To be a bit disappointed in Kate Middleton?

When visiting Fortnums, apparently she talked about what a struggle it is to make tea properly with "dried tea leaves". For someone who has not ever worked full time, had dependents or any particular constraints apart from media interest, I thought she might be a bit more interesting and competent. She still seems to spend her time giggline and hair flicking and being generally self conscious.

Ypu are, presumably, being ironic, pornyissue?

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:12

Eh?!

I certainly have slack grasp of your post

scottishmummy · 04/03/2012 11:14

well evidently you're consistent in your slack grasp on reality

MrsSeanBean · 04/03/2012 11:15

Didn't Diana shag Will Carling as well as others already mentioned..? (Led to break-up of his marriage iirc.)

Mrsjay · 04/03/2012 11:16

I think there was a lot of shagging outside that marraige mrsseanbean

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:18

Lol,what the hell is going on?!

Well I certainly wish I could have been less wild and more dignified like Kate.

Thank god it wasn't me who married William the press would have a field day and then some. The shame.

seeker · 04/03/2012 11:24

Role model? Marry rich man. Do nothing meaningful for rest of life. Say nothing meaningful in public for rest of life. Express no opinions in public for rest of life. Take excessive interest in personal appearance for rest of life. Just what I want for my daughter.

LadyWithEDS · 04/03/2012 11:26

I forgot about Will Carling. Knowing what we now know about NOTW, there will have been a trail for that affair.

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:28

For the rest of life? Ok....

Lol! Seeker please do tell me where you got the crystal ball as I too would like to purchase one

OhdearNigel · 04/03/2012 11:29

The Queen never expresses an opinion in public either. Would you say that she is a crap role model and never does anything meaningful ?

She has to take an interest in her personal appearance because the world is full of harpies waiting to strike when she goes out with so much as a hair out of place. I doubt any of us would like to be subject of the media attention that she is

scottishmummy · 04/03/2012 11:30

encourage your daughter to be something other than dutiful thin wife
that's a good straarting point
not daydreaming about emulating a horah who went to Marlborough and married a prince

seeker · 04/03/2012 11:30

Well of course for the rest of her life! Or do you think she's going to get time off for good behaviour and be allowed to espress a personal opinion on something eve 5 years or so?

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:31

I likes the enigma of the royal family anyway. It's part of the appeal.

seeker · 04/03/2012 11:31

"The Queen never expresses an opinion in public either. Would you say that she is a crap role model and never does anything meaningful ?"

Yep.

PosiePumblechook · 04/03/2012 11:31

As role models go I'd rather Kate Middleton than Katie Price....

scottishmummy · 04/03/2012 11:32

and undoutedly they like compliant sycophants who like the brand

PosiePumblechook · 04/03/2012 11:32

Anyhoo Royals do express opinions, look at Charles with his 'crazy' organic ideas.....ahead of his time.

scottishmummy · 04/03/2012 11:34

teach your children role model is flawed concept
find your own fortitude, your own role
don't emulate or copy schlebs
and understand why some people are socially, morally or ideologically significant.and why some arent

PosiePumblechook · 04/03/2012 11:37

I didn't say I'd like it, I'd said 'rather'.

PosiePumblechook · 04/03/2012 11:37

My dcs are pretty unaware of slebs.

Mrsjay · 04/03/2012 11:39

scottishmummy i agree with all your reasons for not looking at celebs for role Models teaching children to be themselves is so important , But i Like Kate I dont see what she is doing so wrong , MY daughter really likes her she knows full well she wont ever meet a prince and hates simpering girlies , I think you can admire somebody but not be like them and i dont think kate is like that anyway , she is doing her royal duty , in private who knows what her opinions are ,

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:41

Young women will always look for role models and celebrities are obvious targets.

Its quite refreshing to see a woman in the public eye who isnt there from getting her tits out or shagging a bunch of footballers.

And one that young women actually want to copy!

OhdearNigel · 04/03/2012 11:48

I am genuinely fascinated -those of you who think she should get a job, she's never had a proper one what would you have her do ? She worked at Jigsaw for a while - are you suggesting that none of their buyers so a proper job ? Because that's what she did. Or that Carole Middleton doesn't have a proper job because she does it from home ? Kate worked for the family business for most of her adult life, now unless you have actually worked for Party Pieces you can have no idea of how much work she did. Do people that work for an online business not have a proper job then ?

When she was at Jigsaw she was constantly followed by the press on her way to and from work, just as happened with Princess Diana.

OhdearNigel · 04/03/2012 11:49

none of their buyers do a proper job

Pornyissue · 04/03/2012 11:53

Of course it nothing is proper unless it salt of the earth stuff Nigel!

And poor woman,if she did get a job she would be accussed of exploring her connections and why not let someone who really needs the money in a time like this have the job, she is neglecting royal duties, blah blah blah
