To ask you on average when do "babies" STTN

SunMoonStarship · 04/05/2013 21:47

DC1 slept through from 5 months. DC2 (11 months) wakes multiple times. I recently read somewhere that only 50% of 9 month old babies sleep through the night (STTN).

I'm exhausted and desperate for sleep. Luckily DH and I have family to help out and take the kids so we get a break.

But I was wondering what the average age was for babies STTN. I've heard it's 6 months but the stats above disagree with this.

I know all babies are different (look at my two DCs!) but basically, if I knew it was likely DC2 would STTN by 12 months or 18 months or something, then I would be able to see through this sleep deprived fog.

So AIBU to ask you when you're DCs STTN?

Thanks

DS is 3.5, most nights he wakes up at least twice, every so often a miracle happens and he sleeps through

HollyBerryBush · 04/05/2013 21:51

Six weeks, all three. Umm, DS3 was 5 weeks.

catgirl1976 · 04/05/2013 21:52

10 months after using controlled crying

FadBook · 04/05/2013 21:53

DD was 19 months when we finally had a 10.30pm - 7am 'sleep through' (going down at 7pm but waking for a settle around 10.30).

She still wakes once or twice a week in the night now (lost dummy, cuddle, dream etc)

I think every child is different

ShirazSavedMySanity · 04/05/2013 21:53

DD from 17 weeks.
DS - I'm still waiting. He's 2yrs 7 months now....,....

I think the consensus is that it varies hugely. DD was 'sleeping through' from around 8 months if you count waking up at 5am!!

Emsmaman · 04/05/2013 21:56

Did two years old doesnt sleep through. However between staying at friends houses and frank discussions with mums I also have learn that I am the only person I know in real life that doesnt leave their child to cry. Several I know use ear plugs. So I no longer pay attention to those who say they sleep through other night - I think it means theory no longer respond during the night!

Emsmaman · 04/05/2013 21:56

Sorry for the auto corrects...

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2013 21:56

DS (4) - did 11pm to 6am at 9 weeks and has subsequently always been a champion sleeper.
DD (19 months) - Well, we went to a cranial osteopath today to see if she could help us with the multiple night time wakings.

IsThatTrue · 04/05/2013 21:58

Ear plugs at night? Shock what if the dcs needed something? I can't imagine doing that!

SunMoonStarship · 04/05/2013 21:58

Thank you all so much. I'm thinking 18 months. Not sure why. But at least it gives me something to work towards!

15 months here. Was hard but feel I may have been one of the lucky ones judging by the answers on this thread.

Emsmaman · 04/05/2013 22:00

I think the theory is if they are crying loudly it will pierce through, if its a grumble it won't wake the parents...we still have the baby monitor and dd is in thge next room.

Niklepic · 04/05/2013 22:01

DD1 and DS were about 5 months. DD2 is 16 weeks and has just started to sleep through. She goes to bed around 8-ish and we wake her for a feed at 11pm. She generally sleeps then until around 6am.

fancyabakeoff · 04/05/2013 22:01

All three of mine - 27, 23 and 11- all slept through at 6-8 weeks. Last feed at 10 p.m. and would generally not wake again until 6-7 a.m.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 04/05/2013 22:03

my youngest slept through from day one. In fact, when we brought him home from the hospital, my husband was so worried about how much he was sleeping that he woke him up Grin

This is because our eldest - a mere 15 months older had not at that point slept for more than 2 hours during any single night in his entire little life.

HootShoot · 04/05/2013 22:04

Our dd has just started sleeping through in the last couple of weeks, she's 18 months.

Mamafratelli · 04/05/2013 22:05

Dd 7 til 7 from 12 weeks

Ds 7 til 7 from 6 weeks

Not helpful sorry, I sympathise because I love sleep.
