To peg my washing out over night

I am new to this, but as I am saving any way I can to get out of debt ASAP I bought a washing line. ( saved £7 this week by not using the tumble dryer)

So do I peg out my washing tonight.

I have recently pegged mine out overnight due to being confident tomorrow is going to be fine.

My mum would have been horrified!!!

However, she had her garage converted into a garden room and had a line in there where she would peg washing out overnight. So I can only assume she was ok with it as long as nobody could see it :)

Does the night smell then? I like the night air? I don't do it but I think now I just might luckily not overlooked by anyone so I might even do it in the nude too and scare the bats Wink

No! It will be all cobwebby and spidery in the morning. I put mine out first thing in the morning for that reason.

Doesn't really matter if it rains, the rain will soften the clothes...

Still not getting the lazy/slovenly thing Hmm
Why is it lay to put washing out at 8pm and collect in at 8 am but not lazy to put it out at 8am and collect in at 8pm? Confused

i leave it out overnight. mostly its already dry by the time i go to bed but im too lazy to bring it in. i do sometimes worry the neighbours will think im common not really sure why must be an old fashioned thing that's been passed down.
also leave my curtains closed and have no blind in the kitchen so if they can see in there they already know im a lazy slob anyway.

I hang mine up on an indoor airing frame overnight & then put the frame outside before I leave for work.

I hang my bedsheets over the banisters overnight so its practically dry & wrinkle free in the morning.

I'm always leaving washing on the line overnight, but my line can't be seen by my neighbours and I wouldn't give a flying fig what they thought anyway.

My last load of towels has just been brought in after being on the line for three days because I couldn't be bothered to get them & it has been so sunny.

Proper slattern, me Grin.

Maidens? Never heard of that! Makes my winter dyke sound awful but it's dyke as in wall

Why would it smell funny? Washing pegged out over night smells freshest Trufax.

OMG! If I put out my washing in the nude I think the poor bats may die of shock. (Protected species too!)
The birds stay well clear of prowling cats but the bats do a figure of eight round the garden at twilight. Lovely but I'm not keen on getting bat guano out of my knickers!

Airers? Maidens? Its a clothes horse!

I put my washing out at night, couldn't care less what the neighbours think. Bloody line snapped one night though so was a bit miffed at that.

I don't, but not because I think it's slovenly (it's not) or because it'll smell (it won't) but because I'll be asleep and thus won't be able to go and fetch it in if it should unexpectedly rain. Probably not much chance of that tonight though so go for it!

Is it seriously considered common to hang washing on a line at night???? Shock. I'm obviously as common as muck, but can someone please explain why?

Check your \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/\weather forecast} about 19.00 before you put on that last load. Just pop in your postcode and bookmark the resultant search. Extremely accurate - certainly for the next 24 hours.

I always do it when we have nice weather in summer. The clothes never smell weird at all.

Why have I never ever hung my washing out at night? Why has this idea never even entered my head? That would save me running around like a headless chicken in a morning trying to get everything done?

It's considered common to peg your washing out and not be arsed to bring it in at night I thought? (i.e. It's dry but still out there).

As to putting it out at night, I'm in Scotland so most of the time with the dew point, temperature etc. it's just not very efficient - you get much better drying through the day.

I've never hung my washing out at night, but have stuck the clothes horse up overnight on many am occasion (in fact it's a bit of a fixture outwith the 5mins we get good weather.. )

Mine is out now. It's dry but I can't be bothered to stumble around in the dark to bring it in. I'll even leave it out if it rains before it is dry. It doesn't seem to smell so I don't re-wash it. I must be really, really common.

McNewPants2013 · 10/07/2013 23:07

Pegged it out and I don't care if I am common, because I am common folk.

I'm not lazy as I am out of the door at 6am ( should go to sleep but the fan is driving me nuts)

But whyyyy PosyNarker?? Who actually looks over the fence and keeps tabs on the contents of next door's washing line? Mrs. Bouquet?

I do if it's going to be fine.

But bear in mind that colours will be exposed to a lot of sunshine, but not much heat, so it may cause them to fade more quickly. So, perhaps only hang out whites overnight, if you can help it.

I love hanging washing out when it's fine. It's one of life's little pleasures.
