foster - he's well connected on both sides. Amazing what having parents in the industry can do, isn't it?

mignonette · 15/08/2013 08:11

Just look at the modelling industry. Littered with the offspring of the either famous or upper class. Most of them under the height requirements too that the plebs have to fulfill.

Nowadays all offspring of the famous appear to want jobs with a high profile. When did you hear of a rock star's child wanting to be a nurse or teacher or accountant or PA? Rarely. And if they want to go into catering it is as a celeb bloody chef/baker.

gertrudestein · 15/08/2013 08:27

Have always fancied Chris Evans. You can't deny he's a very talented man, whether or not he's your cup of tea.

DinoSnores · 15/08/2013 08:45

Richard Branson's daughter is a doctor.

mignonette · 15/08/2013 09:00

Dino She was but shortly after finishing her first year of post reg training he persuaded her to leave medicine to work on high profile Virgin projects. Wonder if he reimbursed the NHS? She gave an interview years ago saying her Father constantly tried to persuade her to leave. Guess he succeeded.

A friend worked for him and she said she once told him to leave Holly alone as he was apparently always banging on about wanting her to work with him.

Suzieismyname · 15/08/2013 09:03

So glad to see I'm not the only one who hates the 'auction of things money can't buy'. Why can't they have a couple of good ones that are raffled off?

ExcuseTypos · 15/08/2013 09:08

Chris Evans for me a kind of vacuous, mildly abusive and misogynistic stereotype that has become increasingly dated since he first appeared

Totally agree. I know people who work in the industry. He has got slightly better in the way he deals with and works with people. But he's still a bullying, misogynistic twat. I also feel very sorry for his wife.

SpecialAgentCuntSnake · 15/08/2013 09:18

He comes across as a really horrible man pretending to be nice IMO.

Mynewmoniker · 15/08/2013 09:21

Just looked up the word misogynist.

'A man who hates every bone in a woman's body, except his.'

I like and listen to local BBC in midlands area, where most of the blokes have a radio face, I actually do love them as people.

But something about Chris Evans does annoy me, I think he thinks he is cool and desirable. I would turn him over, no doubt about that.

ZolaBuddleia · 15/08/2013 09:28

Doing voice overs at the age of four isn't going to 'set him up for life'. Having a millionaire dad is going to do that.

Look at all the kids who have been models, child actors etc and never ever been employed in the industry as adults.

WireCat · 15/08/2013 09:44

Ah, I think Chris Evans is a good man at heart.

He knows he messed up in his early career, he sometimes mentions it.

I think he can't believe how lucky he s now t have recovered his career & have a lovely wife & children.

Also, he s back in his daughters life. He was very involved in her wedding.

The CIN thing can be tiresome but that's because I couldn't bid in a million years! Grin

antimatter · 16/08/2013 07:42

Does he still says things like "She is an amazing actress and she is ALSO beautiful"
or
"She is great athlete and she is ALSO very beautiful"

that s soooo sexist

imagine female radio presenter saying things line that about men - she would be chewed and spit back before she finished such sentence

TheOneAndOnlyFell · 16/08/2013 08:02

I agree about Ken Bruce. It's like he's in a 1970's joke time warp! And hasn't he got several children by several women too?

Good grief. How dare he? Who in there right mind would employ a man who had been married three times? Hmm

This thread is really pissing me off. Some of you have some very weird ideas about things, and are coming across as incredibly smug and judgmental. If you don't like a particular presenter then just turn the show off.

TheOneAndOnlyFell · 16/08/2013 08:03

their not there

IslaValargeone · 16/08/2013 08:19

I agree with the comments about him being a bully etc.
I don't think for one minute he is a good man t heart. I think he's an awful man who sometimes does good things.
He tries far too hard to be Mr.popular, lovely philosophical Chris, but every now and again you catch a glimpse of the shit within, he just can't help himself having a go if someone is cleverer, funnier, richer than him.

ArgyMargy · 16/08/2013 08:21

Popmaster - don't get me started; I always switch over when it starts. Which probably goes to show that the only thing worse than radio presenters inane drivel is listening to members of the public drone on about their own lives.

aliciagardner · 16/08/2013 08:22

Agree with oneandonly. This thread is odd. Chris Evans isn't 'setting his son up for life', he's just recorded his son saying some cute things and plays them as jingles on his show. As pp said, he's a personality DJ and that's what they do - and let's face it, his listening figures demonstrate that A LOT of people like his show. If you don't like it, turn off.

As for the charity auction thing - extremely odd to say that it's in poor taste to raise millions of pounds for charity. It's a fact that some people have a lot of money. Just because others don't, does that mean that the richest shouldn't spend their money?! What's the objection here? There's always inequality in the world, look at any football player earning more in a week than most of us earn yearly! It's the way if the the world. If the charity auction raises millions for CIN, how can this possibly be a bad thing?

LottieJenkins · 16/08/2013 08:33

I lurve Chris Evans because he read out mine and Bumbledog's breaking news two months ago and Bdog got three Noah cheers!!! Grin Grin Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 16/08/2013 08:38

Jingles should be sent back to the 80s where they belong.

ExcuseTypos · 16/08/2013 08:44

This thread isn't 'odd'.

It's like 99% of other threads on MN-people discussing something, some agreeing and others disagreeing. Its not up to anyone to start telling people what's allowed to be posted about.

Agree with you Kim. They would raise much more by having a good old 'raffle' for each one of those prizes.
