In thinking that if you won't go out alone at night because you've got a vagina, you are actually a bit pathetic?

Because, statistically, if you have a vagina, you are far more at risk of being murdered if you stay at home If your home has a man in it. Yet time and time again there's this 'Waa, waa, I need an armed escort or a male owner to protect me if I'm ever going to set a foot out of doors after dark. It's so unreasonable to expect me to use public transport or walk anywhere...'

Are you for real???

I think if Basil had read the thread, properly, isntead of jumping on certain parts of it, the latest state of play would never have come to pass.

That said sorry, Basil, I dont like "talking about you" as if you arent reading.

SGB was posting on this thread as a feminist.

I would take a guess though, you dontcallme, havent read the thread at all.

PeanutButterCupCake · 11/01/2012 19:22

Eh where did MJ "bully" anyone into sharing Hmm

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:23

And also, please dont insult my intelligence by claiming to think for me, the equally I wanted to, was to make clear that as opposed to Basil and Sarah and Totally etc, who felt pushed into sharing, I didnt feel pushed, that is the only distinction I was making by my use of those words.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:25

sorry to keep making short posts, short attention span. I am sorry that Basil and others felt pushed into sharing, but that is a general, I am sorry any one has had their feelings over exposed, not a personal apology.

There's an irony to that, MJ, but never mind....

And I don't know how much of the thread Basil read. But she is entitled to reply to what she sees fit. As am I. And I don't like the bullying stance that you took, which pretty much forced Basil to tell you that she was a survivor. You tried implyiing that her opinion wasn't as valid because she wasn't (As far as you knew) a victim.

Never assume.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:26

Strange that, I cant see anyone else sharing that view.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 11/01/2012 19:27

"Basil, I cant even say I hope that one day you understand those figures you bandy about, because I wouldnt wish this sort of understanding on anyone."

That sounds like you were calling Basil out to me...

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:28

Sorry for this Sarah, because you havent been through enough

Dontcallme, while you clearly think you can speak for other posters, I think you will find Basil responded as a reply to a post SarahStraton made, as denoted by the use of the initials SS in her reply.

I wouldnt lower myself to copy and paste such a heartfelt post.

Northernlurker · 11/01/2012 19:28

SGM - totally off topic - but that might not be a bad thing? - have you seen the West Wing Episode when they nearly invade Canada?

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:29

Oh my god, Dontcallme, OH MY FUCKING GOD, is that SERIOUSLY how you read my post, you are so far off the fucking mark I cannot begin to tell you how far, I am not even going to try to explain that one to you, because I find your interpretation of ut quite frankly stomach churningly disgustingly SICK.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:30

and I literally mean that, how you placed that interpretation on my post I dont known, but you have actually made me want to throw up.

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:30

I don't share that view.

Could we keep the nitpicking she said she said she bullied etc to the feminist boards so that other women can post on and draw from this thread?

Look, a whole load of people came on and responded to SGB's post by saying things along the lines of:

"this post is offensive and oafish and therefore that proves that feminism is a great big crock of shit"

Can anyone, please explain to me how that is not anti feminist?

Most of the regulars on the fem boards have posted to say that they disagree with the tone of the OP even if some of them may agree with some of hte content.

I'm sure I posted this earlier on in this thread, but if you disagree with the OP AND are hostile to feminism, you will come on here to say something along the lines of "ha! this proves feminism is shit". If you aren't, you'll come on to say : "FGS SGB, what are you on? You're wrong. But feminism's great".

Those of you who feel you've been traduced by being tarred with the anti feminist brush, ask yourself which you've done. Be honest. If you didn't do the "Ha! this proves feminism is shit!" line, then you're not anti feminist, are you, so stop feeling insulted. No one's called you anti feminist, because you didn't post anything anti feminist. Someone told me that I'd called anyone who disagreed with SGB, anti feminist. I honestly don't understand how they got to that conclusion, unless they were reading stuff into my posts that wasn;t there

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:31

MJ, stop.

Stop right now, for your own sake.

Go and drink wine.

PeanutButterCupCake · 11/01/2012 19:33

Good idea hully
This thread is making me irrationally angry!

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:33

STOP IT WITH THE SHE SAID SHE SAID IM A FEMINIST NO YOU'RE NOT SHIT

It's so fucking unhelpful!

Christ.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:33

Hully thank you, but I am trying to stay away from booze and I have drunk the booze cupboard literally dry, I had to send DH to the supermarket for an emergency bottle of cheap brandy last night, of the variety that is so disgusting, you dont want to drink too much of it

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:35

Do you have any idea how mad it sounds?

You have a bunch of women, trying to get through life as best they can, sharing experiences, thoughts and feelings and maybe sharing and learning and then it is DERAILED dear god yes the HOLY WORD by all the shitty nitpicking.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

MJinBlack · 11/01/2012 19:36

I can only offer you cheap brandy - here have some - its foul, Im sure DH got it on purpose.

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:36

I find Fundador is a fine fine variety of throat-burner.

BasilRathbone · 11/01/2012 19:37

Sorry, I realise that that's an uneven version. Those of you who are neutral about feminism, won't necessarily add " SGB you're wrong but feminism's great" You'll just say "SGB you're wrong".

But you won't say "and that proves feminism's shit". Grin

Am labouring the point I know.

Viz frothy's point, absolutely agree, people are entitled to engage about any aspect of the thread they want to. My primary interest when I first posted, was the flood of anti feminist stuff that was the response to the OP (I actually came to tell the OP she was wrong, but then saw all the anti fem stuff and felt it needed a response). Other's primary interest is the ins and outs of people's psychology, their personal experience, the stats, etc. No one is obliged to engage with the bits of the thread that isn't their primary interest right now. I'm interested in lots of the stuff people are discussing, but frankly life is short and I'm going to stick the aspects it raises that I find most interesting at the current time. I expect most other posters will do the same.

PeanutButterCupCake · 11/01/2012 19:39

Live and let live I say.......pass the brandy?

Hullygully · 11/01/2012 19:40

I wonder why SGB didn't post it in feminism?

As she didn't, can we drop the usual and just muddle along with love and kindness?

please please please
