by 'you all' I mean anyone who shops in the high street store in which i work. which is probably quite a few of you. If you pick something up from a rail in the shop, DON'T DRAPE IT OVER THE RAIL INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT BACK WHERE YOU GOT IT. if you insist on trying on the full allocation of garments, don't you dare hand me a big crumpled pile of fabric and a fistful of hangers and expect me to rehang it for you. YOU HAVE HANDS. If you bring things to the cash desk inside out, don't tut and give me dirty looks when I scan and fold them inside out. and do not dump a pile of clothes on the cash desk, and as I pick up each item to scan, say "hmm I don't want that one actually", leaving it for me to rehang and retag and put back on the shop floor.

a) I object to the term 'lazy b**tch'
b) Perhaps if your shop was properly set out and easy to get about and racks weren't overcrowded we would take a hint from the way the shop is run ...

Monkey see, monkey do

JosieRosie · 09/11/2011 21:38

Shock at all the arsey ' well it is your job' comments on here! I would be the first to say customer service in this country is by and large utter shite but surely there is room for a bit of decency on the part of the customer???

SoupDragon · 09/11/2011 21:39

Actually it is your job. Stop whining.

ElaineReese · 09/11/2011 21:39

YANBU.

Yes, it is your job - but it would be common decency on the part of others not to knowingly make it more difficult and treat you like some kind of serf.

As if the person who attends the changing roooms gets to dictate store design policy on polyester, for heaven's sake! Just be NICE!

wigglesrock · 09/11/2011 21:39

Oh and can you make sure you put the right size of garment on the corresponding hanger, thanks.

coastgirl · 09/11/2011 21:40

joanofarchitrave (great name) - I agree. DH and I were in a Subway (I know!) the other day. It's a teeny tiny shop and there were two members of staff there. We were the only customers. All the displays - racks of crisps, drinks in the fridge, everything - were a total mess. Before we came in they had both been standing around chatting behind the counter, so it wasn't like they'd just been rushed off their feet for hours, it would have taken two minutes to tidy it up.

In my experience of the US and Canada, that shop would have been immaculate and those staff would have taken a pride in having everything neat and tidy. It was smaller than my kitchen so they could have tidied and chatted, if they'd wanted to. It just seemed like they couldn't have cared less.

somedayma · 09/11/2011 21:40

I happen to agree with over packed rails ;). I think it's more the utter bloody rudeness of people. I can't stand the thoughtlessness. If I'm clearly in a flustered trying to sort out a million things at once, why is it ok to hand me a bunch of wrinkled unbuttoned shirts when you could hang them easily yourself?

I think the OP is the reason I shop online.

tooearlymustdache · 09/11/2011 21:41

this would never happen in Waitrose, not even the ones with John Lewis Home depts in Grin

tethersend · 09/11/2011 21:42

Cuntstomers.

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:42

Err...because it's your job to hang them?

I always rehang clothes, but I'm nice....the fact is, I don't have to - that's what you get paid for.

worraliberty · 09/11/2011 21:42

Oh I hate those stupid hangers with the springy clips on them

I give it 2 goes and if it doesn't work, I drape it over the rail.

I'm buggered if I'm going to go in search of a bored shop assistant and beg her to stick it back on the stupid springy clip.

Bollocks to it Grin

ivykaty44 · 09/11/2011 21:42

Someone did take a shit in the fitting room . And left a v used tampon in another one

and your worried about how people hand you the clothes and start a thread about how people hand you the clothes or drop clothes on the floor - bizzare when there is the above which really is disgusting...

somedayma · 09/11/2011 21:42

I can see I'm going to get along great with some of you :). Others not so much. I don't design the floor obviously :s. I'm just a hired monkey here to serve the public's every selfish whim, right?

ElaineReese · 09/11/2011 21:43

Why the hell shouldn't she mouth off on MN about it?

Yes we have all seen less than great service in shops (Top Shop are crap for this I find), but jesus, as one human being in the proximity of another why would you just knowingly be ill-mannered enough to knowingly make someone's life more difficult? It's just sending the message that you think they are 'worse' than you and it's needless and, I would say, rather ill-bred.

Just be NICE.

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:43

Agree. 2 goes, then over the rail it goes. Fuck it.

531800000008 · 09/11/2011 21:44

You have a JL Home bit in your Waitrose? Envy

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 09/11/2011 21:44

Where the hell do you work OP for someone to think that they could shit in the fitting room? Shock

Itsjustafleshwound · 09/11/2011 21:45

I think you need to rethink the job you do.

Flanelle · 09/11/2011 21:45

A bit yes. Or do something else?

JosieRosie · 09/11/2011 21:47

Agree with Elaine - just be nice FFS! Some of you are being bloody rotten to the OP - she's only having a (justified) moan about rude condescending behaviour from members of the public with no manners! Christ, do none of you sound off about work ever? Hmm
