AIBU?

To only wash my bedding ...

Every 2 weeks?

King size and junior double sheets, duvet cover etc., which I iron. Plus spare bed maybe every 4 weeks (me/DH spend the odd night when we are having problems sleeping/have visitors staying over). Can't understand how other mums manage to get everything washed, dried and ironed in a week?!

Am I manky?

Weekly...one of the reasons is I like the smell especially line dried and I would feel manky any longer

I dont routinely iron, though I do have cotton top sheets that are embroidered and iron them at the top as they shrink in

I believe someone on MN once sais six months for a change..wonder if that is Stangirl

When I'm rich, I will employ someone to change my bed every day, so I get into clean, fresh crisp sheets every night. Lovely!

I'm like Jackie Kennedy.

I insist on clean sheets twice a day.

not really

P.S. I don't get why people iron bed linen. Then again, I don't get why people iron. I don't even own an iron.

I like ironing, just don't have time these days for anything but essentials.

Devora · 20/04/2013 22:41

Weekly, though I don't beat myself up if I have an extra-busy weekend and it gets left for another week occasionally.

Very important to turn back the bed every morning, though - and open the window. If I haven't been able to do those I feel very bleugh.

Never, ever iron bedlinen: truly, who has the time for this?

Devora · 20/04/2013 22:42

crashdoll, when my dd was about 3 she saw an iron and said incredulously, "Mummy, what's THAT?"

Shows how often she's seen me wielding one.

I want a special bed hoover. Where do I get one?

stan - arf at 'always changed if child or cat is sick on bedding'

MrsDeVere I am intrigued by your weapon of mass mite destruction. Can you link to it?

I change my bedding every week. I only have white cotton, and I wash it at 60, to KILL the mites. I do not iron. But - and here is the stroke of genius - I change my pillow case every day. So i get lineny freshness every night.

Ermmm, a litre weighs a kilo. I don't know anyone who loses 16kg a night!

Fortnightly. Even when DD has sicked up on it. Life's too short! Oh don't iron them either because I have an ironing lady

Oh MrsDV serious envy here. That sounds fricking amazing! Once you've hoovered a mattress with a see-through Hoover it's impossible not to get a bit obsessed.

Once a week ish here. No set routine but never go as long as 2 weeks. I don't have a tumble drier and only have one set of bedding for my bed but have never had an issue getting it washed and dried in a day. I just hang it over the landing, dries in no time.

DS is still in sleeping bags so change that and his sheet every 2 or 3 days. He has clean pjs every night though because I always think the have a whiff of wet nappy about them by the morning!

Weekly here for our bed, fortnightly or when there is a leak of some kind for the DCs.
Sometimes more frequently in the summer.

I don't iron bedding, I do occasionally send the pillowcases with the shirts for ironing if they are mega-crumpled, but not often.

I've lived in this house for 2 years and can almost remember every single time I've changed my bedding Grin

Kids are regularly done as I have a couple of bed wetters, occasional pukers and illicit dog smugglers Angry

Every few weeks I guess. I imagine everyone who washes theirs once a week or more has either a tumble drier or space to let it hang dry? We live in a flat with no outdoor space, no tumble dryer. Hate hate hate having to find space to dry the sheet and duvet cover, especially in winter!

Fleecyslippers · 20/04/2013 22:53

Meant to add, as kids, we had to change our bedding, including duvet covers EVERY day. I think my housework 'standards' are a direct result of that.

I used to do mine daily when dp and i used to sex every night and got messy now it's probably once a month if that Blush we just sleep in our manky bed because neither of us cba to change it it should be twice a week tho - that's how often i do the dcs unless ds has peed or puked or spilt milk etc..

please go back to page one and click on the link someone gave about sweating at night

YOU DO NOT SWEAT 1 LITRE per night. Not unless you sleep in a very hot room, or suffer form night sweats. And the liquid given off at night is mostly breathed out, so unless your head is under the duvet, it doesn't go onto your bedding.

And lots of those statistics about dust mites etc are banded about by people selling matresses.

More than once a week = anal

Once a week = decent and proper and the natural order of things

Once a fortnight = pleasingly laid back and bohemian

Less than once a fortnight = fiendish slattern

Report
Ummofumbridge · 20/04/2013 23:19

I'm a fiendish slattern.
I usually aim for once a month but sometimes its a lot more often sometimes a bit less Blush
Definitely more often in the Summer though and I don't iron anything.

Devora succinct and spot on.

I suggest posting that as the first reply on all the bed changing threads then none of us would need to bother posting!

When I lived alone, couldn't afford to put the heating on in the bedroom and wore jogging bottoms and a fleece on bed, I could go for months without washing them - my body did not touch the sheets, ever, so they just didn't get dirty.

Now I'm married and sleep naked (sorry, TMI) it's still only once a month Blush. I know it's not enough, but I just can't be arsed doing them more often. Maybe if I had a tumble drier...
