To complain if a YHA posts pictures of beef tortilla on my facebook wall (I am a vegetarian)

This morning when I checked into my facebook wall a large picture of a beef tortilla was posted on it from a Youth hostel. I am friends with this YouthHostel having stayed there with family some years ago and had a lovely time. I go because it (and others) are self catering and outdooorsy) I felt sick- I am a hindu vegetaria. I asked the hostelmanager to remove the picture from my wall but instead the hostel defriended me 'for my own protection' AM I unreasonable to think a youth hostelling association should stick to pictures of the outdoors and hostel events and avoid posting stuff which could upset people of different cultures?

It's put you off youth hosteling? really?

God. I thought the person who felt kindergarten graduation photos demeaned her degree was over reacting, but this takes the Biscuit. Grin

I thought ( having first been to one nearly 40 years ago) they were about the outdoors etc. I wasnt expecting to have pictures of food posted. I'm put off because I feel very upset and unwelcome and vulnerable. I dont want pictures or otherwise of beef tortillas in my face.

YABU.

EverybodysDoeEyed · 13/07/2012 18:50

Why is it excluding you?

Yha's serve food - this was obviously advertising that fact. Should they have just put veggie food?

Would a picture of a hog roast in a yha garden be ok?

LegoAcupuncture · 13/07/2012 18:50

My friend posted pictures of his meal the other night, squirrel on a skewer. I thought "eurgh gross" but I never emailed him to tke it down.

You are being over dramatic, you could have just hidden the picture.

I think you're trying to be offended than actually being offended.

hugandroll · 13/07/2012 18:51

It could have been lamb.......

SoupDragon · 13/07/2012 18:51

Just hide the story!

They didn't put it on your wall. You did by "liking" them.
They didn't put it there to anger vegetarians (hindu or otherwise)
You need to calm down. This whole "avoid posting stuff which could upset people of different cultures" is what has given religions a bad name with the "banning Christmas" nonsense.

katykuns · 13/07/2012 18:52

I was thinking the same thing Catgirl.... juicy beef drapes :P

OP, they removed you because you are either totally oversensitive, or a complete nutcase :/

quoteunquote · 13/07/2012 18:52

YABU, get a grip the YHA rock, brilliant organisation, bringing great joy to many,

If you can't cope with a picture of food, even if you don't eat it, you need to toughen up a bit,

please tell me this is a joke thread.

flatpackhamster · 13/07/2012 18:53

What an amazingly intolerant point of view. Perhaps you should show some respect for other people's lifestyle choices.

Sirzy · 13/07/2012 18:53

You really seem to be over thinking this.

JodieHarsh · 13/07/2012 18:53
Confused

Are you absolutely sure? only having several vegetarian/vegan friends, and working with a veggie Hindu, I for the life of me can't imagine any of them even noticing the contents of the tortilla...

SalagadooLamagicaboo · 13/07/2012 18:53

Here is my 1st Biscuit

How do you honestly cope in rl? Confused

GobblersKnob · 13/07/2012 18:54

'Are you from Tunbridge Wells?'

I think if someone has posted meat on your wall, that is technically the same as eating it, so I'm afraid you are no longer a vegetarian.

Sorry.

funnyperson · 13/07/2012 18:54

Well I think they only want a certain kind of person at their youth hostel ie beef loving.

OP posts:
SauvignonBlanche · 13/07/2012 18:55

I hope that's a vegetarian Biscuit

manicbmc · 13/07/2012 18:55

Oh ffs! It could have been quorn mince for all you know.

If I took offence at all the things I don't approve of that turn up on facebook and in real life, I'd be permanently offended.

Posterofapombear · 13/07/2012 18:55

Is this a really well disguised bumsex tread?

manicbmc · 13/07/2012 18:56

Funnyperson, change your user name - you aren't Confused

EverybodysDoeEyed · 13/07/2012 18:57

There must be a lot of places you can't go!!

You know, one of te Beefeaters at the tower of London is a vegetarian. Do you think he should sue for being humiliated and demand to be called a Nomeateater?

Sirzy · 13/07/2012 18:57

this must be a wind up?

funnyperson · 13/07/2012 18:58

It was captioned beef tortilla and no this is not a joke.

OP posts:
LegoAcupuncture · 13/07/2012 18:58

Well I'm offended at the term Youth Hostel, as that implies to me they only want yoofs in there.

SoupDragon · 13/07/2012 18:59

So, funnyperson, should we ban Christmas in case it offends someone?

funnyperson · 13/07/2012 18:59

If it hadnt been captioned I wouldnt have noticed it and if it hadnt been on my wall I wouldnt have cared a jot.
