...if it's in an urban area and it's not raining?

Why not just stick eight tenners to your forehead or a note saying 'I can afford £80 for a pair of wellies' and be done with it?

What a timeously apposite post Op...considering my begging polite e-mail to Hunter HQ earlier this evening to let them know my quite frankly GORGEOUS Regent Savoy Hunters had split, was a Martin Lewis masterclass. Hope I get a spanking new pair in return.

I have been 'rubber-necked' - (from the knee down) by people trying to grab a second look at those beauties. Strange but true.

and it rains a lot here, a lot, a hell of a lot.

I also have a gifted pair of Lime green ones, more trad. but not half as fabulous as my every day wear, now leaky 'quilted rubber', (sounds like an oxymoron - but really quite marvellous), ones.

They're only wellies...Smile

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 07/11/2011 22:24

Hunters have gone the same way as Burberry check. A status symbol for chavvy types in my area! They are over priced. They are just wellies. There is nothing special about them.

boglach · 07/11/2011 22:24

I bought a cheep pair of wellies from Dobbies and they barely lasted one winter

Now I live in rural Scotland where it rains or snows a significant proportion of the time. I am no fashion snob, happy to pick up clothes in charity shops etc. But I do believe with footwear, sometimes you get what you pay for.

In anticipation of another wet, harsh winter I treated myself to Hunters in the hope they might last more than one winter. So far I am very pleased with them but time will tell

Housewifefromheaven · 07/11/2011 22:36

proud Waitrose. Only when it's raining though :)

farrowandballs · 07/11/2011 23:04

This thread has massively sent me under. I live in the country and don't drive so I wear my hunter wellies all day every day. A couple of weeks ago I went to London with the family and forgot to change my shoes or pack any clothes or shoes for myself. Ended up walking around a blazing hot city for 5 days in totally inappropriate footwear feeling like a prize bellend. DH reassured me no one would notice. But you all bloody did didn't you...

SuePurblybilt · 07/11/2011 23:15

made the front page of the Standard farrow Grin

Nevertooearlyforcake · 07/11/2011 23:25

I drove passed the hunter factory shop for years on the way to visit my parents and never once got the t

golemmings · 07/11/2011 23:26

how about those of us who bought them a decade ago when they were the only people to make adult size 3 wellies ie wellies that anyone over the age of 8 can get their calves into?

I'm not proud of them, but they do fit and keep my feet dry.

yabu.

SuePurblybilt · 07/11/2011 23:28

Didn't Auntie Label go to the Hunter factory, with Pippin?

I had huntress wellies for that same reason golemmings, back pre-pg when I had small delicate feet. Nothing else would fit adult chunky horse-riding calves and trousers stuffed in, in smaller sizes.

Nevertooearlyforcake · 07/11/2011 23:35

Oops... never got the time right to visit the factory shop when driving passed (Friday and Sunday night). Was a bit Sad when production got moved to somewhere in eastern Europe. Was an amazingly crappy looking building ( and last time I went passed was a cleared site). I like them but where I grew up only the posh people with the estates wore them, every man over 50 wore flat caps through. It was proper rural!

Nevertooearlyforcake · 07/11/2011 23:39

But I really really don't understand those ones with the bow,or those ones with the tweedy bit on the calf part. Don't they just look phenomenally shit when it rains? Or am I missing the point...

soupforthesoul · 07/11/2011 23:54

Hunters are really bad for splitting along the sole and the front part perishes quickly. I have had a couple of pairs and think they are crap.

tigercametotea · 08/11/2011 00:02

I was considering getting a pair because I hate my Next wellies..

Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 06:46

Farrowandballs - sorry mate, but at least you'll know next time, eh?

Housewife - at Waitrose. At me spelling 'where' wrong up the thread.

Look all, I am actually considering buying ankle-height Hunters as I will be spending an awful lot of my weekends in muddy fields this winter (football). I know, I know, but it is within my rules as they would be used for the purpose they are intended. There again, I might stick with the green ones I bought at a festival years ago for £10. Yes, I think I'll just do that.

I agree Hunter's have gone a bit, ahem, Burberry, in some areas.

DrNortherner · 08/11/2011 08:15

proud ime wellies are NOT enough for football spectating. Your feet will freeze.

Whatmeworry · 08/11/2011 09:00

Hunter Wellies are an indicator, but if they have a Barbour jacket as well you know where you are...

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 08/11/2011 09:07

Proud you need 'the Muck Boot Company' wellies for standing about or anything else for that matter. The keep your feet warm well down below freezing. The are lined with neoprene. Bloody marvellous, and cost less than hunters too!
Tiger well if you will buy wellies from a high street clothing chain, what do you expect! Get the down to mountain warehouse, or your nearest tack shop!

Thehusbandsatcricketagain · 08/11/2011 10:00

saggy my hunters are neoprene lined & were far less than some pay for them, got mine after major trawl through the tinternet over a year ago for less than 70squid & they have been used virtually daily & no signs of this splitting.Dh regular hunters came from amazon & cost less than 40quid.

& oh god I know some will think me mad but have also bought ds some as he just wears dunlops out far too quick & the kids ones are a tenner a pair.I will point out though that I bought them from work whilst they were on offer & used my staff discount so really I was saving money :o

Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 10:39

How much do Muck Boot Co's cost Saggy?

DrNotherner - what would you suggest? Is it all in the socks?

OP posts:
Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 08/11/2011 10:43

Mine were about £60 I think. More than I've ever spent on shoes ever, but worth every penny!

Hatwoman · 08/11/2011 11:09

this thread is making me want new wellies. my dunlops are perfectly functional, if a little cold. I live in the country and wellies are essential but have an aversion to buying new things unless old ones have worn out. I need to sabotage my dunlops.

farrow - if you;re a country girl I think you would have got away with your london trip. As pointed out by OP if you wear wellies for "fashion" in the city you look ridiculous - there's always something very "try-hard" about the overall look. I'm guessing you did actually look like someone who'd forgotten her shoes. which is a far less knobbey look.

malinois · 08/11/2011 11:15

Modern Hunters are crap. They're made in China on the cheap and it shows. They're just trading on the name.

Dunlops every time.

tigercametotea · 08/11/2011 11:15

Okay Saggy, I'll defo have a look at the Muck Boot Co wellies, they sound good. My Next wellies are not comfy.
