To think that people who wear Hunter wellies are big knobbers...

...if it's in an urban area and it's not raining?

Why not just stick eight tenners to your forehead or a note saying 'I can afford £80 for a pair of wellies' and be done with it?

I am a knobber but mine were only £40 and they are purple which makes me an even bigger knobber.
I bought them for Glastonbury but it was a hot one but they have survived two harsh winters and kept me warm and dry. Grippy on ice too!

toptramp · 07/11/2011 19:46

I live in the country and everyone has them at horse shows etc.

EssentialFattyAcid · 07/11/2011 19:47

They are better than stinky dirty UGGS

EssentialFattyAcid · 07/11/2011 19:47

AND cheaper too

DrNortherner · 07/11/2011 19:50

I have a green pair of Dunlop wellies for dog walking that cost £8.99. I have long coveted a shiny pair of red Hunters, and whilst in Edinburgh recently is swanky Jenners Dept store I thought I would treat myself to a pair. As a dog owner my wellies get a lot of wear so I thought it would be economical.

I tried a pair on and, I was expecting to feel like my feet were cocooned in £90 worth of loveliness, all comfy, and stylish and warm. They didn't. They felt exactly like they do in my £8.99 Dunnies......so I didn't buy them, couldn't bring myself to part with the wonga.

A mate of mine went to NYC recently and said they were all the range with the fashionistas, worn with overknee socks and denim hotpants.

DrNortherner · 07/11/2011 19:51

Hunters are the rage in NYC, not Dunlops, just to avoid any embarrassment if any of you get off a plane at JFK in your green Dunlops wondering why folk are sniggering.....

Saffron · 07/11/2011 19:53

When dd's feet stopped growing we brought her some hunteress' I don't care what anyone thinks, she wasn't going to be able to get out of walking the dog!!! Grin

smartyparts · 07/11/2011 19:54

I am a Hunter wearing knobber, but in my defense, I only wear them to walk the dogs and only when it's boggy underfoot. (Which is almost always here).

In fact, I am a double knobber as I have these welly socks to go under the boots.

I have lovely black Hunters with red trim. Well they would be lovely if they had not been a little bleached out with horse pee. I also have Le Chameau wellies which cost far more than the Hunters. They are worth every penny though. My feet were warm and dry all last winter. I am a big nobber then.

I have two beautiful pairs of Irregular Choice shoes. One bright red suede pair with a flower on the front and an emerald green pair with a glitter frog brooch. Neither of them are any use in a muddy field or stable though.

MadameOvary · 07/11/2011 19:58

The welly socks are acrylic and polyester...how is that anything other than sweaty and stinky (and bobbly) Confused
Has anyone tried putting a sheepskin insole in their Hunters? I have hefty calves so thick socks are not an option.

Whizkidwithacrazystreak · 07/11/2011 19:58

I'm agree with the Ugg Boots being the biggest disaster in the common footwear stakes. Dreadful things and I'm an Australian who never sees Aussie wearing them outside their own homes!

Hunters are fine, and I have put mine on on non rainy days (but damp ground) as they were easily accessible and easy to put on in a rush. They are comfortable.

Proudnscary · 07/11/2011 20:00

Whiz you are wrong - Crocs are the biggest disaster in the common footwear arena.

I live in the country and hunters are rare. buckbootz are more common. muckboots (mentioned earlier on) too. and if you go to an event or show of any sort this things are 'kin everywhere

Proudnscary · 07/11/2011 20:03

Smarty - I do hope I have made the point several times that the wearing of said boots is acceptable in rainy or indeed boggy conditions. Not for a trip to Waitrose on a sunny day in London.

I must be a knobber then as I have a pair,I do live in the country but these were the only ones I could find cheap that were neoprene lined, still they look authentic as they are always mud covered but I do wear them when I go into a town & need to stop off & walk the dog somewhere

muckboots are popular too or dubarrys, but my bank account says noooooo to them

SleepyFergus · 07/11/2011 20:07

Well I have a pair of Hunter wellies and they cost me nowt as my brother temped for them for a few months. He also managed to get my DH and my folks a pair gratis.

So that makes us all knobbers eh? Ah well, knobbers with dry feet and nice wellies.

oldraver · 07/11/2011 20:08

Oh Redpanda I covet Irregular Choice (after someone on MN posted a link) I could happily just have a pair on display to drool over

DrNortherner · 07/11/2011 20:15

These Buckbootz are they warm?

ledkr · 07/11/2011 20:28

My irregular choices are on display in my room. Now that makes me a massive knobber Grin

redpanda13 · 07/11/2011 20:29

oldraver- mine would be better on display. I can't really wear heels as I have flat feet and orthotic insoles. A true nobber is spending all that money on unwearable shoes!

Hatwoman · 07/11/2011 21:40

northerner - don;t know if they're warm or not - dh has some but I have cheap dunlops. I also have a pair of wellies on display. dd's first ones, winnie the pooh and tigger.

Hatwoman · 07/11/2011 21:43

ah yes it was the dubarry ones that I was looking for when I said about shows etc. so ignorant I didn't know what make they are. they truly are thing to wear. I lost count of the number of mother-daughter pairs wearing dubarry boots, jeans and polo shirts. everywhere.

Hatwoman · 07/11/2011 21:44

just seen the price Shock

Merlotmonster · 07/11/2011 21:48

I love my Dubarrys...had them years..ridden in them, mucked out in them, walked miles..never rubbed or worn out... ..love the guy that sells them at the horse shows...plus you get a free glass of champagne! happy days
