to be annoyed when parents send their DC's with a bag full of sweets and chocolate when they come to our house for tea?

WHY??
I will provide your child a snack. Hey, sometimes I even bake some biscuits or something. I would never dream of sending food with my DC if they have been invited somewhere.

I have now adopted the strategy of sending food back unopened and uneaten with an "it's ok I made cakes" and hope I don't offend but the message might get through.

Sending things back is beyond rude, note or no note - do they still visit you, Venus?

If someone brought chocolates to a dinner party you wouldn't hand them back at the end saying ' we didn't need them' , so I don't know why children are different.

Yes they do Fangs - and they come without the bags of crap now, AND they have learnt that they can actually PLAY in my house: even make a mess with paint and glitter INSIDE if they want to, not just stuff their whey coloured faces with crap and sit quietly in front of the telly, like they do at home (I ask questions, see)! A win win.

Regarding gifts - if someone brings wine to a dinner party and it doesn't go with what we are having, I'll serve what I have prepared rather than the bottle they have brought. If it's nice I'll serve it another time - if it's not particularly nice, I'll re-gift it: same with chocs etc.

Exactly Venus, but the one thing that you don't do is give it back to them at the end of the evening.

Coming to this thread rather late but I think it's staggeringly rude and snooty to send the child home with the sweets with a note on them! WTF??

I can imagine my dh and I saying 'Jesus Christ, another insane parent to avoid like the plague'
