by 'you all' I mean anyone who shops in the high street store in which i work. which is probably quite a few of you. If you pick something up from a rail in the shop, DON'T DRAPE IT OVER THE RAIL INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT BACK WHERE YOU GOT IT. if you insist on trying on the full allocation of garments, don't you dare hand me a big crumpled pile of fabric and a fistful of hangers and expect me to rehang it for you. YOU HAVE HANDS. If you bring things to the cash desk inside out, don't tut and give me dirty looks when I scan and fold them inside out. and do not dump a pile of clothes on the cash desk, and as I pick up each item to scan, say "hmm I don't want that one actually", leaving it for me to rehang and retag and put back on the shop floor.

Often I pick things up off the floor and DRAPE IT OVER THE RAIL. I usually note shop assistants nearby gossiping and "not noticing" clothing on the floor.

You sound disproportionately angry tbh.

Sometimes when I hand an item back to the assistant it is because I have found it impossible to rehang (and in some cases to try on in the first place). Sometimes this is because the buttonholes are too small/tight, or there are those ridiculously long hanging loops, or someone (like you or one of your colleagues) has put the security tag in a place which makes it impossible to try the garment on.

Misschief101 · 09/11/2011 21:33

YABU It is your job. If you don't like it find another job where you don't have to deal with customers.

dearprudence · 09/11/2011 21:33

Where do you work?

letmehelp · 09/11/2011 21:34

It's not something I've ever done, and I'm sure it's annoying, but what would you be doing otherwise? Don't you work an allotted number of hours, so if you spent less time sorting out other people's mess, you'd serve more customers? Or would the shop need fewer staff? Shock

Catsdontcare · 09/11/2011 21:34

Well lazy bitch's atleast keep you in a job I guess. I've worked in retail tis just how it is. Now letting you kid take a shit in the floor display playhouse IS in my opinion a fucking liberty.

spiderpig8 · 09/11/2011 21:34

Yeah. You know that thing about how people from other countries are always amazed at how crap British service is? It's this attitude they're talking about.

There is a tiny part of me that kind of loves this attitude - the 'how dare you enter my shop and pay my wages, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out, and DON'T try and give me money or I'll be genuinely insulted' feel of so many British shops. But it is a bit weird.

I don't mind if someone hands me something and says 'sorry I can't quite work this out' or is kind enough to pick something off the floor and drape it on a rail; i DO mind the people who drop clothes on the floor and people who vacantly shove a pile of clothes in my direction without even glancing at me

OP posts:
EmmaBemma · 09/11/2011 21:36

I'm sometimes guilty of the first offence, but only when the clothes are packed so tightly on the rails that it's hard to get the hanger back on properly. Also I can't be the only one that has had to spend several minutes picking up and rehanging other clothes that have been pushed off their hangers by me trying to get the first hanger back on the rail, and then having to repeat when I try to get them back on the rail, and so on. And, to be fair, OP, hanging clothes is part of your job, not mine.

But the others are all pretty rude: if I'm trying stuff on I'll hand it back on the hangers, and I'd only ever take something to the till if I was sure I wanted to buy it. And I wouldn't care in the slightest if something was folded inside out. So on balance, YANBU! And sorry you had a shitty day.

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:36

Fine...but only if you stop cramming the rails so tight that if I so much as brush past it an item, it springs off and lands on the floor.
Also, can items be hung so that if I pick up the sleeve to feel the fabric, the damn thing doesn't slip right off the hanger and crumple to the ground. That's annoying as fuck. Ta!

somedayma · 09/11/2011 21:37

Someone did take a shit in the fitting room :(. And left a v used tampon in another one. People need to get BASIC manners. And I don't give a shit if you're paying for my service, I expect courtesy
