It makes me cringe and also the word ''courting''

Any words that make you cringe?

Agree with panties horrible, sounds like panting. I also dislike jerkin, luckily I seldom hear it now. One of DDs friends mums used to call cardigans jerkins.

Katisha · 27/08/2011 11:53

Hubby
Rellies

gasman · 27/08/2011 12:02

falling pregnant.

Hate the expression.

Mandy2003 · 27/08/2011 12:08

Pouch.

HumphreyCobbler · 27/08/2011 12:11

frock is an excellent word
'doidy' cup is vile

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 27/08/2011 12:20

WTF is a 'doidy' cup?

Mandy2003 · 27/08/2011 12:22

This - supposedly the best thing to use when moving on from BF!

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/08/2011 12:23

Oh yes, slacks for me too. I hate it.
There's an American writer who's name escapes me at the moment - she writes forensic scientist thriller type books - and the woman wears slacks.
Every time I read her books it annoys me beyond reason.
I'm now getting more annoyed as I can't remember the author's name.
Dr.Kay Scarpetta or something is the forensic scientist, anyone know?
It's going to bug me all day otherwise

Mandy2003 · 27/08/2011 12:25

Patricia Cornwell is the writer!

squeakytoy · 27/08/2011 12:26

playdate

datenight

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/08/2011 12:27

Thank you Mandy Grin

MrsMilton · 27/08/2011 12:30

"She's having his baby" or "I want to have your babies"... stuff like that makes me chew on my hand.

"Making love" utterly cringweworthy.

"Brew" as in, "Do you want a brew?" I hate that.

"Brolly" for umbrella.

And I know this is a bit controversial but.... I don't like the word "kid" unless you're talking abut a baby goat. My friend is always talking about what her "kids" have been doing. It really does set my teeth on edge.

MrsMilton · 27/08/2011 12:32

Oh yes "date night" - yuk yuk. You're going out for a meal with your husband, you silly woman.

Forgot about uni - everyone started saying it a while back didn't they? What started it? I think it might have been Neighbours - didn't they go to Uni?

Thumbwitch · 27/08/2011 12:33

YANBU. I don't like the word "frock".
also:
Slacks
Sneakers
Pumps
Pantyhose
Panties
Sweater
Pants for trousers rather than underpants (goddamn Australia for following the Americans in this!)
Duds
skivvy (still haven't worked out what the hell that is, it seems to be some kind of sweatshirt)

Nonclothes ones:
making love and several variations thereof, although shagging I don't mind.

I don't like the word pregnant. Never have.

There'll be more...

Pan · 27/08/2011 12:34

I love 'frock'. "Best frock time!" is oft heard in Pan-world.

GreenEyesandHam · 27/08/2011 12:35

I like frock.

I hate sweater. It's a jumper, fool.

Mind you, I do say kids and I also say hubby in real life SO BLOODY SHOOT ME. I know better than to use it on here though Grin

Yes I think Uni started being used when the Australian soaps started

microserf · 27/08/2011 12:39

i love the word frock! i also like "defrocked", but that's a slightly different sense.

words i hate: slacks
the word "jazzy" to describe anything but particularly clothing
"jeggings" - fucking utterly ridiculous
"pumps" as I have never been exactly sure what type of shoe they are and am afraid to admit this to anyone. i think only grown ups must wear them

i also completely loathe the word "horny". when the awful rap song came out with it in the chorus, i had to turn the radio off for months.

Pan · 27/08/2011 12:39

am with you on everything else on your 'first list'. Smile

Pumps are small and have rubbery soles and get worn in school gyms. They are NOT high-heeled shoes. They are called something else ( 'heels', or stilettos).

Al0uiseG · 27/08/2011 12:41

I love Frock, I have lots of frocks.

I detest sweater and slacks.

My 14 year old ds wears "chinos" I find that a bit cuntry country club.

HumphreyCobbler · 27/08/2011 12:41

I used to follow a band around called 'Posh Frock and Jukebox'. I loved that band.

tuxedoprincess · 27/08/2011 12:41

panties URGHHH and boobies! used to brighten up dull meetings at work by playing the game where everyone had a word eg gusset or toilet duck etc and had to find a way of saying it in context of the meeting without sniggering, especially funny when the boss was the only one not involved.... look of bewilderment was priceless

DontGoCurly · 27/08/2011 12:45

Wow thought it was just me with 'making love' -does anyone really say that apart from faked problem pages!?

And obviously 'panties'

Role model ...eurgh shut up.

Thumbwitch · 27/08/2011 12:51

MEAL! Hate that word. Urgh.

Frock is ok when linked with posh and that's it.

Ordeal. That word is seriously overused. Drives me mad.

Lifeissweet · 27/08/2011 12:56

microserf - I don't like horny either, but dislike the word randy far more. Just...yuck.

ThePetiteMummy · 27/08/2011 13:00

Agree with you on 'kids' MrsMilton! To add another controversial one, I can't stand the word 'buggy', it's a pram or a pushchair. Where did that word even come from? I think it's just a silly invented word that sounds cutesy for children to say! Grin
