On a bus today with my newborn then a lady with a pram and a toddler who her oh was holding got on, i asked if she could fold it down so others could get on as he oh was sitting with the child at the back i was blanked.

Then another lady got on with a stick pram the child looked rather large to be in a pram so i asked how old the little boy was she said 6 Shock i then asked if he had sn she laughed and oh no he is not disabled he has a cough Shock.

then i was asked by the driver to put MY PRAM DOWN GURRRRRRR AS THEIR WERE now 3 parms on the bus

IF YOUR CHILD IS 6 AND HAS NO SPEICAL NEEDS AIBU TO THINK THEY SHOULD BE BLOODY WALKING not in a sodding stick pram were their feet are dragging on the floor because their to jeffing big for it

YANBU.

Glittertwins · 10/03/2012 15:24

At first I wondered if you had assumed he was 6 because you thought he was big. Now I read it all properly and saw he was actually 6! That is way too old to be in any kind of buggy, as for having a cough...

onadifferentplanet · 10/03/2012 15:25

Do you think she might have been being sarcastic and he did have SN ?

usualsuspect · 10/03/2012 15:28

I don't care

elliejjtiny · 10/03/2012 15:28

YANBU. I'm surprised a 6 year old would be able to fit in a buggy not designed for children with SN. My nearly 4 year old has SN and I struggle to push him in the buggy and the buggy creaks and groans. If I tried to put a 6 year old in it the buggy would probably fall apart.

Define special needs?

I don't expect to still have DD in the pram aged 6, but she will be past four before I consider it. I wouldn't have her on the bus either.

I have particular needs myself though, and she has some behavioural issues.

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2012 15:30

What usual said. Buses have caused lots of problems this week it seems.

GrownUpNinjaWarrior · 10/03/2012 15:30

And I would perhaps put my 6 year old DS into a pram if he was very ill to transport him to the doctors if I had no money for a taxi, but I am guessing this is not the case.

MollieO · 10/03/2012 15:30

I've just watched my neighbour go out with her 5 yr old in a pushchair. No special needs. I had to stop myself from staring! Ds refused to go in his when he was 2, even if he had to walk a long way.

cornsilkidy · 10/03/2012 15:30

None of our business really is it?

TheFallenMadonna · 10/03/2012 15:31

You asked someone if her child had special needs?

Kayano · 10/03/2012 15:32

I think it's fucking rude to ask if he had special needs. No ones business!!

ohbugrit · 10/03/2012 15:33

Sparklingbrook · 10/03/2012 15:34

I hope there were no pesky old people on the bus demanding a seat while all this pram folding was going on. Grin

Moomoomie · 10/03/2012 15:34

I can't believe you were rude enough to ask someone if their child has SN.
Really none of your business.

Ilovedaintynuts · 10/03/2012 15:35

I have got 2 DS's age 6 and 3. My older boy has always been a worry, he was premature and has also got every bug going. He was diagnosed with asthma last year and has missed lots of time off school. He has been in hospital twice in the last year.

Yesterday my MIL who has recently been unwell and has early onset dementia phoned me to ask if I could come round as she had had some mail she doesn't understand. My DH died 2 years ago and really she doesn't have anyone else. My DS is off school ill (again) and we don't have a car so the thought of dragging two boys on the bus stresses me out. I asked my neighbour to watch my 3 year old as he plays with her 3 year old.

My DS1 has really short of breath and had a cough so I decided to take him in my 3 year old's buggy. I felt awful when on the bus a woman kept staring at me and even asked me if my DS had special needs. I felt uncomfortable all the way and now feel awful for inconveniencing everyone on the bus Sad
I wonder why people always have to judge other people and why they are so lacking in empathy.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 15:37

TheFallenMadonna, yes because i was pissed off i was the one being asked to put my pram down and didnt was to have words with out knowing the facts first.

WilsonFrickett · 10/03/2012 15:41

Demanding personal information from strangers rarely has them wanting to do things like fold their prams up in order to help out the complete stranger who is asking them the extremely personal questions in the first place...

TheFallenMadonna · 10/03/2012 15:46

I think were you to have words, it would be to the woman with the empty pushchair, rather than the woman with the occupied one.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 15:47

i didn't demand i asked politely its only when i found out how old the child was and that they didn't have sn i started getting cross

and i wanted to know because if he of course did have sn i would of just got off the bus to be fair and let the lady have whole space to herself

OP posts:
Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 15:48

the fallen modonna i tried that before the lady with the 6 year old got on she blanked me

ilovesooty · 10/03/2012 15:48

I don't care how "politely" you asked. You were appallingly rude to ask her.

cornsilkidy · 10/03/2012 15:49

2why on Earth were you cross? Even if the child didn't have SN it's absolutely none of your business why he's in the buggy.
