I'm loving Chris Evans and think he has redeemed himself from past awful behaviour BUT I can't help being annoyed that he has already started his son's future career on radio. I bet he's a lovely lad but...sorry, Chris...I think this is a cheek!

I thought he always went on about Tash and Noah because he was always going on about 'beautiful Billy', his ex wife. It made him sound like he only got married and had a kid so he could say 'nah nah nanana nah, look, I did it too'. Who gets married and goes on about their 'beautiful' ex all the time???

Mendi · 13/08/2013 23:03

He talked about his daughter's recent "tent" wedding at length earlier this summer.

mummymeister · 13/08/2013 23:06

have a look at how many successful working actors there are at the moment and how many of them have parents, grandparents, aunts uncles other family members in show business. it is not an industry based on talent but on how you know and who you are related to. chris evans son will be famous and successful in show business. same as Gerry halls daughter modelling, have famous parents have show business doors opened for you. all mr evans is doing is being a bit more blatant about it.

TiggyD · 13/08/2013 23:13

"He doesn't strike me as misanthropic" - well, he does wear glasses.

FayeKorgasm · 13/08/2013 23:26

I don't have a strong opinion about Chris Evans, but like other posters, I find the auction for children in need to be distasteful. In allows only the very very wealthy to bid for the experiences, everyone else can just sod off.

My suggestion would be a raffle of some kind instead, which would give a much wider audience a chance to take part.

I always support Children in Need, but as a charity so closely associated with the BBC, I find this auction - and the previous Wogan auctions - completely at odds with the ethos of the corporation.

That feels so much better, I have seethed about this for a long time!

MrsDe · 13/08/2013 23:31

But if it's ony the very wealthy that can take part doesn't that mean they are raising more money? Isn't that the point?

TiggyD · 13/08/2013 23:32

The British Broadcasting Copulation is for everybody in Britain. Poor, plumbers, dentists, middle class, children and other professions, and rich people.

TiggyD · 13/08/2013 23:34

One rich person giving £100,000 for a round of golf with Jimmy White is as good as 100,000 children giving a pound pocket money. The people and charities who recieve it will be just as happy.

The big expensive "things money can't buy" items have always been part of the CIN auction - that started with Terry Wogan.

Chris Evans has just carried the tradition on.

How odd to object to that if it earns a ton of money!

Salmotrutta · 13/08/2013 23:42

But they also do a more "accessible" auction too don't they?

ShellyBoobs · 13/08/2013 23:43

I've always thought that a simple text competition at say £1 each would get more money than 1 person bidding 1000s.

You'll be pleased to know they do that, too, then.

Ah yes Shelly - they do that don't they!

I'm still bemused as to why people moan about rich folk bidding for charity though ...

My DD was one of the kids "doing something for the first time ever" earlier this year, and he was absolutely lovely to her on the phone.

Chris Evans obviously thinks that his son is amazing, as most parents think their children are. But the rest of us don't inflict our toddlers' chattering on the listening public. Can't listen to the show it irritates me too much.

mrslyman · 14/08/2013 00:31

I'm pretty sure Children in Need also do a thing where you can phone up or text in to give money.

This link provides the full details of what the auction some of you find so objectionable raised www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2012/radio-2-cin.html

For those who can't be bothered to click on the link, the Chris Evans breakfast show raised £3.6 million, £89,589 came from a text competition, yes they should definitely do less auctions and give more people the opportunity to text in some money.

capitola · 14/08/2013 00:35

I really like Chris Evans & always have done, even when he was a bit twatty in the late 90s.

I dip in and out of his radio show as I hate the music he plays and prefer radio 1 for music. But I love his joie de vivre.

My friend has dealings with him and says he is a thoroughly good & kind hearted bloke.

InWithTheITCrowd · 14/08/2013 01:31

All personality radio presenters do features like that - local, regional and national.
The whole point of having a personality presenter is that they invite you into soundbites of their lives - it's radio presenting 101!
And it works.

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 14/08/2013 05:21

funny, i loved him during his big breakfast / tfi friday days and now don't listen :)

anytime i catch a bit of his radio show i feel really sorry for him. think it was a rod stewart interview not so long ago and he was being a twat. mr stewart seemed really peeved with him and it showed during the interview

i turned off as i was embarrassed for him, a bit like what others have said, he seems to not be able to cope with anyone who has something to say/is smarter than him or not worship at his feet

but, good luck to him. i'm sure he doesn't speak highly of me :)

This thread is another example of how MN does not reflect real life.

coughingbeanintheoven · 14/08/2013 06:15

I love chris evans, he did something incredibly generous for my family for no publicity whatsoever.
cant go wrong in my book.

JollyHappyGiant · 14/08/2013 06:19

I wouldn't have said he's got his son on radio to set him up for a future career. I would have said he's got his son on radio because he's his son and he's proud and he wants others to hear him.... Noah's been on there for years.
