To be a bit disappointed in Kate Middleton?

When visiting Fortnums, apparently she talked about what a struggle it is to make tea properly with "dried tea leaves". For someone who has not ever worked full time, had dependents or any particular constraints apart from media interest, I thought she might be a bit more interesting and competent. She still seems to spend her time giggline and hair flicking and being generally self conscious.

I think it's repulsive when Philip does a Philip. How much jor repulsive if a youngish woman did!

Oh, and it's 70p - not including security qnd policing.

JoannaLumpy · 03/03/2012 20:30

She's not there to be particularly interesting, just uncontroversial and inoffensive, but I expect she'll grow into her role and gain confidence to contribute to public life in some field or other, eventually.

I'd guess there is quite a bit of steel to her, but I'm glad she's got that as it's a tough position to be in wrt to press and public scrutiny and criticism.

At least it's a love-match and I hope they have a very happy family life together.

breatheslowly · 03/03/2012 20:32

If we add in the cost of security and policing then I might be able to stretch to a chocolate orange, but only when they are on offer we could add a fair number of nurses to the NHS.

LeBOF · 03/03/2012 20:41

Yeah, I suppose a spot of casual racism wouldn't be all that funny. Scratch that then.

BoogalooK8 · 03/03/2012 20:46

I just think it's a shame that somebody with a 'university' education and by her own choice in such a high profile life, that she isn't more of an example to younger women. She has never worked full time and certainly isn't using her degree.

I'm sorry to say that I think she is definitely ambitious about her place in the world and definitely a high climber!

Superene · 03/03/2012 20:49

She is hilarious in private, really good fun.

Amaretti · 03/03/2012 20:56

I think she is lovely and you are all being mean. I think I'd like her if I met her. Which I won't.

breatheslowly · 03/03/2012 20:56

Even people in graduate jobs rarely use their actual degree. What would you like her to do with her History of Art degree? I doubt there are enough History of Art jobs out there for all of them. Having been to university gives a broad range of experience and I think that it might be useful in her being able to hold reasonable conversations with the wide variety of people that she will meet. I still want my 70p back though.

scottishmummy · 03/03/2012 21:04

depends.she's did a whimsy nice to study but no use really
if you study a vocational degree that gives professional qualification then the degree is used

BoogalooK8 · 03/03/2012 21:14

New to mumsnet...I didn't realise there were 180 odd comments before mine!

Most have made me chuckle!

But most importantly I have finally found people who think the same of Kate (not blooming Katherine) as I do, I was starting to think I was a complete cow doubting her and thinking she is a wisteria...lovely on the eye, smells lovely and a ruthless climber!

hocuspontas · 03/03/2012 21:21

I thought I read somewhere (DM?) that Carole Middleton 'selected' St Andrews for Kate because Wills was there. So any course would have done.

BoogalooK8 · 03/03/2012 21:26

True...actually she did use her degree, I was wrong, selecting accessories for Oasis; surely that involves art ;)

Nancy66 · 03/03/2012 21:28

i meant that diana fucked other people's husbands.....

BoogalooK8 · 03/03/2012 21:31

She annoyed me too!

ajandjjmum · 03/03/2012 22:28

Jigsaw not Oasis Booga!

She doesn't actually get the benefit of the money spent on her security - other than the fact that she's not continually molested by odd people. The fact that the security bill is so high must surely be a sad reflection of the world we live in, rather than the requirements of a relatively young girl.

TotemPole · 03/03/2012 22:34

Superene, you know her personally?

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 23:03

Who's husband did Dianna fuck then? I thought she fucked her own, the car sales man, the ginger reality tv guy, the heart surgeon and Dodi, were there more?

Haziedoll · 03/03/2012 23:07

Would anyone care to explain how you actually make tea with tea-leaves?

LadyWithEDS · 03/03/2012 23:15

I don't know the perfect way. Back in the day, before we used tea bags, my Mum taught me:

Warm the tea pot with hot water, put a tea spoon of tea in per person and one for the pot. Do not forget the tea strainer!

scottishmummy · 03/03/2012 23:15

freshly boiled water
warm pot by swishing boiled water
pour that boiled water into cups to keep warm
pour freshly boiled water over tea leaves
leave 2-3 min to infuse
store your tea leaves in airtight tin
I recommend this teapot

breatheslowly · 03/03/2012 23:18

Warm pot with boiling water, tip that water away. Put in a couple of teaspoons of leaves. Pour on freshly boiled water. Leave to infuse for a few min. Pour into a cup through a strainer to catch the leaves. Did you really want to know Hazie? Other than failing to use a strainer or using an inappropriate amount of leaves, I don't know how you could get it wrong.

Haziedoll · 03/03/2012 23:27

Would using a tea-strainer whilst pouring the tea into a cup not look a bit bleurgh?

breatheslowly · 03/03/2012 23:33

No - it is normal. When you go for tea at posh hotels everyone gets a tea strainer of their own. Why would it look bleurgh?

We have a pot that has a cafetiere bit like this but it doesn't (IMO) work as well as just putting the leaves in the pot and then using a strainer.

scottishmummy · 03/03/2012 23:44

leaf tea is far superior
I sound like my ma now
but at home yes I do leaf tea only
tea bag at work it's less faff
