It makes me cringe and also the word ''courting''

Any words that make you cringe?

dating - wish courting would make a comeback

making love - bleurgh, just say having sex

shag - very rude word when I was young

SardineQueen · 27/08/2011 10:40

Never realised before but yes, frock is a shuddersome word

Fatshionista · 27/08/2011 10:41

Making love.

Slacks (instead of trousers)

Animation · 27/08/2011 10:43

I agree. I don't like frock or maids a courting.

worraliberty · 27/08/2011 10:43

OMG you're so right about 'frock'

It's the most old fashioned gag inducing word that reminds me of pantomime Dames Confused

motherinferior · 27/08/2011 10:49

I like frock but hate 'feminine'. The very act of typing the word makes me want to vomit.

hazeyjane · 27/08/2011 10:50

Frock is right up there with gusset as cringeworthy words.

triskaidekaphile · 27/08/2011 10:50

Frock is a superb word! yabvvvvvvvu

hazeyjane · 27/08/2011 10:51

oh and even worse if the frock is 'pretty' and the gusset is 'moist'

KurriKurri · 27/08/2011 10:52

when I was little, frock was very much in use (1960's), but by the time I had hit my teens, it had become completely cringy - I remember a friend of mine berating her mother for daring to use the word Grin, On the other hand we used words like, grotty, cruddy, gizzardy, etc. which sound extremely dated now.

Slacks makes me think of old men, golf, and polyester.

I would use frock ironically now, as in 'Ooh you've got your posh frock on' said in a comedy voice. Grin

Runlolarun · 27/08/2011 10:53

I love frock, courting and making love. I am not even very old. Maybe I should have been from the 50s

MigratingCoconuts · 27/08/2011 11:00

The word frock always reminds me of my gran (she's the only one I knew who used it as an everyday word) and she would say it in her fab lancashire accent.....

so YABU!!!

perfumedlife · 27/08/2011 11:04

I despise the word Ditsy. Why use that to describe what is usually a pattern on womens clothing? It means stupid and scatterbrained for gods sake. Why would that be a good association to make for 21st century womens clothes? Angry

And cupcake. It's fairy cake, face it.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 27/08/2011 11:04

I like frock and pinny, I don't like trews. My lovely mum tells me often that she's got a new pair of trews.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 27/08/2011 11:05

frock is great when used in the sentence "I look like a pig in a frock".

IslaValargeone · 27/08/2011 11:10

How can you possibly compare gusset and frock Shock frock is fabulous.

ElectricSoftParade · 27/08/2011 11:11

Don't mind frock but cannot tolerate panties

Birdsgottafly · 27/08/2011 11:13

Rip- i had forgotten 'trews', my mum would often go shopping for a new pair of trews or slacks, my nan used to say 'why don't you buy yourself a nice frock instead and some stockings'.

I had Sindy dolls and my nan would make them a new frock every week.

worraliberty · 27/08/2011 11:13

My mate's Mum still calls her husband's socks 'stockings' Shock

I must say it conjours up a strange and unwelcome image in my head Blush

KurriKurri · 27/08/2011 11:14

panties always sound like a porn word. Vile.

perfumedlife it's not cupcake or fairy cake, it's bun. Grin

bamboostalks · 27/08/2011 11:18

But surely fairy cake and cupcake are two very different things.

FetchezLaVache · 27/08/2011 11:25

YANBU I hate the word frock! And slacks for trousers.

deemented · 27/08/2011 11:36

I have an irrational dislike of the words 'shoe' and 'laugh'.

I'm not keen on 'moist' either.
