To think there was no need for a hairdresser and such to be ordered for Kate when she left the hospital yesterday.

First off: I know they are royals and are in the public eye a lot. But was there really a need for her to be sent a hairdresser so she'd look her absolute best when she left the hospital? I mean how many pregnant woman look pretty much perfect when they leave and actually care when they've just given birth 24 hours ago.

I think she's naturally pretty anyway so would have looked fine make up free with her hair tied up. I'm wondering if she requested it or if it was ordered she was to look her shining best to leave?

What is it with MN today?!? I had a baby 11 days ago and have been madly deleting photos of me where I look like shit. I would bloody love a stylist and a hairdresser if photos of me were going to be beamed around the world and remain in the public eye forever. Go acquire yourself a grip and munch on this Biscuit whilst you are at it.

allmycats · 24/07/2013 11:37

Good For Her !!!
There are some real sad people on mumsnet today

Sunshineandwaves · 24/07/2013 11:42

I bet she would have much rather have snuck out a back door and gone straight home.

cushtie335 · 24/07/2013 11:45

...and if she'd come out of the hospital with Cherie Blair bedhead the poor lass would never have heard the end of it.

flowery · 24/07/2013 11:46

Millions of people round the world are seeing those pictures now and for years to come, and you don't see why she might feel she needed a hairdresser?

God I felt so hideous after giving birth I'd have loved a nice bath, hair wash and someone to make me look (and feel) nice. And that's just little old normal me who just had to shuffle to the car and then into the house where I could curl up on the sofa with my new baby. Not Kate who had to face a media frenzy. It probably took a lot of effort to do what she did yesterday ... which was a duty, not a choice. All credit I say.

Do you know, I think that baby had been washed too. Such vanity! Everyone knows that newborns are covered in gunk and Kate should have been perfectly happy to introduce the new heir to the throne to the world all messed up.

DoctorRobert · 24/07/2013 11:58

YABU

I have to admit, when I hear of normal women re-applying make-up during labour, taking straighteners in with them etc, I do think it's incredibly vain & silly. I didn't give a shit what I looked like after having given birth.

However, I wasn't facing the world's press. In Kate's position yes I absolutely would have had a hairdresser, make-up artist, the works.

lljkk · 24/07/2013 12:01

I'm one of the scruffier people in Britain and I'd have had someone in to to my hair and the slap.

Now, if you're asking should the media have buggered off before she emerged and let her go home in peace? Of course they should have, they never should have camped outside in the first place. I'd vote for a time machine and massive cultural transformation to make that happen.

piprabbit · 24/07/2013 12:02

Because hitting the "day 3" hormone crash while looking at slightly shit pictures of yourself in every available media outlet in the world, is probably not going to make you feel better about things. If it is what she wanted to do, then good on her.

motownmover · 24/07/2013 12:03

Oh that big hormone crash - it is awful isn't it. Good luck to Kate today and tomorrow!

MrsMongoose · 24/07/2013 13:31

I'd have wanted it if I was Kate. And if Kate wanted it too, it is none of our business. Yes, she would look lovely without, but if that's not how she wanted to look, people should keep their beak out.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 24/07/2013 13:34

Sorry but of I was going to be on the front page of every newspaper the day after I'd have a baby, I'd have a hairdresser and a make up lady!

Manchesterhistorygirl · 24/07/2013 13:37

Have you been in a shop today. Every single paper has coverage of the new baby and the duchess of Cambridge on the cover. If I were here I'd have had me hair and make up done too!

Eastpoint · 24/07/2013 13:43

Yabu - she wanted a hairdresser to come so one was booked. She's just been pregnant under the world's gaze, pushed out a baby & been in front of the press & interviewed within a day of having a baby. I didn't even have to leave hospital until mine were 3 days old. Give her the same amount of slack you'd give anyone else in those circumstances.

YABU. She does need it because she naturally wants to look her best in photos that are going to be splashed on tabloids all over the world and brought out periodically in years to come. I would have loved a hairdresser to have come in after I had DS. As it happens, I don't think she looked 'perfect' anyway - she did look like a pretty woman who has just had a baby.

Borntobeamum · 24/07/2013 14:04

Yabu.
Can you imagine the headlines if she had just stumbled out if the doors looking hideous?!
Someone would have said she wasn't coping, didn't care, and no doubt the prince was at risk.

I've come to realise they just can't win!

absentmindeddooooodles · 24/07/2013 14:04

YAB sooooo U the poor woman had the entire world looking at her. She gave birth about 24 hours before and was probably feeling like shit. God, the day after having ds I was walking like john Wayne and still in PJs. If I was her I would have had make up artists hair dressers stylists the lot! Seriously cut her some slack. What's it to you if she had her hair done before millions of people saw her....I'm sure most people would have done the same. Bore off.

runningforthebusinheels · 24/07/2013 14:07

YABU.

Those photos will never ever go away - of course she needs her hairdresser. Can you imagine the DM headlines otherwise?

flipchart · 24/07/2013 14:08

To be honest I wanted to look my best as I left hospital and for ll the family photos.
Therefore day or so before labour my hair was cut and styled, my eyelashes were tinted, my bag bag was packed with nice lotions and make up, I had a manicure and pedicure. Why not? I had the time to do it before he arrived. Once I was alone with the baby and before the next visiting time there wasn't much to do as he slept.

MrsMelons · 24/07/2013 14:09

I would have happily had a hairdresser come in to the hospital when I gave birth but then I also made sure I did my make up just before I went to the hospital as I dreaded having one of those awful post birth photos where you look like death warmed up Grin

Gooseysgirl · 24/07/2013 14:10

Call me vain (and I very rarely wear makeup) but there were no photos taken of me and DD until I put some slap on the next day, having been thru 24hrs of labour with no sleep ending in EMCS!! I think she was dead right to have her hairdresser there... Anyway they have just overtaken us on the M4 not far from Bucklebury so I hope they have a lovely time away from the media bonding as a familySmile
