to lose it at this angry woman who criticised my parking.

So i was in town this morning with the Q7 (or the panzer tank as I call it) and i pulled up to a space. I reversed in a few times but i was always a bit squint. Eventually i left the car squint but still in the bay. I let out my kids and just while i locked the car this woman came over.

she said i should go back and straighten the car out because it was squint. I told her that if she had a q7 i would like to see her park it in such a tight space. She thought i was suggesting that she didn't have a big car because she was poor. i wasn't suggesting that at all. so she went into a long rant about me being disrespectful. i was shocked .

but i didn't shout too much cause i had two kids with me.

aibu to be annoyed at her.

I think 'the whole point' of the thread will become less and less obvious...

bobbypercy1 · 22/07/2013 15:19

just to add it was a parallel parking space.

Does everyone in your village have a 4x4 or do others cope without?

Pagwatch · 22/07/2013 15:19

Haha at large jugs!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/07/2013 15:20

What about a Zafira or W-max?

Ha ha ha, that comment cracked me up. Given the choice I know which car i'd drive.

JollyHolidayGiant · 22/07/2013 15:21

Around here, every second family has a Q7 a Discovery or a Cayenne and we're not far from the OP. Our doctor's surgery has recently painted new, skinny bays in their car park and it is a nightmare trying to get into the spaces when there's a huge car on either side.

We drive a Berlingo which is a bugger to park, but it has sliding doors which make life so much easier.

Parking within the lines at any angle is fine with me.

LadyBryan · 22/07/2013 15:21

Ok if you're within the lines and squint, two corners of your car are nearer the lines than they should be. So someone comes and parks properly and goes about their business, come back and you've parked and it is very hard to get into the car.

Someone did it to me at 8 months pregnant. I was in a car park, back at my vehicle and had to argue and argue with the parking attendant not to ticket me because I was back at my vehicle well within the time, but couldn't physically get into my car. Eventually a very kind man pulled my car out for me to enable me to leave.

well about 1/4 of neighbours have a 4x4. but when the village is cut off the 4x4 owners drive to the nearest open shop and collect groceries for cut off neighbours. it works really well.

Q7 -bloody hell, I paid less than they cost for my last house

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/07/2013 15:22

Rushes down to patent office with Pag's idea.

To be honest, when the dc's were really small, DH never seemed to want to travel with us anyway. I just can't imagine why Wink

I personally think all 7 seaters should come with one of those glass screens like taxis have. My car journeys would be so much more pleasurable with one of those.

macreturnofthe · 22/07/2013 15:24

Q7 looks awesome - would love one.....
although it does kinda look like it should be able to park itself

roundtable · 22/07/2013 15:24

We've a 5 seater renault scenic and can fit 3 car seats in the back.

Op, sounds like she didn't like the cut of your jib. I'm not sure whether she was unreasonable or not.

ViviPru · 22/07/2013 15:24

Twitchy at the mere thought of the exchange between these two humans.

It being a parallel parking space does make your misdemeanour somewhat less irksome, though OP.

PlatinumStart · 22/07/2013 15:26

Hmm getting the impression we're supposed to be impressed with the Q7 ownership....

FWIW my car is bigger than a Q7 and its a hell of a lot easier to park than DH's sports car ( natch Wink !) all the cameras and alarms make it near impossible to fuck it up.

As for the OP I'm not sure I really care - but the repeated reference to the car by model has made me snigger

giddywithglee · 22/07/2013 15:26

TBH I don't blame you for having a 4x4 in rural Scotland.

We live in a small market town in Herts where everyone (not me!) drives Cayennes, Range Rovers and Q7s and parks them badly, so I'm biased against 4x4 drivers, sorry!

TarkaTheOtter · 22/07/2013 15:27

If it was a parallel parking space and you were within the lines then YANBU. Obviously would be better for you to be in line with the other cars to give more passing space but presumably the lines are drawn so people can get past.

Pennyacrossthehall · 22/07/2013 15:27

Just throwing in my 2p:

  • I hate the Chelsea Tractor phenomeon - SUVs bought by people who consider "off-roading" to be parking on the school playing fields on sports day (I'm givign you a tentative OK on this aspect because of Braemar . . . )
  • Q7's are ridiculously oversized, even by SUV standards
  • However, parking a car is parking a car, the size is not really relevant if you can park. It's just a bigger rectangle to maneuver into the space.

i need a big car beccause i have 3 kids. and if i need to give freinds a lift its got 7 seats
No matter how many times I read the above, it still doesn't make sense. Confused

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 22/07/2013 15:30

When I first read the OP I thought you were talking about one of these

But then I realised I got the number wrong...so now I see that you've got a big flash car that you can't park. Big woo.

SlangWhanger · 22/07/2013 15:33

Blimey, I love the snidey comments on this thread. The OP has a big car and isn't great at parking it - it's hardly crime of the century! She does not have to justify it.

OP, I would have just ignored her and not let it bother me. She sounds like she was a bit crabby and judgey a bit like some of the posters on this thread

Ps I drive a small van with no parking sensers and am brilliant at parallel parking

bobbypercy1 · 22/07/2013 15:34

slangwhanger

agree completely

I've only got this far in the thread, at this point I'd like to point out that a Prius+ seats seven, and I think you can get it with a computer that will do the steering while you park.

(Though I would guess most Audis are available with similar parking help.)
