by 'you all' I mean anyone who shops in the high street store in which i work. which is probably quite a few of you. If you pick something up from a rail in the shop, DON'T DRAPE IT OVER THE RAIL INSTEAD OF PUTTING IT BACK WHERE YOU GOT IT. if you insist on trying on the full allocation of garments, don't you dare hand me a big crumpled pile of fabric and a fistful of hangers and expect me to rehang it for you. YOU HAVE HANDS. If you bring things to the cash desk inside out, don't tut and give me dirty looks when I scan and fold them inside out. and do not dump a pile of clothes on the cash desk, and as I pick up each item to scan, say "hmm I don't want that one actually", leaving it for me to rehang and retag and put back on the shop floor.

I am always polite to people. Always. I say please and thank you. I don't drop clothes on the floor, that would be rude.

When i take my items to to till if the person serving me cant stop talking to their mate or look at me I may become a little bit rude.

If that person then doesn't tell me the total but just expects me to put my card in the slot I may get even more rude.

I find the staff at boot sales much more customer focused.

Serenitysutton · 09/11/2011 21:48

Really? I got told off by some stupid bitch in primark once because I forgot to get my number of items tag- she Made me interupt the new person who was changing there to get it otherwise she said she was calling the police- it's one of those things I deeply regret, I shouldve called her bluff, tosser.

In fairness there wouldn't be a need for as many staff if everyone self served and tidied the shop after themselves would there?

qo · 09/11/2011 21:48

How dare the prole expect common courtesy!!

ElaineReese · 09/11/2011 21:49

Oh yes - rethink your job! In a recession and all that.

When I worked in a pub/restaurant a few years ago, I was quite happy to run around after people and do everything the job entails, and I liked it. Doesn't mean I didn't get annoyed with people who got arsey at closing time, or moved tables without telling me, or asked for daft things.

That's what having a job is like - you get irritated with stuff. It is allowed.

somedayma · 09/11/2011 21:49

I try my best to be helpful and friendly and considerate to customers and it just sucks that people don't give a shit. At all. I do generally enjoy my job tbh. Not that you'd think it from this! I just hate inconsiderate selfish people in all areas of life!

Idk why that person shat on the floor, I'd rather not think about it

here we go again. Another thread where posters justify their excruciating rudeness towards people with less money than them....

Genuinely, truly sorry. I am really not being facetious but I thought it was okay to hand over the clothes and the hangers to the assistant. Like leaving my stuff on the table in restaurants/cafes that don't have obvious bins and a clear self clearing policy. Blush

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:52

Somedayma - I have worked in a clothes shop too...popular high street chain, so I do hear you.
However, it isn't up to the public to rehang clothes. It's great when they do (oh yes) but they don't have to. That's what you and I are for.

TuftyFinch · 09/11/2011 21:52

I had s hit day at work too. I sat in the first class section of the train all the way back to my station. I had a second class ticket. I am so fucking outrageous sometimes.

crazynanna · 09/11/2011 21:52

Grin at cuntstomers

NotnOtter · 09/11/2011 21:52

you sound lazy op- it's your job - do it

SuePurblybilt · 09/11/2011 21:52

I very much doubt she has less money than me Grin. Church mice are like Alan Sugar to me.

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:52

Familtdilemma - you're right actually. It is.

Familydilemma · 09/11/2011 21:53

Often, I do rehang, but I really thought that was me being good, not the expected norm.

crazynanna · 09/11/2011 21:53

No,I got offended by lazy bitch as I sleep all fucking day Wink

Familydilemma · 09/11/2011 21:54

Thank you Pictish. I was starting to question my manners and understanding of shopping etiquette. Smile

pictish · 09/11/2011 21:54

It isn't the expected norm.
The shop staff are there to do it for you.

Sorry was being facetious earlier (bad habit) and I totally disagree with people using changing rooms as a toilet, of course that is unconscionable behaviour.

However, ultimately hanging stuff up is a pretty key part of working in a clothing retailer. It just is. If you worked in a shoe retailer you'd have to get used to the smell of people's cheesy feet or in a health food shop the overwhelming scent of patchouli and flatulence (been there).

Most customers are just normal people, often balancing bags and children, we are not, in the majority, lazy bitches. To say different is to create a negative dynamic that will infest your working life.

ElaineReese · 09/11/2011 21:55

OP very clearly explained: by 'you all' I mean anyone who shops in the high street store in which i work.

At the end of a long day, you are allowed to think that the people who've made it harder and treated you like crap are bitches. She can sound off if she wants to.

And rather than think 'I shall leave stuff where I like, it is someone's job to tidy it', I feel a bit sorry about times I have left stuff messily and I will try to bear in mind more often that it's not a nice thing to do.

Although only once the cashiers have implemented a policy I like about polyester, obviously.

NiceShoes · 09/11/2011 21:55

You really need an attitude and career change, you are angry and dissatisfied. If you don't like your job change it,or suck it up until something else come up for you. It does seem you are worked up too much about some mundane repetitive tasks.
