To be suspicious about a kindle??

I have just discovered a new kindle in DH's car boot hidden under a pile of work stuff. Obviously only recently ordered. Presumably a present.

I have one. DSs are little.

AIBU to be suspicious and start wondering who he can have bought it for. Have I been on mumsnet for too long!?!

I'd assume it was an upgrade.

storminabuttercup · 30/11/2011 19:43

Has one if his parents maybe asked him to
Order it for the other??

Reasons I have had expensive gift items secretly in my possession.

  • I got it for me .... yes I have gotten myself a sneaky treat from time to time.
  • Leaving gift for work friend ..... All had a whipround and raised enough to give an ipad as a sendoff.
  • Secret extra gift for DH ...... Soppy I know but I love him dearly.
  • Gift for my mother ..... who is a nosey rummager and everything needs hiding from her talent for uncovering any gift and ruining the surprise.
  • Gift from Dad to Mum ...... Same reasons as above.

Personaly I think it is in all likelyhood innocent and fine. Im hoping the kindle is for the op, but even if it is not then most likely another good reason for it being in the boot of aforementioned car.

Hmm porn stash kindle, now theres a thought. What was with it? If its a bottle of hand cream and a loo roll you've found your mistress hehe

Why do they keep the coke in the car?

runningwilde · 30/11/2011 19:46

JUst ask him!

KoPo · 30/11/2011 19:48

Sorry Mum if you are a mumsnetter.

It wouldn't even have occurred to me that it was a gift for another woman. I'd have thought: "Bloody hell, can't believe he has bought himself a Kindle when we are skint" and asked about it straight away.

It doesn't seem enormously suspicious at face value, so do just ask!

ImperialBlether · 30/11/2011 19:58

TeaOneSugar, it's not comparable with you finding a new handbag.

It's the equivalent of you finding an identical handbag in his car. Wouldn't that make you wonder?

If the OP and her husband have agreed not to buy ANYTHING for Christmas for each other, why the hell would he buy something as a surprise that she already has?

chocolateyclur · 30/11/2011 20:00

I'm intrigued!

ImperialBlether · 30/11/2011 20:01

He won't have bought it for someone at work (ie someone who couldn't use their own card.) He had it delivered to his work address, so he would have handed it over there. It's also the sort of thing you'd mention, isn't it, ie "Oh X gave me £90 cash and asked me to buy him a Kindle on Amazon as a surprise for his wife."

ImperialBlether · 30/11/2011 20:02

Ruby, you are lucky that would be your reaction.

Marking place. Please let us know.

ViviPru · 30/11/2011 20:03

Its going to be a really boring obvious explanation that has most of us wondering why it didn't cross our minds and the odd one or two claiming they knew it all along.

TeaOneSugarPlumFairy · 30/11/2011 20:07

Not sure why it's that different, I already have handbags, and I already knew what DH was getting me for Christmas, it was an extra surprise present.

TeaOneSugarPlumFairy · 30/11/2011 20:07

I'm sure there will be a perfectly reasonable explanation.

kindlefinder · 30/11/2011 20:09

I'm back!

Not in tears - but a bit annoyed.

Apparently its for his Dad. It was his birthday about 3 weeks ago and despite the fact that we bought him 2 books (!!) and a cashmere jumper and took a bottle of moet around (which was being saved for Christmas) AND bought the birthday cake, DH apparently felt the need to buy another gift.

This is vaguely credible since DH worships the ground his father walks on. Its is also credible that he wouldn't mention this to me since he knows that I feel that we have already spent too much money on his Dad's birthday given the current financial situation.

So mystery over. I am no longer worried about intellectual mistress and now just grumpy at DH buying another expensive gift without discussing it with me.

Phew - thanks for the support and keeping me gigging rather than crying ladies!

I'm not surprised you're annoyed, DH's dad gets a box of continentals for his birthday.

hippoCritt · 30/11/2011 20:11

I was worried he had killed you and put you in the boot (note to self to stop reading scary books on my kindle)
Sorry it still sounds like a stressful situation for you

MissMogwi · 30/11/2011 20:14

It's better than the Kindle being for his whore Grin but I'd still be pissed off at him spending and keeping it secret.

IslaValargeone · 30/11/2011 20:15

Not surprised you are annoyed, I think your gifts for his dad were hugely generous without buying something else too.

PontyMython · 30/11/2011 20:17

Well could've been worse but I'm not surprised you are still annoyed!

MeconiumHappens · 30/11/2011 20:17

why would you buy your dad a present which is three weeks late and then keep it in the boot of your car Hmm

fedupofnamechanging · 30/11/2011 20:18

I would make him return the kindle - it's not on to do this behind your back when money is tight.

I would still be checking his card statements, just to be sure he's not buying anything else on the quiet, if nothing else.

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 30/11/2011 20:19

Ah, there's LineRunner's gut being right again.

Except in my own RL of course. Smile

MissMerrynder · 30/11/2011 20:20

Meconium Maybe they had trouble supplying to demand so close to Christmas?

Also, us Coke addicts keep it in the car so it stays cold, and the amount we have to buy (sob) means there's not much room in the house for it!

OP, glad there's a reasonable (ish) explanation!
