To peg my washing out over night

McNewPants2013 · 10/07/2013 20:11

I am new to this, but as I am saving any way I can to get out of debt ASAP I bought a washing line. ( saved £7 this week by not using the tumble dryer)

So do I peg out my washing tonight.

I always peg out in my jammies!

Jojo3973 · 10/07/2013 20:42

I was ironing a load I'd left out all night and a massive moth fell out of a pair of trousers, then ironed something lumpy in dd's cardigan sleeve and it too was a massive moth. Won't be leaving washing out at night again!!

ParadiseChick · 10/07/2013 20:42

A clothes horse, a winter dyke...

The metal things that pop up that you hang washing on inside

McNewPants2013 · 10/07/2013 20:42

I tend to peg out in my pj as then all the clothes are washed

Sorry, don't understand why it might be considered common. Anyone?
ANd spiders make webs during the day, too Confused
Just hang your washing out, OP.

ParadiseChick · 10/07/2013 20:43

Jojo just stop ironing, problem solved!

McNewPants2013 · 10/07/2013 20:43

Off to google ready for when the rain comes.

i put mine out at night, i hate standing out in the heat doing it, and i get it back in, in the morning before the sun comes round, and i live in scotland, wouldnt do it if it were to be raining though

MrsMelons · 10/07/2013 20:45

I always put mine out overnight in the hot weather as I leave for work at 645 so don't have time in the morning. It never smells when dry.

beatofthedrum · 10/07/2013 20:45

What? Of course you can. I do all the time. Am neither common nor stinky!

MrsMelons · 10/07/2013 20:46

I also pegged mine out in my PJs tonight and the neighbour came to talk to me Blush they were short playsuit style ones too Blush - we have no fences!!!

cozietoesie · 10/07/2013 20:47

I've done 6 loads today (and dried all but two pieces) and have another load on right now. It will be hung out overnight (no rain forecast) and I should just be able to squeeze in another load for hanging out before i go to bed.

Go for it, OP. With this weather, it may be your only chance to wash and dry some of the stuff you couldn't do over the winter. (Curtains etc.)

kalidanger · 10/07/2013 20:47

I too don't understand not hanging ones washing out over night. Slovenly?? That's a joke, surely?

But aside from that - I think it's going to rain in London tonight.

Is this an indoor airer.

ParadiseChick · 10/07/2013 20:49

Indoor airers

Surprised you've never heard of them, permanent feature in my house from november to april give or take the odd blowy day!

quoteunquote · 10/07/2013 20:51

Three loads out, If I know it is not going to rain over night I always hang it out, (so do my neighbours, not that you can see really),

I leave really early in the morning, and by the time I am back it's really hot and I am busy, and having a home office procrastinating is a really danger, things like hanging out washing are really tempting.

anyway I always hang it out in colour order so it makes me happy.

I turn down the spin cycle when it is dry and hot on the machine as I object to paying for something that I can have for free, it always dry the following afternoon anyway.

and you can never have enough pegs.

TheFalconsmistress · 10/07/2013 20:51

I just hung a load out, surely you would be more of a slattern to leave it damp in a basket till the morning? Never found indoor airer good at all outsides always better than in or tumble dried Confused

McNewPants2013 · 10/07/2013 20:53

When younger my mum had a coal fire with the ugliest fire guard and 12 radiators to dry washing for a family of 9.

When I moved out DH flat was fully furnished which come complete with a tumble dryer.

Slovenly is to be excessively casual/ careless / messy.

Not a joke, it's frigging lazy to not bring your washing in.

Good lord.

MrsMelons · 10/07/2013 20:57

I have 2 indoor heated airers, they are fab. They are much cheaper than a tumble dryer, I have one you can hang shirts in and then one you hang stuff over.

catgirl1976 · 10/07/2013 20:58

I've just pegged mine out

YANBU

kalidanger · 10/07/2013 20:59

Lazy to leave washing out while it dries? What?

JoyceDivision · 10/07/2013 21:03

Our lane is the night time pegging out brigade Grin

Better than rushing to peg out before work and school run in morning, and it being sat overnight damp and going a bit stinky.

Ready to be ironed and put away when get home. I've pegged out about half an hour ago, will iron tomorrow eve when back from work

threepiecesuite · 10/07/2013 21:05

I've never owned or used a tumble dryer in my life
I just be organised and wait for stuff to dry. If it's damp, wear something else. It seems to have worked out ok so far.

My washing is out overnight. And 2 airers (except I call them maidens)

VitoCorleone · 10/07/2013 21:08

I dont for 2 reasons.

  1. if i did it would probably rain overnight and id have to wash it again

  2. last time i left the washing out at night somebody stole DPs tracksuit bottoms
