I'm loving Chris Evans and think he has redeemed himself from past awful behaviour BUT I can't help being annoyed that he has already started his son's future career on radio. I bet he's a lovely lad but...sorry, Chris...I think this is a cheek!

YADNBU - I stopped listening to Chris Evans because of the constant Noah stuff

mignonette · 13/08/2013 22:04

Six years ago and one is still working for him because the job itself is good although he is an immature arse. He has fingers in many many pies and they were spread across several divisions. Other friends working with Branson and they too got very tired of his antics.

PuggyMum · 13/08/2013 22:04

I used to love davina mccalls daughter. 'Internaional Radio 1'..... Chris Evans just pinched the idea and Noah doesn't sound half as cute.

It doesn't offend me though!

mrslyman · 13/08/2013 22:05

I quite like listening to him on the radio, although he does have a bit of an ego on him.

I actually think it's quite refreshing that he's fairly open about his wealth, we all know he has the money so why should he pretend that he doesn't?

Also slightly puzzled at how you can be so offended by someone who has been successful at extracting money off rich people for a worthy cause.

mrslyman · 13/08/2013 22:06

I mean offended at the F1 auction itself rather than that making Chris Evans unoffensive.

SirChenjin · 13/08/2013 22:06

I like him now on R2 - hated him previously - but I do wish he'd stop going on about Tash and Noah. I really don't care what biscuits Tash has made or what she's bought at their butchers although I'm sure she's very nice

northernlurker · 13/08/2013 22:10

Didn't Terry Wogan auction off similar experiences for CIN too?

I find it quite touching that he enthuses about his sons so much. He knows perfectly well he made a complete cock up of fatherhood the first time around and at least he's trying to do better now. Most parents talk about their kids at work at some point. He just has more people listening. Evans Junior will NOT be able to build a career only on the strength of some jingles.

mignonette · 13/08/2013 22:11

It is the context of F1 and the profligacy involved (Ecclestone sisters, anyone?). A bit like Food Aid and Fashion Aid for Africa. Big lavish banquets costing nearly as much to put on as is raised. That is why I am a bit cynical about these events as often what they cost to arrange could just be donated but of course then they wouldn't be able to publicly congratulate each other and themselves would they? I would love to see the balance sheet of some of these events like The Love Ball.

SoulTrain · 13/08/2013 22:14

I like him. I think he knows he's a bit of a tosser and is open about definitely being a tosser in his younger days.

As for the poster who asked what kind of person makes up with a long lost son of daughter: lots of people I assume. Far better to be open about your mistakes and do what you can to rectify them when you can than never to have any communication again surely? It doesn't excuse the original behaviour but it would be far worse if he was clearly loving fatherhood to two young boys while not having any contact with his daughter. Just because someone's loaded doesn't make them incapable of the same mistakes millions of Parents make. I'm also assuming his daughter is happy with the contact?

Also, we do all realise that Noah isn't actually in the studio as some sort if side kick don't we? I think the production team realise a substantial proportion of the audience are similarly aged to Chris and are by and large parents so its just appealing to the demographic.

Plus, you can always NOT listen! Wink

Mendi · 13/08/2013 22:15

I love Chris Evans now, though I loathed him in the TGIF years. He seems to have really embraced family life and, although I wouldn't involve my kids in jingles and so on, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

He raises huge amounts for charity which, as others have said, would not just be donated spontaneously otherwise. The kind of people who have £100k to spend on the supercar/golf weekend for CIN are going to want something pretty amazing for that money!

He gave about 50% of the sale money away to charity when he sold Virgin Radio.

What's the problem?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 13/08/2013 22:21

I think he is sliding into Steve Wright territory. He has even started singing over songs like him.

I don't care about his kids, don't want to hear them, I don't want lengthy chats with the traffic woman with the annoying laugh or the sport guy.

The show at the moment is just an ego-fest.

MultumInParvo · 13/08/2013 22:23

Hip hip hooray!

I like Noah.

MultumInParvo · 13/08/2013 22:24

I love the big show too. Barry from Watford and elvis are funny.

ImperialBlether · 13/08/2013 22:25

I would like him to just once mention his first daughter, to say something nice about her and her achievements. Anyone would think Theo is his first child.

SwedishEdith · 13/08/2013 22:26

Yep, completely agree AnneEM He's turned into the cliche radio presenter who think it's all about him. I've pretty much given up altogether on Radio 2 now - only listen when I'm in the car, but not to Evans.

StetsonsAreCool · 13/08/2013 22:32

How do we feel about George singing along to the eggs song? Isn't that much the same? Child doing a soundbite for a show. Who is George anyway? And how do I know his name?? Confused

I like listening on my way to work in the morning, though sometimes I do feel a bit uncomfortable at some underlying tone or something that I can't put my finger on.

I'm going to keep listening though, as I haven't found anything else that I enjoy half as much.

Zoe Ball got her break into media through her dad
Simon King got his break into TV through his dad
Robert Peston got his break through his dad
William Ravenscroft got his break into Radio through his dad
nepotism is the way it is in the media

Blush12 · 13/08/2013 22:34

I love Chris Evans breakfast show and I am quite happy listening to Noah. Also I thought he mentioned his daughter quite a bit.

If you don't like it don't listen to him.

fancyanother · 13/08/2013 22:35

Imperial, he does mention his daughter, and her wedding quite a lot. She is an adult. Maybe a grown woman wouldn't get as much from having her business aired on the radio as a four year old hearing his dad talk about his day at nursery or whatever! She also must be quite happy to be reconciled with him as I think he said he is doing the father of the bride speech. He was a teenage dad I think. He is allowed to admit his mistakes and put them right. I think vitriol needs to be saved for the loser dads of famous people ( Adele, Amy Winehouse) who only show interest in their children once they're famous and more to the point, rich.

Having said that, I do find the Noah jingles quite annoying! I like his show in general though.

Talkinpeace · 13/08/2013 22:36

Paula Yates got her break into media through her dad - both the man she thought it was and the real one

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 13/08/2013 22:45

Imperial, he doesn't have a child called Theo and he mentions his daughter a lot.

TSSDNCOP · 13/08/2013 22:46

I enjoy the show.

He's raised a lot of money for CIN, the auctions are a continuation of those started by Wogan who referenced the Present Lady Wogan just as frequently as Evans mentions Tash.

Evans comes over as a man who can't quite believe his luck. His autobiography was enlightening and very honest. He admits he was a total cunt to his first child. and her mother. His reaction to fatherhood this time is rather sweet, he's so determined not to balls it up.

His on-air reaction to the Ross/Brand episode was brief but very honest: "with great privilege comes great responsibility", said not without personal insight I think.

I love the way his mind pings around ideas, and then he creates a whole new thing like Carfest.

He's lovely to the kids that call up with their "First thing ever", loads of them get invited to do other things.

I'd like to meet him.

MrsHoarder · 13/08/2013 22:52

Noah is mildly irritating but what drove me back to the today show is the lack of decent professional boundaries between the presenters.

Along the women you work with what they wear to bed and similar isn't on. I don't care if its scripted and okayed by the women in question beforehand, the BBC should demonstrate less intrusive ways colleagues can chat.

ImperialBlether · 13/08/2013 22:54

Noah, sorry! Don't know where Theo came from.

I used to listen to him regularly (not much choice in the morning) but he never mentioned his daughter until fairly recently. He used to talk about his son all the time. And yes, she's older, but it was still noticeable.

bohoec · 13/08/2013 22:56

I said this the other day to DP. His view was that if he could take our DC to work with him, he world.

I'm totally with OP on this one though!
