During one of those meandering conversations with a friend the other day, the topic of parents' public displays of affection came up. She was shocked when I said that all I could remember between them was the odd hand hold and peck on the cheek, and seemed to view witnessing her own mum and dad having sex, through a slightly opened door when she was around 11, as some kind of rite of passage. Like, I was bound to be a bit screwed up about sex because this hadn't happened to sheltered me Oh, the very idea of it though! And surely it's not THAT common to have seen parents DTD?

Don't know why on earth I said 'shagging' by the way, I never would usually.

I never saw or heard a thing in my own house. I did hear my friend's parents shagging when at a sleepover once, when I was a teenager. I definitely wanted to un-hear that, but couldn't.

I've heard it and once got up in the night for some water and stumbled on an oral scene I would like to brain bleach from my memory...luckily they were too engrossed to notice, because having to acknowledge it would have been mortifying to my 13year old self! but I think there was more risk as my parents separated and had other partners. (And therefore tended to be shagging like rabbits more than ordinary long-married couples)
For the record I have no hang ups about sex.

I heard it on a regular basis - I was always a very light sleeper. I think it actually had a negative impact on my relationship with my mother.

My parents has sex twice. Once to make my sister and again to nake me. There was no need for sex after that.

When I was about 18 I went out of the evening and when I got back I stuck my head around their bedroom door to say I was back.

This was standard, Dsis and I both did it as mum would fall asleep stay awake reading in bed until we got back. Except that this particular time I opened the door and saw 2 face, lit up from the light of the hall, one above the other.

The worst thing? I said "Oh my God I am SOOOO sorry!" so they knew that I knew exactly what they were up to :o

I thought it was quite nice tbh, obviously not to see it but to know that after many years together they still enjoyed a physical relationship :)

I heard them once, it doesn't seem to have done any permanent damage. My dad slept naked though and I did go into the bedroom a couple of times after having nightmares and saw more than I wanted too

Surely if you did see it, you are more likely to he put off sex.

I used to hear mine at it, just typing that makes me shudder.

It's why I'm so wary of our own shagging if I think the ds's might still be awake.
