Standing in a busy queue with dd 4yrs (who is small/average) she accidently stepped on the lady' toe. I saw so i immediately said "sorry" and said to dd she should be careful and stand still. The woman turned and looked at dd then growled said in a nice voice "ouch that was my toe". Shw paid for her things then made a point of limping away. Now if that qas you and you already had a broken toe/foot/poorly foot then i'm sorry but it wwas truly just an accident otherwise aibu to think that was a massive overreaction and the woman was a complete cow a bit harsh and really upset my dd?

and forget all about it!

How do you know she 'made a point' of limping away? She could have been hurt.

If your DD had apologised for herself, perhaps the lady might have said "That's ok" and grimaced through the pain?

I think some people do make a big drama out of things tbh. I was in a shop the other week and DS suddenly legged it away from me and I said 'X, come back' and a man started making a big fuss saying I spoke too loudly and had made him jump. I did apologise but I didn't shout, just spoke loudly and firmly.

the lady may have been diabetic ... your flat footed heffalump might have caused her to get gangrene and loose a toe.

I can't see what the big deal is here. It's not as if the woman yelled at the child.

The lady was kind of standing sideways. Dd would have apologised herself if the woman hadnt reacted so quickly and angrily and if she wasnt only 4 and shy.
worra im not annoyed as such just reflecting on the day. Dd wasnt running around just fidgeting in a long queue and i think the woman could have been a little less aggressive. I did apologise and tell dd to take more care, even though i am now hoping she does get gangrene

Ok, now YABU. You have no idea whether the woman was hurt or not. If I was absolutely sure that she wasn't just trying to joke I would feel terrible that someone had been hurt.

If she reacted so quickly then it sounds like she may have had an injured toe, or a bunion, blister, arthritis, who knows. It does sound like your daughter did accidentally hurt her.

Dear lord she didn't make a big deal about it at all!

"Oy you, that was my toe. Why don't you keep your child under control. This is a queue, not a playground. It's really hurting me now...."

Some people are just grumpy! Don't take it personally - there might have been a million reasons why she was in a bad mood not related to your DD. I don't think a little girl accidentally treading on your toe warrants a fierce response (unless she has gout!)

Some woman glared really nastily at my DD in a shop the other day, because she wasn't looking where she was going and I asked her to look out as there was a trolley coming. She ended up stopping to one side of this woman's trolley - didn't touch her, no harm done, she hadn't been running/ making a noise - in fact she'd avoided bumping into the woman, who could very easily have then continued to move on past my DD. But the woman stopped dead and glared at my DD as if she was a nasty smell. I just smiled at DD and said "well done for stopping :-)" and we carried on shopping.

When people are grumpy like that, especially towards a small child who wasn't doing anything malicious, it can be quite upsetting. But I agree with the PP who advised and to forget it!

Ok as i said in my op if she was hurt (because she gad a bunion,broken toe etc) then of course i was sorry on behalf of dd who was taken a back and only 4 and a bit shy. I did apologise. Dd was under control just moving from foot to foot in a busy queue. It wasnt a quick "ouch" it was a quick full on stare and in your face telling off response. I dont think it was appropriate for a small child

I have a broken toe currently. When my OWN DC stand on it they get growled at. Or I yelp. And I AM limping. I may well growl if other people's DC stand on it too. From pain. Mostly because a broken toe FUCKING HURTS when it is trodden on.

I'm just glad I know it wasn't me, as I haven't been shopping today!
