AIBU about the government lying about DLA

First time AIBU long time (nah not really) lurker. I also posted this in other topics but thought this would also attract the numbers of viewers that it deserves.

So disabled people asked then ignored about benefit changes.

So the short version is that no one wants the reform of DLA, particularly not the overwhelming number who responded to the governments own consultation.
Also rejected were the proposals to change the way the benefit is assessed, as well as the length of time that people would need to wait before qualifying for the benefit, last but not least rejected was the changes to the rates and the levels of benefit payable.

No apologies for saying this is the true face of compassionate conservatism.

here you go Lady

Sevenfold · 13/01/2012 23:36

yet little Sally loosing out on a trip too the Zoo worries mn more.

molepom · 13/01/2012 23:36

From the Guardian..

"Parents can now receive a maximum of £54 a week through tax credits to help with the extra cost of looking after a child with disabilities. But under the welfare reform bill, passed by the Commons last week, that benefit will form part of universal credit and be cut to £27 a week, plunging thousands of families below the poverty line, according to the Children's Society."

LadySybilDeChocolate · 13/01/2012 23:39

God, that's crazy! Take from the disabled children and give to the 40k earners by means of child benefit Hmm

Sevenfold · 13/01/2012 23:42

it is disgusting.
and totally ignored by most on mn

molepom · 13/01/2012 23:43

Exactly, now do you see why we are so pissed off?

To top it all off, he's only doing that because he's getting such bad press at the moment because of the Spartacus report/ responsible reform over the last few days.

The Guardians support and the Daily Mail's (yes I know!!!) has been damaging to him over the past 2 days. Funny how everyone has also missed the fact that he said "He MAY" consider changing his mind about it. It's all about keeping the middle class happy and not loosing votes.

molepom · 13/01/2012 23:45

Nothing we are saying about the reforms are being exaggerated - if anyone wants links to something we can get it to prove it's all true, but still no-one cares enough to sign one poxy petition.

Sevenfold · 13/01/2012 23:46

I posted a link to the petition thread on the CB thread.
was ignored
no surprise really, but I cannot get why people don't see .....
disability can happen to anone at anytime

LadySybilDeChocolate · 13/01/2012 23:48

It's very much all about keeping the middle classes happy! The disabled are the new 'single parents'. I remember the stigma, the 'single mother's who only had a baby to get a council flat' Hmm The Conservatives seem to be trying to gain votes by stigmatising a certain sector of society, usually the weakest. MN is mostly middle class. The SN threads are not on the main board because??

molepom · 13/01/2012 23:49

but they will care..once it's happened to them and there's nothing to help them.

Services are being cut by local councils on a daily basis and yet no-one gives a damn. They all would rather keep their heads in the sand and as long as it doesnt happen to them, everything is ok. Talk about selfish.

molepom · 13/01/2012 23:51

Remeber the stigma? I'm living through it every day add a disabled child to that, one with a "made up disability" and I dont stand a chance against the media brainwwashed public.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 13/01/2012 23:53

The BBC don't help with their pissing 'saints and scroungers' programme Hmm It's propoganda, they don't want people on benefits. I wonder how this stacks up against the Human Rights Act? Wink

WinterIsComing · 13/01/2012 23:54

Is there anything else specific that I can sign about opposing PIP?

That CB thread is very long but at least it is all contained in one place. When the proposals were announced practically every MN discussion board seemed to be flooded with multiple threads on the issue.

Sevenfold · 13/01/2012 23:55

sorry but sn is the new black.
racism is no longer allowed. disablism is.
threads are left on mn that is racist would be gone.
the lack of caring by mn as a whole is the same as in rl.
the government set this up, worry the mc about loosing CB, they wouldn't give a hoot about disabled people loosing money.
and look it worked.
people on what I consider to be a very high income. whinging as they are going to lose their CB and won't be able to live in london!!

they are not now going to care about a disabled child having to go into care as their parents can no long afford ot keep them, oh yes they will cry crocodile tears. but they won't care really. they are more worried that their child might miss a school trip or a visit to the Zoo....
the government won

molepom · 14/01/2012 00:01

Winter - just signing this , which I think you already have, is the best you can do as it covers everything.

Other then Emailing your support to the reform proposals to your MP and keep passing the link on, there isnt much else you can do. We need to get as many people as possible aware of the situation but it's hard going as the media dont want to know.

There are links on twitter and Facebook too.

