On a bus today with my newborn then a lady with a pram and a toddler who her oh was holding got on, i asked if she could fold it down so others could get on as he oh was sitting with the child at the back i was blanked.

Then another lady got on with a stick pram the child looked rather large to be in a pram so i asked how old the little boy was she said 6 Shock i then asked if he had sn she laughed and oh no he is not disabled he has a cough Shock.

then i was asked by the driver to put MY PRAM DOWN GURRRRRRR AS THEIR WERE now 3 parms on the bus

IF YOUR CHILD IS 6 AND HAS NO SPEICAL NEEDS AIBU TO THINK THEY SHOULD BE BLOODY WALKING not in a sodding stick pram were their feet are dragging on the floor because their to jeffing big for it

But you can not go around asking people if their children have SN or not, that is totally unreasonable, which is why people are having a hard time feeling sympathetic for you.

The 6yr old could well of have SN, but why on earth would the mother want to broadcast it on a crowded bus, infront of the child? If you don't understand that, then it is clear to see you have a lot to learn about what is and isn't acceptable to ask other random parents regards to their children.

You are displacing your anger, it should of been directed to the woman with the empty pram, who was taking the piss.

usualsuspect · 10/03/2012 16:14

You should use a sling

coolascucumber · 10/03/2012 16:16

Can't believe you asked someone if their child had SN. Can't imagine the woman would want to say yes in front of her 6 year old even if he did have special needs.

Also can't believe that you wouldn't ask someone to give up their seat (if they hadn't offered) so that you could sit down with your baby. I would have. It is much safer for you to be sitting with your baby. Nobody I know would allow a mother to stand holding a child.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:21

coolascucumber welcome to traveling in london no one gives up their seat

ilovesooty um i did ask the lady with the empty parm to fold it down i have already said SHE BLANKED ME

yanbu op, you were on the bus first with a newborn.
I think yabu asking if the child has sn though.
Personally I would have refused to fold the pram, the pram/buggy that had no child in it should have been folded.
I would expect in most circumstances a six year old child with sn would have been in an appropriate buggy. I may be wrong though.

coolascucumber · 10/03/2012 16:25

I lived in London with a young baby. If I wanted or needed a seat I asked for it and I was never refused. Quit being a martyr, a disarming smile and your lovely baby will win you friends and a seat on the bus.

2shoes · 10/03/2012 16:26

the buggy you linked to , we it looks like a......sn buggy does.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:28

coolascucumber not in my part of town i seen pregnant ladies made to stand and when they asked for a seat they were spat at so after that i never will ask for seat.
also were drivers even dare ask for payment or a oyster and the get a knife shown to them

No one knows y the older kid was in the buggy I'm sure no one would want the stares and glares to be honest so I would assume that there was a reason he was in there. I personally woulda been hacked off with the empty buggy owner and bus driver for not asking that one to be collapsed. I think asking about the SN was very rude! I also think it was out of order that no one offered a seat and u had to stand with the baby. I'm sure ordinarily u would be happy to stand if it was just u but I'm surprised bus driver didn't force the issue with a newborn in your arms :)

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:29

2hoes its a stick pram that most mums who have toddlers use very light weight good for hoildays and very cheap

Knifings, spittings, random attacks on drivers? And you want to take a newborn on these buses?

Madeyemoodysmum · 10/03/2012 16:31

I a going to Disneyland soon. I intend to take a buggy for my 4 yo to catch a nap in if he needs it. If my 6you needs a rest I may even let her sit in it too. Am I going to be judged. YABU to ask about sn.

alessthandomesticgoddess · 10/03/2012 16:33

YANBU. Personally I feel any child older than 3.5 with no SN doesn't need a pushchair. There are obviously exceptions.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:33

Pandemoniaa sadly their is no other viable way to get around London

a couple of years a ago a man was killed asking some kids to stop throwing things at his gf

you say you lived in london i dont think you did if you dont know that attacks happen on london transport daily

Shock You really don't think you were being rude? I agree with usual, Get a sling.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:34

Madeyemoodysmum no but i am sure you would see that a newborn would trump your 6year old if their was only space for one pram

OP posts:
bobbledunk · 10/03/2012 16:35

I think it's ridiculous that the mother of a newborn is the one expected to remove her lo and fold her pram.

Parents should expect to be judged if they keep their non sn six year old in a buggy, my neighbour pushes her five year old around because it's easier than listening to him whine when he has to walk himself, a combination of overfeeding of junk food and inactivity has made him so obese that he waddles when he walks and pants heavily. Lazy parenting is cruel and should never be socially acceptable.

ilovesooty · 10/03/2012 16:36

Having been so utterly rude to that woman you were lucky not to become a statistic by the sound of it then. Hmm

AwkwardMary · 10/03/2012 16:37

Yeah whatever OP....like its usual to ask if a chid has SN.

I dont believe you.

Madeyemoodysmum · 10/03/2012 16:38

Yes. Agreed. I would not expect to get on a bus Or similar Just meant chances are I will have a child aged plus 4 at some point over the weekend in a buggy for a half hr nap. The rest of the time they will walk. Sometimes buggys are useful for an older child and anyone to judge that is unreasonable.

Mrbojangles1 · 10/03/2012 16:38

AwkwardMary so why reply

BoJangles so that I can remind people on here that some people just make up bollocks to cause a row...or to liven their day up.

And because I can.
