Is the school being unreasonable to leave my ds out because he lost his ticket?

Ds is 5 in reception. The school did a father christmas today, people dressed as elves came to the classroom to take the children to see father christmas who had come to see them in school and give them a small present. We paid for the tickets £2.
Ds lost his ticket today althoguh they did take a name list when we bought the ticket so they did know we had paid. So when it came to go all the other chikdren went and they kept my ds behind in he classroom so he didnt get to gi and didnt get his present, he still very much believes in father christmas and he was pretty upset about it - luckily when dh heard he suddenly found that father christmas had been to the house and left a present there (luckily i have shopped and wrapped already!). So ds is a little consoled but aibu to think thats a pretty shitty thing to do on behalf of he school. Yes he lost his ticket - but he is only in reception im sure they could have checked the list.

YANBU

Mean buggers

aldiwhore · 07/12/2011 17:06

That's horrible behaviour from the school and YANBU. He's FIVE. Poor chap. BUT, FC is magic so I hope your DS understands it was the schoo's error and not FC's. x

stripygiraffe · 07/12/2011 17:06

Utterly ridiculous. Poor we guy.

WorraLiberty · 07/12/2011 17:06

What did they say when you asked why they didn't check the list?

Your poor DS Sad

grumpypants · 07/12/2011 17:07

How disgusting to allow that sort of charge during school time - totally unfair on the other children who couldn't pay.

Groovee · 07/12/2011 17:07

That's ridiculous. Poor lamb.

Ipomegranate · 07/12/2011 17:08

Oh that is too cruel. I can't believe how so e schools behave :(

ANTagony · 07/12/2011 17:08

Really bad on the school - whether you'd paid or not they have no right to exclude during the school day.

forceslover · 07/12/2011 17:08

If they made a list why didn't they check it twice? (To see if he is naughty or nice)

Poor wee mite.

MorelliOrRanger · 07/12/2011 17:09

That is really mean of them, I'd complain. My dd is in reception and the class teacher takes responsibility for stuff like that :(

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 07/12/2011 17:09

We havent spoken to them yet we will tomorrow - his aunt picked him up today and heard the story but didnt know the details etc (like that we had paid ) abd didnt say anything. He seems happy enough and his big sister, who did get to go has been sharing her selection box which is nice.

That;s awful. I'm a Reception teacher and would never dream of doing this. In our school, we wouldn't even charge parents for their children to see Father Christmas, and if we did, we'd subsidise those children whose parents couldn't pay (very deprived area). Think you should definitely complain.

festi · 07/12/2011 17:10

that is shocking i cant imagine my dds school doing this. even if they had thought he didnt have a ticket, im pretty sure they would have just taken him or at least attempted to contact the parents.

was he the only one in the class left behind?

YankNCock · 07/12/2011 17:10

That is really awful, I was expecting to read something about a kid who was at least 12 and should really be starting to be responsible for stuff, but FIVE? And they KNEW he paid?

I'd be making one hell of a stink, that is just cruel.

Catsdontcare · 07/12/2011 17:10

Oh that's awfull I would kick up a right stink about that!

HoneydragonAteCliffRichard · 07/12/2011 17:10

That is shitty as hell. They do this at Ds school and each teacher receives a list of students doing it. Sad

LoveInAColdClimate · 07/12/2011 17:10

That's awful! Your poor DS Sad.

Sirzy · 07/12/2011 17:11

Poor child :(

Xmas Sad
CupAndSorcery · 07/12/2011 17:12

Not only should they have checked the list ... they should have checked it twice!

That's terrible and mean - for £2 a pop they should have given all the kids presents regardless imo. My primary school teachers always had a few coins to give to the kids who didn't have anything when we had fayres etc.

That aside - well done DH for saving the day Xmas Smile

Nanny0gg · 07/12/2011 17:12

And what about all the children whose parents couldn't/didn't pay the £2?
Was this after school or during school? I hope the latter or they shouldn't have done it.
And they were very mean to your ds.
I hope you get a refund!

SauvignonBlanche · 07/12/2011 17:12

Bah humbug - miserable gits! Xmas Sad

WorraLiberty · 07/12/2011 17:12

Oh I see, well I'd give them hell OP

Also, I don't think they should be doing this within school hours as it kind of forces parents into paying the £2.

Ours does this after school in the hall so the parents can choose to take their kids to see Santa or not.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 07/12/2011 17:13

He says he was the only one left behind but obviously we only have his word for that although from what my older dd says pretty much all children did go. I think dh is going to speak to them tomorrow he is pretty annoyed as he took ds to school this morning and he was so excited.

Nannyogg it was in the middle of the school day so the "elves" came to the classroom and took the children to the hall.
