To think there was no need for a hairdresser and such to be ordered for Kate when she left the hospital yesterday.

First off: I know they are royals and are in the public eye a lot. But was there really a need for her to be sent a hairdresser so she'd look her absolute best when she left the hospital? I mean how many pregnant woman look pretty much perfect when they leave and actually care when they've just given birth 24 hours ago.

I think she's naturally pretty anyway so would have looked fine make up free with her hair tied up. I'm wondering if she requested it or if it was ordered she was to look her shining best to leave?

Motow, I don't think Sunday was actually judging her on her appearance. I think she was just asking if it was necessary for her to have a hairdresser. That's how I've read it anyway.

Sunday, the world is watching and as others have said she'd be damned if she didn't and damned if she did. She's in a no win situation where people will scrutinise either way.

motownmover · 24/07/2013 11:07

Ok but I think the OP just adds to all the comments about her appearance.

HoldingHigh · 24/07/2013 11:08

Ha! I've only just noticed the occurring 'poor woman'. That she definitely is not Wink

I was more shocked of her having a boy. I thought it was going to be a girl. Smile

badguider · 24/07/2013 11:09

she is pretty enough as she is but she probably knows her hairdresser really well and it would have been more relaxing to just sit there and be 'done' than trying to dry her hair herself (and i don't believe she can be expected to be photographed with unwashed sweaty labour hair).

HellonHeels · 24/07/2013 11:09

I'm no fan of the royals but I don't see any need for carping and judgement on whether she should have had her hair and makeup done or not. She's just given birth, she can do what the hell she likes IMO.

Can imagine the headlines if she left hospital looking unkempt and casually / badly dressed.

I am am massive a detractor of Kate as you'll find, but even I can't criticise her for having her hair done when almost every person on the planet will see the pictures.

melika · 24/07/2013 11:12

My hair and make up were the VERY last things on my mind when leaving the hospital, but I didn't have the world outside the door. I don't blame her having help. It was nice that we could see quite clearly her post baby bump, very reassuring for us.

She did look tired, vunerable and nervous. But fantastic at the same time too.

teacher123 · 24/07/2013 11:13

I have worn make up every day since I had DS 15 months ago. Makes me feel more human, and better able to face the day. I've also had a shower first thing every day and tried not to let my hair go more than two days without a wash. I'm not particularly vain, but if I look ok, I feel ok. Anyway, those photos will be used forever and she probably felt much better having someone else wash and dry her hair for her and stick some simple make up on.

MissStrawberry · 24/07/2013 11:14

I look terrible in the first photo of the whole family after ds was born. Really dark shadows under my eyes due to 14 hours without sleep but I am more upset how ugly I look than knackered tbh.

YABU OP. If she wanted the attentions of a hair dresser to give her confidence why the hell not.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 24/07/2013 11:15

Yabu, it must have taken some real guts to go out there with all that press so soon after giving birth. She must have been feeling so vulnerable and emotional. If getting her hair done etc gave her a bit of confidence, I'm glad they were able to do that. Personally I didn't like that they had to do the press thing so soon anyway, why isn't a statement enough until she has fully recovered and they have settled in?

SoupDragon · 24/07/2013 11:16

she's pretty enough without all the pampering.

Possibly not after X hours of labour, giving birth and dealing with a newborn. I looked far worse than usual after having DS1. I don't blame her one bit - these photos are going to haunt her for ever! whereas I can just hide mine.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 24/07/2013 11:18

YABU. Of course she was going to have her hair done and put some make up on. I would have done the same if everyone had been looking at me when I left the hospital too.

SalIAm · 24/07/2013 11:18

If I was offered the choice in hospital I'd have jumped at the chance. Once you're home everything so more chaotic, I wouldn't have wanted to do that length hair by myself on next to no sleep.

QueenMaeve · 24/07/2013 11:19

I had my make up bag and hair brush in my labour room bag and had my face done before I went back up to the ward. When I had cs with the other dc I always had my hair done the day before my cs. I don't feel good if I don't look good.

Numberlock · 24/07/2013 11:21

perhaps less happy about having to face so many cameras one day post partum with her tiny baby

If I had all her (unearned) privileges I'd have been unhappy to dress up as Mr Blobby on leaving the hospital.

missesjellybean · 24/07/2013 11:22

my husband took the most foul pictures of me when my ds was born....I had just come back from theatre, my hair and face were full of blood....I'd had blood transfusions and they'd managed to pop one of the bags wrong poring blood accidently in my hair ears face...despite my best efforts it just kept re appearing.

I had a blood transfusion running in each arm, my arms were so full of bruises from them trying to site a cannula I looked like an established iv drug addict..my roots needed doing....really bad (i had booked a hair appointment for the next day so I looked good after labour lol)

I was freakishly pale and I actually think I looked like I'm about to die (my dc looked gorgeous)

I don't even remember this photo being taken by my camera happy over proud dh. the first I saw of it was when the picture started appearing on fb family members had shared it as first photo of dc!!! then I saw it in frames at peoples houses (mainly in laws) my own mum nearly died laughing when she saw the picture....I've never felt so disgusting in my life...I looked like escaped a horror movie.needless to say dh has never lived it down.

next time I'm tempted to hire a bloody hairdresser and make up artist to come to the hospital so I never have to feel like that again anything that makes you feel better after having your baby is a bonus...I'm mortified I look so bad on early pictures with my dc if they'd been shared with the world I'd probably have killed my hubby!

BridgetBidet · 24/07/2013 11:23

How many of us look a certain way because we have to when we sometimes don't feel like it? I'm sure plenty of judges, teachers, office workers, bankers, TV presenters, solicitors, etc, etc, etc wake up in the morning and wish they could go to work with their hair unbrushed in their tracksuit bottoms?

Loads I would say. But they don't because people are expected to look a certain way to give a certain impression. Almost all of us have to do it to some extent.

To a large extent we do this out of respect for other people. I'm not sure what people would think if they turned up at their solicitors office and he was wearing a Kappa tracksuit and a pair of reeboks. Nor what people would think if their child's teacher turned up dressed wearing Rihanna's clobber every day.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 24/07/2013 11:23

I would have loved someone to have done my hair after giving birth. I felt like I'd been hit by a bus.

I couldn't have walked in the shoes she wore, she did well. I barely managed a walk down to the hospital shop.

pumpkinsweetie · 24/07/2013 11:25

Yabu, those photos will remain in history and wouldn't anyone want to look their best if the whole world had their eyes on you!

MinimalistMommi · 24/07/2013 11:27

YABU.
Media from all around the world were there. That is not the moment to go 'natural'

CissyMeldrum · 24/07/2013 11:28

She is never going to get it right is she, why do so many people feel the need to comment on every little thing.
I have read threads today on hair/makeup, carseat, and names.

melika · 24/07/2013 11:28

My feet would never have got into those shoes they were so swollen, more like flip flops for me!

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 24/07/2013 11:29

There really are some monumentally stupid royal baby threads around at the moment - what is it?!

I can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt, I'd have wanted a hairdresser on hand before braving that slew of the world's photographers, for photos that were going to last into perpetuity.

YABU. Very U.