Sevenfold · 14/01/2012 00:08

LadySybilDeChocolate I notice they are ignoring you now,
at least i know it wasn't just me, they just don't give a shit.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 14/01/2012 00:10

Yes, I've just mentioned something about it. Grin It's terribly rude to change the subject I think.

WinterIsComing · 14/01/2012 00:14

Thanks, molepom, I have, yes.

Will link on FB too for the not-yet disabled.

WinterIsComing · 14/01/2012 00:26

"If you are one of the many not-yet disabled people, or not-yet caring for a disabled person, I urge you to sign this. You don't have to change your profile picture to "raise awareness" or copy and paste a status to show how much you care for the cause whilst doing nothing concrete about it. This could affect you or your loved ones at any time.

Please sign. Voting next week. Thank you"

Can you tell that I am somewhat pissed off the the people on my FB who insist on stamping their profile pictures with pretty ribbons, having ludicrous chain "secret" status updates with no links to donating and, "if you care about mental health have the courage to have this as your status for 24 hours" type posts?

OctonautsOnRepeat · 14/01/2012 00:41

This is so awful Sad Angry

fallenpetal · 14/01/2012 00:52

If they remove the lower rate Ill get nothing :( I only get it because I have problems cooking, cutting up my food. The constant pain, days in bed unable to move, my daughter helping me dress, having shopping delivered and not being able to do cleaning etc etc is all irrelevant - apparently.

AmberLeaf · 14/01/2012 02:20

That CB thread pissed me right off.

£44k and no more child benefit? boo fucking hoo.

Try DLA/tax credit cuts, no more carers allowance.....forced to do workfare with no SN childcare available.

My son[ASD] gets MRC despite having night time care needs [hes still awake sitting next to me as im typing with no signs of going to sleep] so we wont be safe from the tax credit cuts and it seems I will no longer be eligable for carers allowance.

I get between 3-6 hrs sleep a night, 6 would be a good night and doesnt happen that often, but I will have to do indentured slavery workfare or find a job where they dont mind me being late because theres a problem getting him into school or when I have to take time off for his appointments. No idea what would happen during school holidays as 1 he couldnt cope in a play scheme 2 they wouldnt have him anyway.

All these sleepless nights I have due to being up with him give me plenty of time to ponder what the hell im going to do and what will happen when hes older [and after I die].

So yeah 'Hoo-bloody-ray! child benefit cuts to be looked at for fairness' 'cos thats whats really important eh.

If the DLA cuts go through as they are I honestly think I will crack up.

Very few people even give a fuck.

TheHumancatapult · 14/01/2012 06:19

I receive DlA and get HRM but under pip I shall lose it .

Not that my disiabiltu will go away or even get better . But because I can self propel 50 m on the flat I'm independtley mobile

Not that in RL the ground is ever flat and hills dont exhist or the fact if you told soneone well after you done walking and your legs ache use those same legs to pick ip the kerrle ir di the housework

or there ate dropped kerbs everywhere not and let's be honest next time you go out look at the dropped kerbs they are not level Or don't exist or there's a car parked on them so I need to backtrack 50 m then come down on the road

. Or the fact is if I want to travel by train I must request assistance minimum of 24 hours in advance . So I miss the train and no guarantee to get on the next one

Or bus that has a working ramp or is not full or is a buggy on board or the fact that not all buses are accessible

Lets not forget the fact my chairs do jot fit in a normal taxi but no HRM no adapted car and I desperately want to learn to drive

TheHumancatapult · 14/01/2012 06:36

Oh and I have to choose which I stop being either disabled or a carer to ds3

Not that I can stop being either of course but according to the Govermrnt I can be Hmm

Take DLA away your taking mine and ds3 independence away

He can't mange ms activities and ms say no . So I use his DlA to pay for him to attend a Sn group .

Imagine how much rates if depression will soar amongst disabled people and carers because they can no longer go out

Best bit nHs wheelchairs do not need to be most suitable they only need to be adquwade you only need to be able to use it to get around your home .Not to get around outside !!

Imagine being told yes things exist to get you around outside to go to the shops to go to the park with your kids

But were not going to give you them.Angry so according to the nHs i can never leave my house .

My DlA has helped me to purchase my own chair to do just that

MidnightinMoscow · 14/01/2012 06:42

I have linked the petition to my Facebook page, not sure it will help but thought I'd try.

I don't know anyone who claims DLA, so it's not an issue that effects me directly, but I am disgusted at what this governement are trying to do to the most vulnerable people in our society. As for the under hand way they are going about it, words fail me.

Their control of the media is frightening too.
