To think there was no need for a hairdresser and such to be ordered for Kate when she left the hospital yesterday.

First off: I know they are royals and are in the public eye a lot. But was there really a need for her to be sent a hairdresser so she'd look her absolute best when she left the hospital? I mean how many pregnant woman look pretty much perfect when they leave and actually care when they've just given birth 24 hours ago.

I think she's naturally pretty anyway so would have looked fine make up free with her hair tied up. I'm wondering if she requested it or if it was ordered she was to look her shining best to leave?

If she hadn't done people would have criticised her for not making an effort!

If people are going to slag her off, they may as well do it because she looks good, rather than because she looks just like everyone else shortly after giving birth.

It was probably the last thing she wanted in reality.

Of for God's sake. Like you wouldn't want to look your best if you were going to be in a picture seen by billions and over hundreds of years?

Can you imagine the cruxificion she would have had from certain sections of the media if she'd gone out wearing a tracksuit with unbrushed hair and sick on her shoulder? She can't win really can she?

To be honest even immediately after I'd had my baby I only really felt looking like that in private. And to be honest it wasn't like she was groomed to within an inch of her life, she looked relaxed and casual, you could still see her bump.

Incidentally it was probably much quicker and more practical to have in hairdressers and make up artists who could do it much quicker than Kate could on her own.

Well as OK are already planning her weight loss I wouldn't want to fuel any other unpleasantness.

I know I will make sure I have my hair looking ok snd a bit of makeup before anyone other than my oh or mum see me after birth, I'm just more comfortable that way :)

That's what I'm getting at Folkgirl - thank you. I wondering if she really wanted it done or did it because of who she is.

Two hours after I'd given birth to ds1, I 'd had a bath, washed my hair and put on make up. I was so relieved that I hadn't died (it really hurt and I knew it would, but hadn't quite expected just how much ), that I was really full of energy and wanted to look good in the photos.

yabu. most women don't have hordes of camera's waiting for them outside the hospital, or know that they'll be on the front of every paper.

Actually I thought she looked really natural. Tired excited and new amazed. I didn't think she had a hair dresser in her hair just looked brushed through. Whee did you read that she had a hairdresser in? Was it paper/magazine? If so I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

I think if most women were offered a free hair dresser to come and do their hair before they left hospital they would jump at the chance....I know I certainly would have. I had family members waiting at home for me when I got home I would have loved to have gone home looking even half as nice as Kate did...

also I'm sure if she had come out with ratty hair scraped back there would be a thread on here today criticizing her for that too Angry

To be fair she was about to face the world's press so of course she would want to look her best. As others have said, these pictures were going to be beamed around the world and would come back to haunt her for years to come. Surely it's best to be realistic about that and just prepare herself for the situation she's about to encounter.

I'm sure many of us will remember "those" pictures of Cherie Blair opening her door in her nightie with her hair askew. I'm sure she would have been happier to have looked a little better!

I may be anti-monarchy, but at the end of the day she's a young woman who's just had her first baby - the last thing she needs is to be criticised for her appearance.

I have to say, she looked stunning.

Perhaps the 'poor woman' wanted a hairdresser because she couldn't be arsed to do her own hair?

How many of us really need to be pampered anyway?

Many of us see having hair done as a treat. I don't know why you see her as any different?

I don't think it was a choice, just as much as parading her newborn for the world to see wasn't her choice. Comes with the job role, the royals are expected to look perfect and do their duty, I'm sure she' d much rather be in her sweats with her hair scraped back enjoying her baby, not being trotted out for photo opportunities

I don't see her as any different - that's my point. She might be a royal and press waiting but the poor woman has just had a baby. I just hope they now will give the three of them time to bond without forcing camera lenses in their faces at every opportunity. Obviously that's never going to happen - which is a shame really but I suppose it's part and parcel of being part of the royal family.

Well of course there was no need but you could say that about a vast number of things people do.

Personally I would have loved someone to come and wash and blow dry my hair for me after giving birth. If I had the cash I'd pay for it, world media or not.

I did notice that her hair didn't look as polished as usual although it was obvious she had some work done on it.

She had several (hundred) times the number of cameras pointed at her that most of us do at our weddings. I would have wanted someone to smarten up my hair too.

CocktailQueen · 24/07/2013 10:58

The only thing I'd have done was tie her hair back - maybe just the top bit - she kept having to push it out of her eyes and tuck it behind her ears. She looked lovely :) She has boobs now!

Leftoversunday I think it is really awful for you to scrutinise Kate's appearance after she has had a baby and judge her for having a hair dresser.

Report
noblegiraffe · 24/07/2013 10:59

If she had looked a bit of a state you'd have had the DM & co pronouncing that Kate was 'struggling' with the demands of a new baby and should rethink her decision not to employ a nanny.

Of course she wanted to look her best in front of the world. It's hard enough being pregnant and feeling fat and frumpy, then having a post-baby tummy and feeling knackered and sore without having billions of photos taken for the world to see.

Who didn't carefully vet their post child photo before uploading to Facebook?

If someone wanted to come in and smarten me up before leaving the hospital without me having to lift a finger then I'm all for it! Grin. She was definitely giving off the proud mummy glow.

YABU - I couldnt be arsed doing my hair but I would have loved for someone else to pop in and sort me out! Oh, and how many other postbirth women have the world's media photographing them 24 hours after giving birth.

Report
AllThatGlistens · 24/07/2013 11:01

Unfortunately for her she is going to have the whole world picking apart everything about her, any woman having given birth knows what a vulnerable time it is, and having to face that enormous press pack with a tiny newborn?? I'd have wanted not to have to worry that they'd tear me apart for not making an effort alongside the other million things they'll find to pick over.

Report
WorraLiberty · 24/07/2013 11:05

Why do you keep calling he a 'poor woman' OP?

It's quite patronising.

When I had my first DC I was elated. I did my own hair and make up less than an hour after he was born and couldn't wait to get out of hospital to show him off.

Not all women who give birth are 'poor' or feel hard done by.
