...if it's in an urban area and it's not raining?

Why not just stick eight tenners to your forehead or a note saying 'I can afford £80 for a pair of wellies' and be done with it?

Well put, Hatwoman.

Can I just say I just saw a woman in our lobby at work wearing black hunters with her jeans and trendy poncho ensemble this very morning!

I very nearly burst out laughing after this thread but I reminded myself I am a professional woman of 41 years old so regained my composure.

Speaking as someone who until very recently worked for somewhere that sells them...

They used to be great, really good quality and would last for years. Nowadays they are awful. So appallingly bad that roughly half of the boots sold were returned due to splitting and leaking. Joules are almost as bad, boots returned to the shop every single week. I don't understand why anyone buys them, yes they do patterns and different colours but the reason to have wellies is to keep your feet dry. They. Do. Not. Do. That

I also have some Mud Ruckers (? I think) for mucking out - they are the warmest, most comfortable things ever. I don't think they were very pricey though but v comfy

happyhacker · 08/11/2011 12:12

The staff were wearing them in the Barbour shop on Piccadilly last week. I felt really, really sorry for them they looked ridiculous Grin

happyhacker · 08/11/2011 12:13

I swear by Aigle wellies, the parcours ones. Fab.

I'm still wearing the 20 quid pair my Aunt bought me from the Army Nvay store 10 yrs ago.

They are much comfier than other wellies.

However I WEAR THEM IN THE MUD, NOT THE FLIPPING SUPERMARKET!

nokissymum · 08/11/2011 12:25

Havent read the whole thread but thought you might like to know hunter wellies at costco at the moment for £58 Grin

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 08/11/2011 15:02

Why buy Muck Boots when you don't have horses? They look exactly like the things we used to muck out in yonks ago - which makes me think 'knobber' anytime I see someone without a pitchfork in their hand

lowra · 08/11/2011 15:37

I have asked DP for a pair for Christmas.

I probably will wear them to a festival or two, and for wet walks with the family. Wouldn't wear them in the city or if it's dry.

Guess that makes me a knobber though hey OP?

Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 15:39

For the millionth time, you are NOT a knobber if you 'wouldn't wear them in the city or if it's dry'

Enjoy your Christmas pressies Grin

Thanks for verifying that I'm not a knobber. Phew I'll sleep tonight Grin

grovel · 08/11/2011 15:50

What's wrong with knobbers anyway? Some of my best friends are knobbers. I think the OP is knobbist.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 08/11/2011 15:56

Oh phew, I can rest easy knowing that I am not a knobber!

Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 15:58

I take great exception to that remark, lowra.

I myself am a big knobber approximately 85% of the time and am cerntainly not prejudiced against knobbers per se. I am, however, not a welly related knobber - there is a BIG difference.

OP posts:
Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 15:58

That was meant for grovel, not lowra (told you I was a knobber)

Hunters definitely not as good as they used to be. I have a pair of pink Joules wellies with little dogs all over them and they are great.

But for serious style and comfort you can't beat a pair of Dublin River Boots, wore mine to work all summer. In winter I switch to Ariat Grassmeres although they aren't the best in the wet - wellies need to live in the car for sloshing around. Serious outdoor work needs something warmer.

I work with horses BTW before anyone pictures me sat at a desk in a pair of pink wellies. Am probably still a knobber though.

Southwestwhippet · 08/11/2011 16:15

Apologies, Ariat BROMONTS with the thermal lining is what I meant

muddysnowballs123 · 08/11/2011 16:30

well, DD has had her hunter wellies for two weeks.Smile also has the wlllie socks to go with them!

We do live in the countryside & everyone round here has a pair of Hunters/Aigle/T&C/Muck Boots/le Chameau etc..

I have to say DD found muck boots too wide for her narrow feet, even with wellie liners!!

I have to agree we are mostly knobbers!!Grin

lowra · 08/11/2011 16:42

OK I'm getting a bit lost now, so who's a knobber and who isn't? Grin

Proudnscary · 08/11/2011 17:56

lowra - Me. Mainly. I think.

Bunnyjo · 08/11/2011 21:47

DD (4yo) and I both own Hunter wellies and wear them daily, BUT we do live in the middle of nowhere and down a great big, mucky lonning. I wouldn't dream of wearing mine in the middle of town, but my daughter does Blush

happyhacker · 09/11/2011 09:00

Muck boots are great if you have GINORMOUS feet

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 09/11/2011 12:31

AND muck out some form of animal (guinea pig/gerbil not included)

Capricorn76 · 09/11/2011 13:40

Please don't judge me for wearing Uggs. They were a gift!
