To think that people who wear Hunter wellies are big knobbers...

...if it's in an urban area and it's not raining?

Why not just stick eight tenners to your forehead or a note saying 'I can afford £80 for a pair of wellies' and be done with it?

Envy?

cheekeymonkey · 07/11/2011 14:04

knobbers

Olderyetwilder · 07/11/2011 14:05

i agree OP, people should carry changes of footwear and use according to the situation they are in At That Very Moment

*tsk

runningwilde · 07/11/2011 14:06

I don't hav any but I think some of them look nice. It does put me off when I see people like colleen rooney wear them to festivals with little shorts and big socks and in their 'I'm so cool and hip' poses

Proudnscary · 07/11/2011 14:06

rips - I am fortunate on the financial side of life, so am not jeal

Nothing to show off about unfortunately, they smell of horse wee. They are so warm and dry and grippy though.

giveitago · 07/11/2011 14:07

or if you get them so cheap of ebay (as you can't get out to go shopping) and live in an urban area but take your kid to a muddy place for some event. Is that OK?

I then also assume you mean people with 4x4 in urban areas and great big travel systems that cost £1k. All that stuff?

PumpkinBones · 07/11/2011 14:08

YANBU. I know I shouldn't, but I do secretly think "twat" when I see people in them at festivals. It's a bit like UGGS for me, I do think you are paying for the name, with nothing else to justify the expense. Of course, it's up to other people what they spend their money on though :)

DaydreamDolly · 07/11/2011 14:09

YABU to notice this stuff.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 07/11/2011 14:10

YABU. I have Hunter wellies for my urban gardening and they didn't cost £80.

TheCountessRoyalofBlood · 07/11/2011 14:11

I can honestly say they ain't ever going on my feet as they don't fit on my legs (too fat!) however these or similar I could really do with for going outside and getting the dog!!

IndieSkies · 07/11/2011 14:11

I have a pair that I have worn for over 20 years - rugged, comfortable, can walk long distances in them etc, as opposed to cheaper pairs in which the seams split, they don't grip so well, flap about at the top.
But mostly people just trot along for 200m on a pavement in them, so definitley an expensive fashion item rather than functional need.

Proudnscary please stop going on about all your money love.

Uggs are my bug bear. They make folk look like smurfs. The cheap ones really though, where people who should possibly need orthopaedic intervention (ie walk on the sides of the uggs) look like they are shuffling along. Which also they team with those Primark leggings that they are unaware you can see straight through.

MistyMountainHop · 07/11/2011 14:14

how about people who buuy their dc aged 2 and 5 hunter wellies?? Blush

:o

HelloShitty · 07/11/2011 14:15

We were in a city centre park yesterday. The other mum in there was wearing Hunters, a tweed gilet and a friggin matching flat cap. She was only about 20 and I'd bet anything she lived in the tower block opposite. I don't have anything against good wellies, but it was a beautiful sunny day.

lolaflores · 07/11/2011 14:17

helloshitty was she loading up the horse and cart?

Proudnscary · 07/11/2011 14:18

Wasn't aware I was 'going on about all my money'? Weird.

Misty - well that's even sillier, won't last more than a month then what, eh, eh??

Helloshitty (smashing name btw) - gosh that is taking it to a whole new level.

My DDad used to call people knobbers. I haven't heard that in years Grin

Fillybuster · 07/11/2011 14:19

Its weather and location dependant, methinks.

I do think "fashion victim/oh how sad" when I see them striding along (for example) Oxford Street, on a hot sunny day in the middle of August in their wellies....

...although I couldn't care less which brand they are wearing at that point.

But in a field, at a festival, on a weekend in the country, etc etc? Why would I care?

MistyMountainHop · 07/11/2011 14:20

Misty - well that's even sillier, won't last more than a month then what, eh, eh??

Blush exactly what DH said!

susiedaisy · 07/11/2011 14:21

They are an absolute must at the big horse shows even for those that go straight to the beer tent and wouldn't know a horse from a donkeyGrin

Grinchywoo · 07/11/2011 14:26

I love them, I love my Joules wellies more (I live in the countryside btw)

But, that farmer look is the fashion at the moment, all gilets, tweed jackets and hunter wellies
