Bunch of shameless bullies who get their kicks out of harassing vulnerable women.

technodad · 15/03/2012 21:11

I am glad it is not just me then! I was screaming with anger at the radio when I heard the interview.

I am half tempted to go and start a counter protest in front of them, but it might get ugly!

The idea of them filming as women attend the clinics is frightening and should be stopped by the police!

HumphreyCobbler · 15/03/2012 21:13

I heard this too. Awful.

TheArmadillo · 15/03/2012 21:17

YANBU

"Debate me, debate my policy team but leave the women alone" says the chief exec of the pregnancy advisory service which I think sums it up.

Challenge the law, debate the situation but don't harass vunerable women using the service. That is immoral and unchristian.

ChaoticAngel · 15/03/2012 21:22

That is disgusting Angry

PattiMayor · 15/03/2012 21:26

When they were talking about not really harassing women in the UK, that isn't true. One of my friends was heckled so badly when she was going for counselling that she nearly didn't go back for the termination she badly needed (she was in a violent abusive relationship and needed to get out). The level of hatred they have for women is jaw-dropping

ChaoticAngel · 15/03/2012 21:26

What annoys me is that these people don't give a damn about what happens to these women. All they're interested in is getting them not to go through with an abortion. They don't care what happens afterwards.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/03/2012 21:30

"any of the girls", stupid idiot who doesn't even give women the respect of treating them as adults.

bringbacksideburns · 15/03/2012 21:32

That happened to me twenty one years ago.

Thankfully i didn't have to face them going in, just coming out, with their placards and images. There was a large group and it was common for them to gather there several times a week.

My friends picked me up so thank god i wasn't alone, because there were young girls weeping in the clinic who couldn't face going outside. I don't know how i would have reacted if i was faced with that going in to the building.

One of my friends said he recognised one of them, it was his old RE teacher.
I've never forgotten it.

PeppermintPasty · 15/03/2012 21:36

On R4 this morning their spokesperson finally admitted they're against all abortion in any circumstances at all. Oh and apparently five thousand women worldwide have "changed their minds" about aborting because of their interventions, so-called.

No statistics to back that shitty statistic up of course. They are beyond disgusting.

FreudianSlipper · 15/03/2012 21:39

this is intimidation towards women when they may be feeling at their most vulnerable and for some when they are extremely desperate this is surely criminal how can this be legal Angry there is absolutely no need for these so called christians to bully women in such a way and that is what they are doing

apparently they are filming for a christian channel, what a joke what is christian about what they are doing it is fucking outrageous

PeppermintPasty · 15/03/2012 21:41

ChaoticAngel-that is exactly what I was yelling at the radio this morning-the arse spokesman was going on about how much help there is available, how much support. What a crock of shit!!! Are they going to help support the women they "turn around" for the rest of their lives, let alone the children?

Are they fuck!!!

technodad · 15/03/2012 21:51

I am not sure I would post my mobile number online if I were I involved in such a hateful campaign.....

They are vile. And uncoincidentally they are mostly men... middle-aged, inadequate men who can't look other people in the eyes.

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 15/03/2012 22:33

Horrible, horrible, horrible.
I've been one of those vulnerable women. If the centre I went to had been surrounded by people with camcorders ready to be thrust into my face I have to admit I don't think I could have gone in - knowing the footage of me walking into an abortion clinic could have been posted on the internet.

But hey! Maybe I would have been one of the women who've "changed their minds" thanks to these people's "intervention."

Sick in every way and anyone who thinks this is in any way ok should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

technodad · 15/03/2012 22:39

I love the fact that they seem to be complaining that people are haranguing them in the street.

I suspect we should all be haranguing them a little bit more! And videoing them, and "escorting" them as the walk down the street!

I believe in their right to have a peaceful campaign because this is their belief however videoing people is totally out of order.

woollyideas · 15/03/2012 22:53

HalfPastWine - do you think they are protesting in the right place? Even if they are 'peaceful' their choice of venue is confrontational and provocative.

We have a similar group that does this in Brighton - they are called Abort 67. Again, they describe themselves as Christians and are supported by their local church leaders in Worthing who have told the local paper that abortion is 'worse than the Holocaust' and regularly preach this stance from the puplit of their church link here

Oh how I despise them.

edam · 15/03/2012 22:55

A peaceful campaign wouldn't be outside a clinic. It'd be outside parliament. They are just seeking to intimidate and harass vulnerable women, the bastards.

2shoes · 15/03/2012 22:55

I was shocked to when driving past the local clinic(as in the one in our city) to see a couple of people out side it at gone 7 in the evening with placards.

notdrowningjustwaving · 15/03/2012 22:59

Oh, I'm really glad you've posted about this, OP. I nearly broke the radio in rage listening to this vile, evil bastard.

I'm glad Justin Webb pinned the bugger down and made him admit that they oppose all abortion. They usually make some mealy mouthed, publicity friendly concessions that are completely without logic in the face of their so called religious belief (eg to rape victims), because they know how heartless it makes them look to be forcing an unwanted child on such women (and yes, sometimes girls). They do their best to give the impression that all women seeking abortion are stupid, irresponsible slags who need to be saved by "God".

And they have absolutely no answer when asked about the tens of thousands of unwanted children already in care in this country and who exactly will be looking after the ones born that otherwise might be aborted. As someone has already said, they care not a flying fuck for the aftermath, for these poor unwanted kids and their birth mothers. All they care about is their own self righteousness.

Fuck, am angry all over again now.

HalfPastWine · 15/03/2012 23:01

edam To me, by campaigning outside parliament would be saying that they wanted to make the action of abortion illegal and take away those rights from the women but to campaign outside the clinic is saying we just want you to reconsider your options. Offering literature which could offer support them through this is never a bad thing but as I said earlier, videoing them or heckling is not good.

Smellslikecatspee · 15/03/2012 23:04

the second coming I think I love your friend

As for the 5000 women who 'changed their minds' well that's 5000 more or less unwanted children in the world, while Im sure some of their mothers and yes it will always be the mothers, will try their best, what will happen to the others?

Do they ever think of that?

Strangely enough in my personal experience 99% of the anti abortionist I have meet are also full of vitriol for single mothers. Never quite understand that.

HalfPastWine · 15/03/2012 23:06
