To complain if a YHA posts pictures of beef tortilla on my facebook wall (I am a vegetarian)

This morning when I checked into my facebook wall a large picture of a beef tortilla was posted on it from a Youth hostel. I am friends with this YouthHostel having stayed there with family some years ago and had a lovely time. I go because it (and others) are self catering and outdooorsy) I felt sick- I am a hindu vegetaria. I asked the hostelmanager to remove the picture from my wall but instead the hostel defriended me 'for my own protection' AM I unreasonable to think a youth hostelling association should stick to pictures of the outdoors and hostel events and avoid posting stuff which could upset people of different cultures?

< Restrains self from linking to a picture of a pork chop>

Imisssleepingin · 13/07/2012 19:21

Have you ever sought help for your "issues" ?
If not, I suggest you do.

Imisssleepingin · 13/07/2012 19:21

If you have, ask for your money back.

YouGoonie · 13/07/2012 19:22

Sorry can't restrain myself
pork chop

They dont mind at all. They dont want 'mad' people in their YHA who dont fit in with their ideas do they?

Ah. So the YHA is a fascist, mind controlling organisation.

noblegiraffe · 13/07/2012 19:24

If you've already stayed there they're a bit late with their bonkers-filtering Mexican snack.

marshmallowpies · 13/07/2012 19:29

My first Biscuit

I've been youth hosteling since my, um, youth & the whole ethos of the organisation is welcoming everyone regardless of race, creed, gender etc.

They presumably posted a picture of 'what's on our dinner menu tonight' in all innocence & with no intention of offending anyone. I am a vegetarian & I am not offended by pictures of meat!

Empusa · 13/07/2012 19:30

I think I love this thread, so many weird and wonderful quotes!

"I dont want pictures or otherwise of beef tortillas in my face."

What could the "otherwise" be?

"Well I think they only want a certain kind of person at their youth hostel ie beef loving"

"They dont want 'mad' people in their YHA who dont fit in with their ideas do they?"

Oh, you "mad" vegetarian you!

"I am not easily offended."

Really?

ElephantsCanRemember · 13/07/2012 19:31

I really want a beef tortilla now? Grin

Yabu pretend it was quorn. Or poke your eyes out lest you come face to face with a packet of mince

First thing tomorrow morning, get yourself to your nearest gripmonger!

Honestly, how could a picture of a beef tortilla possibly make you feel vulnerable? (And I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years.)

catgirl1976 · 13/07/2012 19:36

DH just squirted his sour cream all over my beef tortilla..................

ClaireBunting · 13/07/2012 19:36

I think you can delete the picture from your own wall.

SauvignonBlanche · 13/07/2012 19:39

Mmmm...
That's dinner decided.

Empusa · 13/07/2012 19:40

Thanks catgirl!

LadyBeagleEyes · 13/07/2012 19:48

A wind up, good one though.Grin
BTW, you do know the great outdoors are full of sheep, cattle, pigs etc. that are being bred to be ...um... eaten, don't you?

DontEatTheVolesKids · 13/07/2012 19:48

Sorry Guys, but I sympathise with OP more & more. Cows are sacred in Hinduism, no? At very least, they could have been a lot more tactful in how they defriended her.

catgirl1976 · 13/07/2012 19:50

now the cats are at it

CatPower · 13/07/2012 19:51

Hang on folks. An anti-beef agenda. Is this the same poster as the one who always posts about CJD/BSE?

funnyperson · 13/07/2012 19:55

The picture is no longer on my wall.
Its about choice: in a supermarket I can choose not to walk down the meat counter, in a youth hostel I can choose not to eat meat, and I have been a great supporter of the YHA for many many years - stayed there a lot, introduced the young ones to the joys of hostelling etc.
But I had no choice when they posted this on my wall and it really really upset me.
Though what I am no longer sure about (to be fair) is whether this was a news feed or a post and I cannot check as the post is no longer on my wall.
I dont care what other people want to eat- its a free world. But I do care about what gets sent to me personally.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 13/07/2012 19:58

It wasn't sent to you personally, it was completely impersonal. Like spam mail, except you signed up to receive it.
