During one of those meandering conversations with a friend the other day, the topic of parents' public displays of affection came up. She was shocked when I said that all I could remember between them was the odd hand hold and peck on the cheek, and seemed to view witnessing her own mum and dad having sex, through a slightly opened door when she was around 11, as some kind of rite of passage. I saw my grandparents

I reckon I must have been about 8 and had slept over. When I woke in the morning I went into their bedroom same as I would have if I'd been at home with my parents. What I saw was an image I've never been able to erase

I have never seen (thank feck), but have heard.....just as pp have described - bed squeaking rhythmically, gradually speeding up, then stopping. Wait few minutes, sound of en-suite loo flushing. I thought it was quite funny but have never mentioned it to either of them.

I'm pretty private around my children re my body and obviously my DH being a step parent needed to adopt boundaries maybe differing from that of their Father. Once they got to around five, I shut the bathroom door and didn't encourage them to watch me dress etc.

I'm open about what we talk about but just naturally private about other stuff.

Much to my embarrassment sd caught me and dh shagging in the kitchen when she was about 12. It took a while for us to realise but everytime her dad asked her to do something she would tell him to "shag off" and make thrusting movements with her hips and start laughing. My parents sleep naked, so there were many, many times that I saw more naked flesh than I wanted to. Even as an adult I have seen more of my naked parents than I would ever wish to, all in emergencies when I have been called in to help with medical things in the middle of the night, helping a naked dad get a naked mum back into bed is NOT something I ever thought I would need to do.
