AIBU?

To ask you on average when do "babies" STTN

DC1 slept through from 5 months. DC2 (11 months) wakes multiple times. I recently read somewhere that only 50% of 9 month old babies sleep through the night (STTN).

I'm exhausted and desperate for sleep. Luckily DH and I have family to help out and take the kids so we get a break.

But I was wondering what the average age was for babies STTN. I've heard it's 6 months but the stats above disagree with this.

I know all babies are different (look at my two DCs!) but basically, if I knew it was likely DC2 would STTN by 12 months or 18 months or something, then I would be able to see through this sleep deprived fog.

So AIBU to ask you when you're DCs STTN?

Thanks

DD1 8 weeks
DD2 6 weeks

I really didn't know now lucky I was! My nephew is 10 and I can count on one hand the number of unbroken nights sleep his mum has managed.

DD 8.5mo and still exclusively BF. Recently night-weaned and some sleep training - has gone 7pm until 5 or 6am this week with no wake-ups for resettling.

Great sleeper before 4 mo regression. Then we had tough few months with teething/cold etc. so this week has been a big relief.

dd1: 6.5 mo, after a couple of nights of sleep training. she is 6 now and sleeps like she's dead. if she wakes in the night she's invariably very poorly.
dd2: still waking most nights at 2.6y despite a bit of sleep training and cutting night feeds. i think we had a period from about 18-22 mo when she slept through, but she got bored with that.

Dd was 3.5. DS is 3 and still wakes at least once to climb in with me and snuggle.

DD slept through from day one - this caused feeding problems though so I had to set my alarm for the middle of the night to wake her up to feed.

DS slept through from about 3 (years) and still wakes up very early.

DC1 occasional nights from about 8 weeks, consistently from 6 months (after using pick up put down for naps).

DC2 from about 12 weeks to 6 months. Thereafter woke 3/4/5/6 times a night and would get up at 5AM. Started sleeping through again at 2 yrs.

DS1 was 10 months, DS2 still doesn't (nearly 3) and DD is nowhere near yet (10 weeks). Surprising how little sleep you can get used to!

8 weeks for both, that was from 7pm to 6.30/7am. No ear plugs or ignoring or whiskey or rice, both breastfed.

They both only woke up once a night before that, I really struggle to know how people cope.

DS is 3.2 he has slept 7-7ish for a year. From 18m it was only normally one night waking. He was bfed until 21 months so I do think weaning from the breast and sleeping through are connected.

DD is 13 months. She slept in two long chunks until 4 months. I thought I'd been gifted a sleeper but it all went to shit after the four month sleep regression. I don't want to do sleep training so am going to continue to cosleep and ride it out.

DD1 - just over a year, although she then went through a long phase of believing 5am was a respectable time to get up. And from about 6 months or so it was only 1 wake up per night, maximum 2.

DD2 is a whole different story, did midnight to 7am for a while around 12 weeks or so. Then we moved house/continent & the jet lag messed things up, and the food allergies kicked in and she was waking every 45 minutes!
At 20 months she now goes from 8 to 5am about every second night and then back to sleep til 7. Even though she's up at least twice the other night, I'm like a new woman Grin

DS was 3 and 3 months for 4 hours without waking (I was 6 months pregnant with DD by then) and just unfer 4 before he slept from 8PM to about 5:30AM.
DD was doing 4 hour stints by 3 months and properly through the night 7:15PM -7:30AM by 6 months.

Both were Breastfed for between 6 and 9 months btw.

From 6 weeks. But at 10 months went through a phase of waking at midnight and had to take her downstairs to play pulling herself up to stand holding on to furniture.
That lasted only a few weeks. Then around 6 months later woke up in the middle of the night, so put a bottle of watered down juice next to her and would hear her sucking away on it and went back to sleep.
I didn't have to get up.

My 2 DC (DD 3yo & DS 25wo) both slept from about 8pm until 7am ish at 19wo. I did a dream feed for DD for quite a while but recently stopped with DS after he went all night 2 nights running, as I was too tired to feed him before bed. However, the last couple of nights he's woken at 5.20 for a feed & then slept again until gone 7. Both bf.

DS did do a few all-night sleeps at 10wks but that was just a blip sadly. He is still not consistent but it could be worse.

Although some babies sleep through earlier, I've always felt lucky that my dc have usually been in bed for 11 or 12hrs, waking for 1 or 2 feeds only in that time, from about 9wo. By that I mean, they will sleep, feed, go straight back to sleep. They've not been ones to wake & think 3am is play time. They also nap well. In fact DD still does at least 1.5hrs every day (unless we're out etc), & she just turned 3y. It's swings & roundabouts though I guess, because they have a relatively late bedtime...

I don't mean to imply I was feeding DD at 3yo although if that's your bag, that's up to you more that at an equivalent age to DS now, DD was getting a dream feed...Blush
