I'm loving Chris Evans and think he has redeemed himself from past awful behaviour BUT I can't help being annoyed that he has already started his son's future career on radio. I bet he's a lovely lad but...sorry, Chris...I think this is a cheek!

Euphemia it's just the same as when Terry Wogan did it though, crazy amounts of money for CIN that none of the rest of us could possibly afford. Evans didn't start it.

Lorelilee · 13/08/2013 21:40

The point is Euphemia that they almost certainly would not have put their hands in their pockets if there hadn't been that incentive. I don't give a fuck how it's done, I just think it's brilliant that he uses his power and influence to make a lot of childrens' lives a whole lot better.

ShellyBoobs · 13/08/2013 21:42

The people who donated the elements of the prize could have put their hands in their pockets and raised millions.

But they didn't (that we know of).

So the alternative was for them to not donate prizes and thereby not help to raise millions.

Mynewmoniker · 13/08/2013 21:42

He uses his son to make comments like 'Happy Tuesday everyone' and plays them often throughout the show.

Oh I love Chris Evans. I listened to him as a kid on Radio 1 and again now as a 20-something on Radio 2 Smile

Samnella · 13/08/2013 21:42

YANBU but I wager you Will Smith's son. Now that's annoying.

ShellyBoobs · 13/08/2013 21:43

He uses his son to make comments like 'Happy Tuesday everyone' and plays them often throughout the show.

Whaat!

The utter bastard!

YA definitely NBU, now you've explained that.

Sonnet · 13/08/2013 21:44

He has an older daughter that he has nothing to do with. That alone makes him someone I dislike

Lorelilee · 13/08/2013 21:46

Actually Sonnet he is back in touch with her and fully involved in her life and admits his behaviour was utterly unreasonable before. She is getting married soon and he talks about the preparations on his show.

NotAQueef · 13/08/2013 21:46

He irks me, mainly for his vulgar displays of wealth - such as buying a Ferrari for something like £12m. It made me feel sick that he was boasting about it. Expensive cars I can must about get but £12m, just doesn't sit right with me.

crypes · 13/08/2013 21:46

I would give thousands to charity if I was rich and famous and everyone would love me and I could get my son a good job too, and then if I was on telly everyone would laugh sychophantically in studio as soon as I say anything.

Panzee · 13/08/2013 21:46

How does his daughter feel?

Mynewmoniker · 13/08/2013 21:47

Grin ShellyBoobs.

I know..said like that it sounds petty BUT it's not what his son says, it's how Chris has wangled him a spot on the radio that irks me.

The Ferrari was bought in his 'past' life. He now uses it, along with other cars in his collection, to raise money for CIN.

That isn't true Sonnet. They are reconciled.

EasterHoliday · 13/08/2013 21:50

so a rich person buys an expensive holiday they can afford and a charity benefits substantially, and that's somehow worse than the rich person spending the same amount of money on a holiday through a travel agent where no charity gets any money?!

i'm fairly certain it's a contractual requirement for the breakfast show host for both radio 1 and 2 to raise money for CIN; they do it based on the earnings potential of their listeners. That car festival thing that he does is not something he randomly came up with on air - that's all carefully scripted and CIN is a very well run slick charity operation that relies on celebrity to bring in the donations. Don't see the issue - the end result is a good one.

valiumredhead · 13/08/2013 21:51

Oh is it Noah that says happy Tuesday? We love that, it makes us laughGrin

I'd hardly call that a careerHmm Wink

Actually wrt his wealth,I really like the fact that be gets excited/enthusiastic about things still, it must be very easy to become jaded with so much money.

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2013 21:52

Davina McCall's daughter used to do the jingle on Chris Moyles' Breakfast show. It was very sweet.

Lorelilee · 13/08/2013 21:52

Oh, and he regularly makes me laugh out loud. Which is more than can be said for Steve Shite.

mignonette · 13/08/2013 21:54

He was a complete bastard on GLR in the late 80's to ealry 90's when presenting with his then wife Carole. He also abandoned his first daughter until conveniently he was 'rehabilitated' by his second wife into acknowledging her. What kind of person does that? He played a great part in that other creature Paul Gascgoine's nascent alcoholism, encouraging and supporting week long binges and he now makes a big production of 'helping' by sending him to expensive American rehabs.

He is arrogant and reacts very negatively to anybody who dares be quicker/cleverer or more charismatic than him. I know some folks who worked in his production company and he was despised.

He has always reminded me of the DJ in Stephen Poliakoff's play 'City Sugar' who is a megalomaniac, controlling and manipulating his lackeys and the audience.

Mynewmoniker · 13/08/2013 21:55

Yes...I too like him, valium... and I like that he enthuses people to give to CIN.

BUT my issue is that he has got his son onto radio and to me it's the usual BBC sycophantic behaviour.

Both my OH and I like Chris Evans and I often listen to radio 2 on the way to work. Personally I think he deserves to be as wealthy as he is and am glad he enjoys it.

We all have varying levels of wealth and what is gratuitous for one is pin money to another. I would certainly spend £12m on a car if I had it to spend in the first place.

I also find his sons voice incredibly sweet. He uses all sorts of voices for different parts of the show. Not sure what the problem is tbh.

Sparklingbrook · 13/08/2013 21:57

I would quite like to have a listen but alas I am stuck with Grimmy on Radio 1 on the school run.

Mynewmoniker · 13/08/2013 21:58

What era were they working in his production company, mignonette? Not recently, surely. Hmm
