So i was in town this morning with the Q7 (or the panzer tank as I call it) and i pulled up to a space. I reversed in a few times but i was always a bit squint. Eventually i left the car squint but still in the bay. I let out my kids and just while i locked the car this woman came over.

she said i should go back and straighten the car out because it was squint. I told her that if she had a q7 i would like to see her park it in such a tight space. She thought i was suggesting that she didn't have a big car because she was poor. i wasn't suggesting that at all. so she went into a long rant about me being disrespectful. i was shocked .

but i didn't shout too much cause i had two kids with me.

aibu to be annoyed at her.

I've got three kids, two dogs and drive a mini.
If people need lifts I say 'sorry. I drive a mini'

Learn how to park.

Come on, OP. Number of kids has nothing to do with it. I grew up with three siblings, two dogs and a cat and my parents crammed us all into a 2CV.

Your enormo-car is a twatmobile designed to crow your wealth and assumed space entitlement to the rest of the world.

I'm usually a right picky wanker about parking properly, but if you're in the lines, what is the problem?

So you left it slanted, so what? Confused

If it's in the lines, it won't inconvenience anyone else.

I would have gone with a passive-aggressive tone of great concern and explained that you'd parked inside the white line ... see, this one? ... which is marked out to help drivers know where to park. And thanks very much for her concern anyway.

Whatever your reasons for 'needing' such a car you should still be able to park it.

Big cars badly parked cause even more of an inconvenice to others than smaller cars.

A woman parks near me when she drops her DC at school. She also has a mini and a great Dane. The two dc sit in the bak and the great dane sits in the passenger seat.
It does look brilliant. She swears they are all happy.

If you park 'squint' it makes it harder for everyone else. Try driving into the space, not reversing.

My dad has a Q7, he has been driving for nearly 40 years, still cant park that thing, first day he got it he took the wing mirror off getting it in the drive!

Ah. Now that you have given your location OP YADNBU.

I once pulled slowly into a wide layby, halting mid manoeuvre to politely let a pedestrian cross in front of me. She started banging on my car, I opened the window and she spewed out a rant about my dangerous and inconsiderate driving and how I shouldn't be allowed on the road. It was quite bizarre, but not the only time something like that has happened to me in the area.

I know the type. Perhaps its even the same woman, or a relative.

Pag - I can't wait to downsize to a smaller car but needed 7 seater to get 3 car seats along the back oh and fit DH in occasionally too.

YABU for driving a car you can't park, but unless the woman was in a space either side of you she shouldn't tell you off. I can see her point though, as I'm sick of people parking their unneccessarily massive 4x4s and 7 seaters in the tiny spaces in our local supermarket (which only has 4 parent and child spaces). Every time I come back to my car I find someone has parked their enormous car next to me and I can't get my baby's car seat back in the car. Harumph!

Report
giddywithglee · 22/07/2013 15:12

PS there are other 7-seaters that aren't anywhere near as gas-guzzling or enormous - what about a Vauxhall Zafira or a Ford W-Max?

"...i need a big car beccause i have 3 kids.."

No. You don't.

You choose to have a stupidly overweight, unweildy car.

Oh come on.

There was no reason to reiterate so many times which car it was.

Tbh, you want everyone to know you have a nice, new expensive car. That's good for you.
I think people should have whatever car they like and can afford.

However, to drive a car like that and not be able to park it is quite simply ridiculous. And it makes you sound like a caricature of a poor little women who has this lovely expensive car, but oh goodness me, I cannot park it, whatever shall I do? Ill just park it in a way to obstruct other people because I couldn't possibly park such a big expensive car all alone.

If you can't handle that size car, get a ford focus
And don't give anyone a lift.

Like LRD, I'm a fucker for parking properly. But in the lines is in the lines.

As long as you're not over the line I don't see how it affects the ability of the person who wants to park next to you to park properly. If you were on the line, fair enough.

Checked out the link, that's a very nice car btw.

So you need a tank of a car because you've got 3 kids? Blimey. How do other people manage? YABU.

Report
LadyBryan · 22/07/2013 15:15

The thing is, you may leave it, but by being squint chances are even if you're in the lines you're going to inconvenience people either side of you.

I'm afraid I'm of the train of thought that if you can't park it, you shouldn't drive it.

If a car is parked at an angle then it has to be very close to the lines on one side which makes it hard/impossible for the car next to it.

It really isn't hard to park a car straight between 2 lines. If you can't you need an easier to manoeuvre car!

tantrums

i wasn't obstructing anyone. i was within the lines. the whole point is this random woman berating me on something that has nothing to do with her and tbh isn't a big deal anyway.

Don't worry MrsCB. I expect Pag just lashes him onto the back on a pair of roller skates.

Now, back to the matter at hand. Op have you tried the bus? Absolutely no parking and you can take lots of friends and children and dogs. I like to breast feed when I go on the bus - whether the baby needs a feed or not. The old dears LOVE IT. I always get a supportive eye roll as well when I take the buggy on.
