This morning when I checked into my facebook wall a large picture of a beef tortilla was posted on it from a Youth hostel. I am friends with this YouthHostel having stayed there with family some years ago and had a lovely time. I go because it (and others) are self catering and outdooorsy) I felt sick- I am a hindu vegetaria. I asked the hostelmanager to remove the picture from my wall but instead the hostel defriended me 'for my own protection' AM I unreasonable to think a youth hostelling association should stick to pictures of the outdoors and hostel events and avoid posting stuff which could upset people of different cultures?

...gah, animal fail. Last time I post in a sleep deprived state!

OlympicRingSting · 13/07/2012 22:57

May as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb...

VivaLeBeaver · 13/07/2012 23:02

Jammy dodgers aren't vegetarian are they? Or am I getting jam. Iced up with jelly? If they're not vegi would everyone stop posting Biscuit

Think of the children!

hopkinette · 13/07/2012 23:02

Suicide is still an option.

OlympicRingSting · 13/07/2012 23:07

KLAXON
KLAXON
HAVE SOME Wine (most vegetarians conveniently overlook the fact that wine contains animal products.....)

Gauchita · 13/07/2012 23:07

Oh my Grin Catgirl, you have made me cry with laughter Grin

OP, as a former vegetarian now pescetarian, I think you might have taken it too personally. Also, the picture might have appeared on your "feed" as opposed to your personal wall maybe? In any case, the "hide" option is always your friend.

catgirl1976 · 13/07/2012 23:14

Excellent work Buppy Grin excellent

SweetPopcorn · 13/07/2012 23:16

Right, I now feel the need to jump on a plane and gO to a Taco Bell. Who's with me??

Op, maybe next time stay at the Hotel Cattle-Farm-ia?

pictish · 13/07/2012 23:18

Aww...don't pork fun at the OP...she only chicken whether or not she's being unreasonable. What's everyone's beef with that? How offal! Poor sausage. Sad

rainydaysarebad · 13/07/2012 23:23

Maybe I misread but isn't op angry that a beef tortilla was posted on her wall and she's a Hindu? It's like someone posting a picture of a ham sandwich or pork roast on a Muslim or Jewish persons wall. Very poor form.

TapirBackRider · 14/07/2012 04:25

rainydays The OP is complaining that the YHA posted a pic of an item on their menu, which showed up in her news feed. OP was offended because she is a vegetarian, and the sight of it distressed her.

Aladdinsania · 14/07/2012 05:26

Catgirl: Oh my.

Aladdinsania · 14/07/2012 05:33

OP: 'Where's the beef?". [Sorry]

SecretPlace · 14/07/2012 09:48

Get a grip

TuftyFinch · 14/07/2012 09:59

Maybe you should start eating meat again. This would ensure you won't be offended by a rogue tortilla again.

Follyfoot · 14/07/2012 10:07

The post about the YHA only wanting 'beef loving' hostellers is making me howl.

We're on a Victoria Wood watch at work - looking out for phrases that could have come straight from one of her sketches. "Well I think they only want a certain kind of person at their youth hostel ie beef loving" is right up there.

yellowraincoat · 14/07/2012 10:12

I love that you think you're thick-skinned, OP, yet are offended by a picture of a tortilla.

I love that you specified it was a tortilla.

How much meat is even revealed in a tortilla anyway?

Do you have a breakdown if you walk past a butcher? Do you demand that they put up curtains so you aren't offended by the meat?

I'm offended by tie dye and if anyone posts a picture of anything tie dyed, I immediately defriend them.

SimplySoo · 14/07/2012 10:17

Funny, you clearly don't understand how Facebook works. They didn't post the picture on your wall. Get off the internet.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 14/07/2012 10:29

Wow Olympicring I never knew that - just googled and it's very interesting. Love Mumsnet, I learn something new every day. Grin

DontEatTheVolesKids · 14/07/2012 10:30

I can't understand the opprobrium about Terry using the word "black" on another thread & then this thread having no sensitivity about OP's perspective, and taking the piss out of her instead.

noblegiraffe · 14/07/2012 10:59

Oh crikey, voles, slightly different contexts of use, don't you think?

Follyfoot · 14/07/2012 11:07

Did the tortilla call her a c**t then vole? Blimey, no wonder she's upset.

BupcakesandCunting · 14/07/2012 11:27

Crying now at swearing beef tortillas.

Every page you subscribe (like) to cannot censor their posts for you. And they cannot stop you seeing just one of their posts. They can block you, which would stop you seeing everything.

Just unlike them if you feel that strongly about it.
