To be suspicious about a kindle??

kindlefinder · 30/11/2011 15:13

I have just discovered a new kindle in DH's car boot hidden under a pile of work stuff. Obviously only recently ordered. Presumably a present.

I have one. DSs are little.

AIBU to be suspicious and start wondering who he can have bought it for. Have I been on mumsnet for too long!?!

You just wait MrsHankey we could suddenly find that an evil genius is going to use insider information about our reading preferences to take over the world!

ask him. See if he looks to the left when replying (sign of thinking of something to say)

My Dad lent me a copy of Watership Down when I was nearly 11. When I was 13 I recognised the very same copy in his new partners book shelf. He had lent me the OW's book whilst a year away from leaving my Mum. Still gobsmacked about that.

SnapesMistress · 30/11/2011 15:35

I'd ask him, it should be obvious if he lies. Most people are not good at being put on the spot.

Xales · 30/11/2011 15:38

If he has bought it for himself when you are pinching pennies due to threat of redundancy and are not buying for each other that is a bit naughty/unfair of him.

I would take it out and hide it somewhere, see what happened Grin

BlueCat2010 · 30/11/2011 15:46

Could he be looking after it on behalf of a work colleague who wants to suprise their nosy and untrusting wife?

HipHopOpotomus · 30/11/2011 15:47

Could he be looking after it on behalf of a work colleague
Do people really do this? And if so why hide it?

I thought it was just an excuse used by teenagers re their drugs, condoms, shoplifted items etc Grin

BlueCat2010 · 30/11/2011 15:49

I have done it for a colleague in the past, which is why I suggested it. It's no different to my FIL keeping the kids presents safe from prying eyes!

valiumredhead · 30/11/2011 15:51

In my world dh would come home from work and I would say 'Oi Mr Redhead, what's the Kindle doing in your car?'

Clearly you live in a different world to me Grin

HazleNutt · 30/11/2011 15:51

well if you ask him and it really is upgrade for you, you'll ruin the surprise. Wait til xmas, if you don't get it, then ask.

picnicbasketcase · 30/11/2011 15:54

Ugh. That plan smacks of Love Actually and the ugly gold thing.

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 30/11/2011 15:55

How in the name of all that's demented is the OP expected to wait with her suspicions till Christmas?

valiumredhead · 30/11/2011 15:55

NO! Don't wait to Xmas!

picnicbasketcase · 30/11/2011 15:57

You don't want to be dressing the children up as lobsters and quietly sobbing into sleeve listening to Joni Mitchell. Even though I'm sure it's perfectly innocent anyway.

MrsHankey · 30/11/2011 15:59

Good idea Xales Grin

WoTmania · 30/11/2011 16:00

I thoguht you meant about kindles generally
Maybe it's for you - DH alwyas does this when I've said 'no presents' drives me nuts even thoguh it doesn't bother him that I haven't got him anything. Or could it be for him and he doesn't want to admit it?

Kayzr · 30/11/2011 16:00

Just ask him.

WoTmania · 30/11/2011 16:01

oh do what Xales said and the update with his reaction. Nothing worse than this type of thread without finding out what happens in the end.

HazleNutt · 30/11/2011 16:02

I would assume he got me a present anyway - there have been several topics here where "no presents" were agreed and women pissed off that they actually didn't get one.

Aworryingtrend · 30/11/2011 16:06

Just ask him when he gets home. I would ask face-to-face if you are suspicious as you will be able to tell by his reaction.

AWimbaWay · 30/11/2011 16:21

I agree with just asking. I found a new camera behind the sofa a few weeks ago, didn't think twice about just asking dh where it had appeared from. He was a bit miffed as apparently it had been there for all of five seconds before I spotted it, eyes like a hawk.

GiserableMitt · 30/11/2011 16:21

So how would he hide it if he's actually bought it for himself? Wrap it in a magazine whilst reading in bed? :o

kindlefinder · 30/11/2011 16:22

At least I've had a love actually chuckle now. I might dress the children up as lobsters when I ask and see if he gets the reference... "I've looked at love from both sides now...."

I am going to feel really crap if its for me.

And if its not... I'm not sure that I want to know.........................

kindlefinder · 30/11/2011 16:25

A further chuckle Giserable Grin
